I found this little piece of paradise about 5 years ago as a retirement house. Now, after a complete renovation into separate apartments I am delighted to be able to share its charms with others.
Rose Robson purchased this apartment in 2005
I bought the Ancienne Maison because of its charm and location, central but in a quiet location in the village.
The Ancienne Maison des Gardes has a 500 year old history reflected in the well worn steps trodden through centuries by the local guards. The charming internal courtyard is protected from the Mistral wind and offers a peaceful relaxing space to enjoy barbecues, al fresco dining etc...
Our stay with Rose & Robin in the Studio was well beyond our expectations. The studio was perfect for 2 adults & extremely clean. The pretty courtyard was ideal for breakfasts & when too hot the covered area provided welcome relief from the heat. Rose & Robin were often on hand for useful advice on where to go such as the numerous local villages & their fabulous markets. For more adventurous days, Arles & Marseilles are within easy reach but dont miss the lovely seaside village of Cassis. The village of Lourmarin has everything you need to make a special holiday. Thank you Rose & Robin for a memorable stay hope to return in the future.

Two friends and I spent a week there in April. Two of us stayed in the one bedroom apartment and another friend stayed in the bedroom just above. We had a wonderful time. The apartment is located at the end of a tiny street and is very quiet. The bathroom is on the small side but clean and adequate. The kitchen is very well equipped and we really enjoyed being able to have meals in the little courtyard.
The village of Lourmarin is exquisite and everywhere is walking distance. It's big enough to have everything you need (restaurants, shops, bakeries, grocery shop, weekly market etc etc) and yet not big enough to be crowded. Just perfect. It is probably the best village to stay in in the area. We found surrounding villages very charming as well but some of them are simply just too hilly. Lourmarin also has a nice chateau. Nearby parking on the street was very easy.
I definitely would go there again.
We stayed with Rose and Robin in July of 2009, and had the best time.
First, the hosts perfectly balance the art of being around and available but still providing privacy and space. Rose offered great recommendations for local markets, driving directions, and places to get great meals. The hosts know this area very well. And, they speak English!
Second, Lourmarin is aquintessentially quaint French village. Its the safe small contained village where you would feel safe sending your kids out to fetch some croissants in the morning.
If you are looking in the Luberon, don't look any further. Stay here!
The week my daughter and I spent with Rose and Robin at the Ancienne Maison was the best week of the month we spent traveling in Europe this Spring (and it was an excellent month). We stayed in the newest of their three suites, and it was beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The suite had a full kitchen and living area on the entry level off of the courtyard, and a bedroom, sitting area and bathroom downstairs. The level of service was exactly what we wanted, when we wanted it. Rose and Robin struck the perfect balance between respecting our privacy, and being available for any assistance we required. I celebrated an important birthday while we were there, and they made us feel like family. The location in Lourmarin was also perfect. The rest of our trip was spent in cities, and Lourmarin was the classic French village ... with better food and shopping than you might expect to find. The Chateau also distinguishes Lourmarin from other French villages. We were there before the height of the season, and so did not experience the live music presented there. However, having toured the Chateau, I know it would be a wonderful venue. The market on Friday was also extraordinary. I hope to return to Lourmarin, and the Ancienne Maison, soon ... and often.
My wife and I just returned from a lovely weekend at Rose and Robin's place in Lourmarin. The guesthouse was exactly as described, and clean, comfortable and very Provencal. It is located right in the middle of the old part of Lourmarin, and the village itself is quite a gem, with lots of history and color, but not overwhelmed by busloads of tourists. I would recommend anyone to stay here.
Lourmarin is designated as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The village centre hosts many excellent restaurants. Cafes spill out onto the pavements and there are many galleries, designer boutiques, antique and gift shops. There is an excellent Friday morning market of local produce and artisan wares.
There is always a lively programme of events, including antique, book, truffle and other fairs, free music concerts, film evenings, etc. During the summer, the Protestant Temple is used as one of the venues for the Roque d'Antheron international piano festival. The Chateau sponsors a musical programme, as well.
Other activities catered for include: cookery courses, private French lessons, tennis, swimming, biking, etc.
The village is situated in unspoilt Provence, on the south side of the Luberon Mountains. The beautiful countryside surrounding the village includes fields of cherry trees, grape vines and olive orchards.
Other Activities: Cookery and art classes, French language tuition, canoeing.
