VAUJANY - THE GRANDES ROUSSES: Perched in a panoramic position at 1250 m, the resort of Vaujany is a thrilling place to discover.
Forming a magnificent, rugged backdrop is the Grandes Rousses massif - beautifully viewed from the Chalet.
You need only 45 minutes from Grenoble to arrive at Vaujany. The village resort of Vaujany has installed high-performance ski lifts including a huge 160 person gondola. Go where they take you : in the magic of winter every day is a different experience. From enjoying all the fun of the snow on skis' boards or shoes, to feeling great in the fresh air - perhaps on mountain bikes or road bikes in summer - or simply hiking. In winter and in summer, come and enjoy the extraordinary playground of the Grandes Rousses Massif. You’ll fall for the Oisans’ vast areas of unspoilt countryside.
Local cycling events include the following:
TOUR DE FRANCE LA MARMOTTE MEGAVALANCHE
Bourg D'Oisans, Col du Galibier, Col du Telegraphe, Critérium du Duphine Libere, Col de Croix de Fer
THE SKIING - VAUJANY / ALPE D'HUEZ: The 160 person Cable Car system takes you from the village at 3,812 feet to 8,540 feet in minutes.
The next stop up is 10,156 feet at the Pic Blanc looking out on to the Mont Blanc, the Grand Paradis, the Meije and the Ecrin National Park.
Skiing down offers a choice from 220 km of managed slopes of all skill levels . The pistes in french, cover 6,801 feet of altitude variant cutting through gulleys and forests, to a multitude of lift and cable car options, - frankly it's hardly possible to familiarise oneself with the whole ski domain, it being that vast.
Vaujany offers over 7,410 Acres of mountainous snow playground in an attempt to satisfy the desires and ambitions of all kinds of skiers, piste and off-piste, cross-country, competitions, snowboard, ... everybody!
The Vaujany Ski Domain is an integral part of an enormous domain covering 8 village communal territories : Alpe d'Huez , Auris, Clavans, Le Freney d'Oisans, La Garde, Oz en Oisans, Villard Reculas and Vaujany
CONVENENCE OF STAYING IN POUCHERY: Chalet Oz Vue is a brisk 4 minute drive from Vaujany. Don't let this put you off if you think you might prefer to be in a so called 'ski-in / ski-out' location in Vaujany village. Vaujany is NOT ski-in / ski-out as you need to take one of the lifts to get back to the village. So, your skis / boards are already off and being carried when you disembark from the lifts in Vaujany centre.
Conveniently, rather than hobble back to your chalet or apartment - you can simply jump into your car parked close by under cover for free after a drink at one of the local bars and be in the detached Chalet Oz Vue in no time with its huge garage plus dedicated parking for 2 cars .
The rental prices are lower in Pouchery and yet the accommodation is spacious and of very high quality.
I love cycling, skiing and hiking, oh and good red wine too! The local Cotes du Rhone is excellent slightly chilled!
Philip Smith purchased this chalet in 2009
I did research on the best places to combine skiing in winter with cycling in summer and eventually narrowed down to the Vaujany area in the Oisans.
I still remember my first visit on a beautifully crisp December morning in 2008. Fresh snow had fallen overnight but the morning was breathless with brilliant azure skies.
Approaching Les Grandes Rousses from the Grenoble road the whole range covered in snow came instantly into view as I rounded a bend about 15km from Bourg d'Oisans. I had to stop the car just to take in the view and I knew then that this was the place even before I'd chosen the chalet.
For me the most magical moments are seeing the moonlight reflected on the snow clad peaks and falling asleep hearing the owls hooting to each other!
The chalet was very clean, tidy and comfortable and we were warmly welcomed by Peiter & Terese. It was very spacious for our party of 7 but can sleep more. Car parking for a least 2 cars - more if you use the garage. Slightly outside Vaujany, it was a nice quiet situation to get back to after a busy day on the slopes. Overall a very good chalet.
We couldn't praise our accommodation enough. Chalet Oz Vue has everything you need to complete your holiday in the mountains. Spotlessly clean and comfy beds to match. We loved the decor too. The views were breathtaking and location couldn't have been better as it is close enough to all the amenities (for all age groups) you need at hand yet tucked neatly in a the hillside privately shielded along side 4 other similar properties. We will definitely be going back to stay againand have recommended this beautiful Chalet to all our friends . Thank you for filling holiday with unforgettable memories.
Thanks to you, Phil, & to Pieter and Therese your caretakers)
We had a great week at Oz Vue. We all found the chalet to be extremely comfortable with all the facilities we could have desired. Of course, the resort is fantastic - the snow and skiing were great and we all progressed in technique and scope.
We have witnessed the impressive investment in and gradual development of Vaujany as a year round destination over the past few years and would recommend it to anyone investigating a happy mix of the authentically French and a first rate skiing area. The kids were able to enjoy an additional activity on most days of the holiday - swimming, skating, 10 pin bowling etc - everyone so friendly and helpful.
We always drive to the Alps as this allows for an extension at both ends of the holiday (and, greedily, gives us an extra day skiing on the Saturday before we set off for our overnight stop as the lifts close). We can also build in a civilised lunch on the Sunday before we cross the channel and we have more room for a post holiday supply of French delicacies and wine!
Great base for skiing in Vaujany plus Alpe D'Huez ski region, the chalet is so spacious but still retains a personal homely feel. A wood burning stove makes for cosy warm evenings in the living area, a great space to relax in after the day's skiing. We'll be back.
We have just returned from a marvellous family week at Chalet Oz Vue. The Chalet was easy to find and well placed, a 5 minute drive up to Vaujany and the easy free parking for the ski lifts. It was spacious, beautifully equipped and cosy with a log burner in the evening. We have stayed in several apartments in Vaujany in previous years and found Chalet Oz Vue dramatically more spacious, relaxing and comfortable than anything else. Philip, the local agent was very helpful and provided much useful local information and practical advice. We would have no hesitation in recommending Chalet Oz Vue to families, extended families and other groups as an excellent base for a skiing holiday.
We stayed in Oz Vue in the summer of 2010 and vowed to return for some skiing. The chalet is really spacious and very very comfortable for a family of 5 - position is great but you will really need a car to make the most of all that's on offer. All facilities are A1 although TV is limited to DVDs (no bad thing in my book) and wifi is not currently available. Vaujany is a gem of a place if you like the opposite of Alp DHuez, it's quiet, family friendly, and is a good area to learn skiing but is also connected to a wider skiing area for the more experienced skier. In the summer the chalet acts as a great base for exploring the mountains and tackling the famous cycling routes in the area.
STOP PRESS! - The Times 21/11/09 - VAUJANY TOP FAMILY RESORT - They said - 'The small French resort has lots of easy slopes but is connected to the bigger Alpe d'Huez if you want more challenging skiing. There is also a fantastic swimming pool and leisure centre.'
Whether its winter skiing and snow boarding or summer cycling and hiking, Vaujany and the Alpe d’Huez / Grandes Rousses domain has it all. The Village of Vaujany is situated at 1250M with a high speed cable car taking you to the top of Pic Blanc at an amazing 3330M. From here there are an amazing 248km of linked pistes to suit all skiing and boarding abilities. From small country roads to solitary mountain passes lost in the clouds, Oisans is a very popular area for cycling. Come and explore the six valleys of this fantastic area with its winding roads, its perched villages, sitting on mountain tops like eagles’ nests, or its more gentle roads opening up its hidden valleys. Alpe d’Huez really is the Mecca of cycling!
Ski: A typical day!
Up at 7.30am. A fresh breakfast of hot coffee and tea with crisp croissants and pain au chocolat or perhaps pain aur raisains (my favourite!)
Zip up to the beautiful village of Vaujany and park free either under cover or outside - both right next to the ski lifts and the ski rental. Collect your gear from your heated locker. No queues - straight into the huge 160-person gondola and you're whisked up to the first stop at 2,000m - Monfrais. A little gentle blue and green slope skiing here or perhaps a lesson or two? Next challenge? OK zip on the gondola up to 2,800m and the Alpe D'Huez area. Splendid wide red runs and the chance to ski back to Vaujany or down to Alpe d,Huez. Best lunch at Lac Besson - not to be missed! Super adventurous? Right - zip up to 3,300m and you're at Pic Blanc - now you're in glacier territory where you can push yourself as far as you want.
Back to Chalet Oz - hot bath light the wood stove, sip the mulled wine - time for a well earned dinner!
