About Dan and Kathy

We fell in love with this century old farm at first sight, with no intention other than returning the property to its original glory. After several years of cleaning, refinishing, and painting the property is nearing its full potential. We enjoyed going to our little retreat (only 11 miles away from our own old farm house), but realized we wanted to share it with others.

Dan and Kathy purchased this farmhouse in 2008

Why Dan and Kathy chose Central Wisconsin

We have a love for century old farms, history, and antiques. We needed to keep this home from falling into more disrepair.

What makes this farmhouse unique

This home has such a special feel, the minute you drive in. We loved the quiet lakefront and peaceful setting. From the nice little kitchen, the pretty sunroom (with a view of the lake), to the fireplace in the living room, we fell in love with the property right away!

Hideaway Near Iola

  • 5 of 5

This property was IDEAL for our recent trip to the Iola Old Car Show! I first attended the show in 1985 and previously I've stayed in Wausau, Stevens Point and Plover. What a joy not to have to drive the longer distance and deal with backed up traffic.

It was so refreshing to be able to be at the show in 5 minutes. At the end of a long day at the show, just a short drive to our "home" and we could grab a quick shower to freshen up and then either prepare our evening meal in the well equipped kitchen or grill out in the yard.

An evening bonfire was the perfect way to spend our last night.

Dan and Kathy were very accomodating and a pleasure to deal with. Looking forward to staying here many times in the future.

Charming and surprisingly spacious farmhouse with many nice updates. Spotlessly clean, comfortable and private. Enjoyed exploring the lake and acreage and the abundant wildlife. We'll definitely return.

Wonderful bucolic setting

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed for 3 days as we attended a wedding in the area. It was so peaceful we wished we could have stayed longer. Dan and Kathy have made significant restoration to this property but it retains its old farmhouse character. We would like to return sometime in the future and would recommend this property to those seeking a quiet family place to stay in the Waupaca area.

Aldo Leopold would have loved this place

  • 5 of 5

This property features a renovated two story farmhouse built circa 1908. The house is clean, comfortable, and comes with an impressive menagerie of visitors: deer, osprey, northern flickers, frogs, turtles and the occasional friendly farm cat. At sunset you can switch off the TV, put down the tablet and smartphone, and obtain an hour or more of entertainment from visiting cervids. We saw deer each evening. The twenty acres surrounding the farmstead are well maintained and feature the following: a sweeping lawn which runs down to a small lake and impressive sunsets; an intimate woods loaded with birds and squirrels; fruit tree stands that draw deer; a tall grass field with narrow footpaths cut through it; a bog and a marsh. This property draws a variety of wildlife and associated sign, and so is a wonderful self-contained ecological microcosm of outdoor Wisconsin. Anyone who enjoys birding, tracking, and studying flora and fauna will find this property a perfect getaway. For the more urban types it should be noted that the property is only minutes away from the quaint settlement of Iola and the city of Stevens Point. The owners, Dan and Kathy Remington, are superb folks. The comments regarding them contained in the other VRBO reviews are spot on.

Very thoughtfully laid out place with walking trails through prairie on a large pond.

The first and last impression surrounding this place is RELAX! (It's actually written on a workshop as you pull in). The farmhouse is functionally restored and beautiful with private spaces that do not compromise the community feel of the place. The 20 acres is accessible through mowed paths. There is a canoe and row boat, which we made heavy use of. The hot tub is functional and inviting--again, heavily used. The dining table is beautiful and large enough to host the guests in the home and maybe a few visitors.

3 bedrooms: 1 w king, 1 w queen, 1 w/ twin and full. We were able to put the 3 boys (youngest is 5) in the twin/full room. The surrounding gently hilled, forested roads were great for biking and running.

If you want to relax, whether as 1-2 couples or as a family, this is a great place and the hosts/owners are responsive and accommodating.

Wisconsin Gem

First of all, Dan and Kathy made us feel at home immediately...they are the warmest couple you'll ever meet. The sprawling property has endless exploring opportunities. We had 2 families staying at the farmhouse (9 people - 4 adults and 5 kids) and we were very comfortable. Hikes through the property were nature adventures. The kids caught turtles, snakes, frogs and a salamander. Many species of birds visit the property and the private is indeed very good for fishing. The largest fish included a 30 inch pike and a 17 inch bass that was 3 pounds. The kids caught perch, bluegill and small bass from the pier. Not far from the farmhouse is the town of Iola. A short trip for supplies and the Crystal Cafe is a must for homemade meals and the best pies around! The larger town of Waupaca is only 18 miles away if one needs more shopping. Every night we sat around a bonfire and gazed at skies full of stars and saw quite a few meteors shoot by while the kids relaxed in the outdoor hot tub. What a wonderful place. We are very grateful to Dan and Kathy for sharing such a special place. The privacy is incredible. You feel a million miles away from your daily routine and as everyone knows, we all need that once in awhile. That's what a vacation is all about. We came away with many memories we will cherish for years to come.
