Why Catherine and Bryan chose Merion Village
This townhome is in one of the best locations in German Village - 1/2 block from Schiller Park! We love that it's a short walk to coffee, restaurants, bars, and the grocery store, but has a low key, relaxed feel because the neighborhood is quiet. The house itself has a mix of old and new, and we love that it compliments the neighborhood's historic character.

Great older home.
Quiet neighborhood, comfortable beds. Lots of little touches that made this a great choice. Hope it's available next year.
Charming home in great location!
We were in town on business and this three bedroom charmer was in the perfect location! The owners were wonderful and very responsive!
Super location and very comfortable townhouse!
We had a great time at the Columbus Marathon and it was so wonderful to find this gem of a house so close to the route. We were comfortable, and the house had everything we needed. There is a beautiful park right next to the townhouse and great places to eat also very close by. Catherine and Bryan were very responsive to my questions and made our stay very smooth! Thank you!
Character does not make up for comfort. The beds are uncomfortable. The one bathroom is unsafe.
Overall the owners must think that character takes place of comfort. The beds do not have box springs and they are uncomfortable and creak. The doors squeak and the floors creak. So if anyone gets up everyone is woken up. A little wd40 on the doors would work wonders. The hall bathroom is unsafe. Crawling in and out of a old bathtub to take a shower the risk of falling is 99%. At least put something on the bottom of the tub to eliminate slipping. There’s nowhere to put shampoo or soap. The back patio is not usable. It has never been cleaned or maintained. The place is so overgrown that if you started a fire the whole complex would go up in smoke. The chairs had bird crap all over them and we had to clean them to sit outside. The grill was filthy. Obviously the owners don’t care about this property just in it to make money.
We appreciate Judy taking the time to share her feedback, although we're a bit taken aback by the accusations & misunderstandings she included. In the nearly 5 years we've been hosting and 200+ reviews we've received across multiple platforms, we've never received a review like this.
A few points we'd like to address:
1 - During Judy's stay, the only issue we were made aware of was an internet outage one evening, which we had resolved within the hour. Bryan also stopped over to the townhome upon her request to purchase & install a supplemental TV station so that she could watch her preferred programming during her stay.
2 - The mattresses on the beds are highly rated memory foam mattresses that are designed to sit on solid platforms (aka "platform beds"), not box springs. This is why there are no box springs in the house, but instead solid wood frames under the mattresses.
3 - Our property listing is very detailed and transparent about what guests can expect when renting this home - including information about the restored clawfoot tub that is 30" tall & requires a step up, and the original doors & floors throughout the home. Furthermore, this same information is also clearly stated in our rental contract, which is signed by every guest (including Judy) who rents our property at the time of booking.
4 - Unfortunately, we have no control over what the birds do when we're not around, but we do indeed have the property and back patio area professionally maintained & cleaned regularly. Many guests, including friends & family we've personally hosted there, have commented that the backyard, large maple tree and vine-covered seating area is one of their favorite parts of the property.
Terrific house in German Village
Our stay in this German Village townhouse worked out well for six of us. The house has lots of character. It was pleasant and clean and had everything we needed for our comfort, including air conditioning. The location was excellent - the beautiful Schiller Park is half a block from the house. The neighborhood is wonderful for walking. There's a supermarket two blocks away, and many restaurants nearby. Maybe because it was summer, we had no trouble parking on the street. We appreciated that the owners left us an ample gift card to a local coffee shop. We highly recommend this listing.
Thank you Lynne! We enjoyed having you!
Location, Location, Location
We rented this property for our stay during our son's wedding weekend. The location near Schiller Park and all that German Village has to offer was wonderful. The house was charming and well appointed. The little table under the lighted arbor was a sweet touch.
One suggestion concerns the master bedroom that has no closet or dresser. The rack for hanging worked but a dresser would help keep items organized. I did finally figure out that I had room to roll my large suitcase under the bed. Speaking of the beds, they were very comfortable with high end mattresses and linens.
Thanks for a great stay. It was an epic, long weekend.
