The Whalekum-inn Vacation family was lovingly built by Diet and Lenora Kroeker, together with their son Donald, a master builder. The home was designed to be family friendly offering accommodations and a recreation destination for their many grandchildren and friends to enjoy. The family now shares this unique vacation home with old friends and new, by offering the home for rent by the weekend or by the week during the peak summer season.
Heather Peterson purchased this house in 1989
The family has recognized the privilege and responsibility it is to own one of the most unique waterfront estates to be found in the gulf islands. The lifetime of memories created while sitting around an evening campfire reliving the recent frisbee golf game or the race up the mountain to the tiny fresh water ROE lake for a swim will be cherished for ever. Your family and friends are invited to share this experience.
Our home will welcome you from the minute your enter the front door and are drawn immediately to the magnificent ocean view from every living space in the house. The kitchen, dining room , living room , master bedroom and media room loft all offer the same spectacular ocean view. The 3 acres of property offers complete and total privacy from neighbours. The waterfront literally seems to give the home a big hug by wrapping around 3 sides of the property on a private point of land at the mouth of shingle bay.
We have stayed at this jewel three times, and each visit has been an absolute treasure. The property is quite secluded and private- beachcomb the private sandy spot for driftwood treasures, watch the orcas swim by. This home is well stocked for large groups, clean, well organized, and ideally located. You will not be disappointed.
I can’t say enough great things about this wonderful Pender home! The views are amazing and the space makes it perfect for multiple families to share. We had six adults and nine kids and had rooms to spare. Everything is very well equipped, clean and organized; the spacious kitchen is a great hang out space! The kids (and adults) had a great time exploring the forest, using the scooters on the front drive, hanging out on the dock, hiking, looking for hermit crabs at the beach- and so much more! Even if it rains there is a Ping-Pong table, pool table, lots of games and movies to keep you entertained. We had an amazing time and would recommend this beautiful home to anyone visiting Pender Island!
This house was perfect for 4 families - 7 adults and 3 kids (Age 3, 5 and 8) with plenty of room to spare. It was so clean and had everything we could possibly want. The location was absolutely beautiful with views of the ocean on 3 sides. The whales even came by 3 times that we saw. Close to hiking, beaches, tennis, disc golf, and so much more. Definitely the best VRBO stay we've experienced.
Only a quick drive from the ferry, and you are in your own paradise! Amazing! We had family from California(Santa Barbara), Alberta, Vancouver island and they we were all thrilled with amount of rooms, space to play: fishing on the docks, horseshoes, ping pong, pool, biking and our favorite disc golf! Thank you very much for sharing your home with us. You can see that the owners Spent a lot of time planning the home to entertain family! We feel very blessed to have an opportunity to have spent a week with our family at Wal-Kum Inn! ( ps. To note for future renters: the house is stalked with all the kitchen small and large appliances and dishes you will need! No need o bring anything but your clothes!)
We loved this home and it was perfect for families; you didn't fell like you had to constantly supervise your children because it was designed for families. It's a bit difficult to find without a GPS and could use a little maintenance/love. Having to dispose of your own garbage/recycling was also inconvenient given the recycling depot isn't open everyday and it's $5.75 per bag of garbage. There are no fires of any kind (fire-pit/fireplace) on Pender in the summer so don't plan on roasting marshmallows or curling up by the fireplace. The furnace wasn't working but was insignificant given the "perfect" climate on Pender while we were there. The lady that met us at the home was less than hospitable but her counterpart was lovely.
We recommend staying here but wanted to provide a little insight into the short comings.
Had a great stay!! House was spacious, offering lots of sitting space, recreation options, and ample kitchen and dining facilities. The views were spectacular... every night we could watch the sun set over the Gulf Islands, looking northwest. Amazing beauty. Wonderful place to rest. Thank you.
