Overview

About the property

3BR Beach home with large private POOL. Beautiful view of Ocean and Mobile Bay

Take a trip back in time to Turtle Crawl; a time before high rises and congested beaches. Go back to a place where beaches of pure white sand, clean and empty, run for miles. A place where you can watch the morning fog drift through the pines and then burn away in a beautiful sunrise. Experience the sunset on your private pool deck, just outside your back door, unobstructed by concrete behemoths. If you time it right; come to a place where you may see the sea turtles boil from their nests and crawl for the ocean. Come to Turtle Crawl on Fort Morgan Beach.

A perfect fly in vacation or easy drive from Hi-way 10. Jack Edwards National Airport (Gulf Shores Regional Airport KJKA) can accommodate from Cessna to Jet sized aircraft. Gulf Air Center FBO is also a pick up/drop point for Enterprise Car leasing (Foley AL). Their expert line crew will have your rental car pulled up to your aircraft and bags loaded before you've tied down. Drop the keys with the young lady behind the counter when you depart.

Whether your journey to the Gulf Coast is by plane, train or automobile; you will eventually arrive on Highway 59 South in Gulf Shores. After you cross the inter-coastal waterway with the high rises looming ahead, take a turn. Turn west onto Fort Morgan Road (Hi-way 180) and journey back in time; go past the Peninsula Golf Course and The Pines General Store. Further past the Kiva Dunes Resort and Golf Course; a mere 16.5 miles will reset the calendar and transport you to a better place where time melts away. To your right is Mobile Bay; to your left the Gulf of Mexico glistens to the horizon. Fort Morgan Beach, dotted with individual homes, unfurls its white sands for your pleasure.

Enjoy a sunset from your private pool deck or a stroll on a quiet beach. As the moon rises over the gulf; with steaks broiling on the grill, shrimp boiling in the pot and the blender cranking in the background: time truly evaporates and takes the stress of daily life with it.

If you don’t care to cook, just four miles west is Tacky Jack's; great seafood and options for the kids. The view of the sunset from their deck is almost as good as ours. If you'd like something closer, less than a mile east is a great restaurant and bar, Sassy Bass (next to a small grocery/liquor store). Formal dining at Kiva is a short drive away, as is the informal at The Beach Club Sports Bar (5 miles) or Behind The Pines Restaurant and Bar (5.5 miles). Of course, you can time travel to the night life and action of Gulf Shores day or night.

Enjoy Turtle Crawl; and for a time, make it your own.

About Laura + Chip

Born and raised in St. Louis, the only beaches we grew up with were the rocky shores of the small rivers of the Ozarks. We first came to the area in March of 1982; we fell in love with the sugary sands and wide open beaches. We arrived under orders to Flight School for the US Navy. Our travels took us to beaches worldwide: California, Oregon, Washington, the East Coast, Hawaii, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Australia, South Pacific, Diego Garcia, Africa, Europe, Central America, The Mideast, and Mediterranean. None compared to the soft sands of the Gulf Coast. With our four children grown, we had to come back.

Laura + Chip purchased this house in 2012

Why Laura + Chip chose Alabama Gulf Coast

After retiring from the Navy we settled back in St. Louis and I flew for American Airlines. The Gulf Coast called and again we answered. We quickly found the Gulf Shores we had known was gone. A building boom had replaced the quaint down home area; we thought. Our dear old friends from flight school, and beach neighbors (two houses East) introduced us to Fort Morgan. Having grown up in the area, he knew of the well kept secret place. We were hooked!

What makes this house unique

We chose Turtle Crawl for its peacefulness and views in every direction from our private POOL deck. As owners of two small companies; one a Production company (Broken Wing) and the other a Publisher (Project 7 Alpha). We use Turtle Crawl as an escape to write and brain-storm. The daily distractions of life are swept away by the tide.

As a retired Naval Aviator, I also wanted a place close to a full service airport that I could fly our little airplane into. A true fly-in vacation home. Jack Edwards National Airport (KJKA) provides all the services any pilot could require. Gulf Air Center FBO is also an Enterprise Car Leasing pick up and drop point. The convenience of stepping from your aircraft into your rental with the A/C running is very nice. On your journey home you simply drop the key at the counter of the FBO. It is, after all, a vacation!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Laura and Chip: We really enjoyed your place and a chance to experience the Gulf Shores. It had been several decades since I had been in Alabama, where Ann was born, so it was great to spend a week there. You have a nice beach home that has all the amenities one needs. We also enjoyed a chance to visit Dauphin Island and see the aquarium there. One of our former students is on the staff.

Thanks for all you do for HSU (Humboldt State University) and its athletics programs. I hope all is well with you and you get a chance to enjoy your beach house too. All the best, Rollin

Great Fall Break Getaway!!!! The cleanliness of this house is A+. The pool is a wonderful amenity!

  • 4 of 5

My family and I stayed at Turtle Crawl for our Fall Break vacation. The house is exactly like the pictures provided and stocked with all the kitchen basics you will need plus more. The house is a very short walk from the beach with beach access right across the street. It does not have the ocean view we would have liked, but the pool was worth sacrificing the view for our kiddos. My daughter is not fond of swimming in the ocean and my son is only two so the pool was just what they needed. The location was perfect for us as we like being outside of the busy areas. It was around a twenty minute drive to restaurants and shopping one way. The owner is great to deal with and very responsive. We had zero issues upon our stay. Overall I would recommend this beach to a friend.

Awesome property and location

  • 5 of 5

I just returned from Turtle Crawl and this is a fantastic place. My entire family absolutely loved the house and being a stones throw from the beach with great views was just magic. The home is well appointed as well so we found everything we needed was there. The pool was wonderful, I spent most of my time there lazing about and relaxing in the deck chairs. I highly recommend the property if you're looking for a relaxing beach getaway away from the hustle and bustle. I will definitely return.

Great Home

  • 5 of 5

This home is just as described, the owners were very responsive and easy to work with. My kids loved having their own pool just steps from the back door. The beach access was super easy and a very short walk. Nicely decorated home and the kitchen was well stocked! All of the beds were comfortable and the house was very clean, we love Fort Morgan and can't wait to return next year.

The house was very clean and included everything a family would need.

We loved the pool and the easy access to the ocean. The location was wonderful just 15-20 minutes away from Gulf Shores. The only complaint was a few of the mattresses should be replaced.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! We are so happy you enjoyed our house, pool, beach and location. The mattresses are less than five years old and are only used a few months out of the year so we are surprised by your comment, however, we will check it out when we are there later this month. Thanks again!

Perfect for us

  • 5 of 5

We definitely recommend this beach house!! No smells, mold etc.and very clean. Kitchen is very well stocked but bring your own pitcher for tea or koolaid. Nicely decorated. Pool is perfect! Short, easy walk to the beach with ocean in view from the porch. The only thing that could be better is if there were not as many houses all around and a front porch swing would be great. Love the picnic table on the front porch! They have lots pool/beach toys, as well as games. We will definitely be back and are super happy that we chose Turtle Crawl!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your beach vacation at Turtle Crawl! There should be two pitchers at the house, a blue glass one and the plastic one with the bright green lid. Maybe they were overlooked. We will find out and replace if they are missing. Thank you so much for letting us know!

Fort Morgan National Park has an 1840's Coastal Defense Fort. This fort is one in a system of the largest brick structures ever built. Incredibly preserved historical landmark. Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge-migratory birds, beach trails/hikes, nesting sea turtles; includes a trail guide, maps and info on the various protected species found. These activities are just a few miles from the house. If you choose to make a day trip, the National Naval Aviation Museum, a part of the Smithsonian Institute, is a must-see in Pensacola, FL. You may be lucky enough to see the Navy's Blue Angels aerial demonstration team practicing their flying routine. Look closely and you will see the owner's name in the museum's Cubi O'Club, on a couple of plaques.
