Interlochen House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom, PLUS studio apt,, 3 bath, 2 laundry, air, 2 fireplaces, 3 decks, more

This flexible custom green home (studio apartment can by utilized as separate quarters), lake escape, completed in the spring of 2015, rests just 15 feet from the water's edge. It has been designed for your vacation relaxation, comfort and privacy and to take advantage of spectacular views and natural light. It is air conditioned and has its own water filtration system. There is even a 'Secret, Hidden Room' where you can relax and hide yourself away.

The open floor plan and countless windows provide you with exquisite panoramas of 2000 acre Duck Lake. From wherever you are sipping your coffee, enjoying dinner, thinking about paddle boarding or catching a big fish, you will feel as though you are on a boat, because all you see is water from almost every room.

We even made the first level handicap accessible.

The top or entrance level, with its expansive floor to ceiling main window, greets you with a dramatic view of the lake. The open floor plan means whether you are baking in the kitchen on the gas stove, sitting down for dinner or lounging in the living room in front of the fire place and watching TV, you will be mesmerized by the lake view. Here also is a 'secret, hidden, room (if you can't find it, we will give you hints!) with a chaise, convertible twin bed.. A door leads to a deck where you will want to grill and enjoy the view. The wide circular stairway leads to a cozy lake view window seat, and then the second floor. The bedroom with a king size bed offers a beautiful view of the lake, as does the second bedroom with a Queen size bed. The third bedroom has two twin size beds which can easily be moved to make a King. A door leads to a lakeside covered deck - a perfect place for morning coffee or to sit in the shade.

Follow the winding stairway to the garden level studio apartment, or cottage get-away. This is the perfect accommodation for family or guests desiring their own space. OR it can serve as additional space to watch a movie, play games, write that novel or read one from our library. It includes a kitchen, super comfortable custom Queen Murphy Bed, full bath, fireplace, its own washer and dryer and flat screen TV with extended cable. If you or your guests do desire even more privacy, this studio apartment can be securely closed off from the other living areas. Walk out the slider directly to the beach, lie down in the double hammock, dangle your feet in the water from the dock or enjoy a campfire right on the beach.

Although there are many choices to make for surrounding area excursions, if you choose to escape the outside world for a bit and not leave this charming cottage, we have what it needs to keep you entertained ... from a rowboat to fire pit, WiFi, books, music, 2 flat screen TV''s with expanded cable, games, a gas grill, 3 decks for lounging, and menus for home delivery. We even arrange for in-home massages, a personal trainer, or catering for a special event.

A short walk will take you to the world Famous Interlochen Center for the Arts for a concert or other event. Frog Pond village is a 5 minute drive, as are area restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, the State Park, a yoga studio, quilt shop and more.

Your biggest decision of the day may be whether to enjoy the breeze and view from the hammock, one of the three decks, from the window seat or living room.

About Claudia and Michael Delp

We had been looking for a 'getaway' on the water for years, something close to the Interlochen Center for the Arts, close to town and activites, yet quiet, peaceful and secluded. We couldn't believe our luck in 1993 when we came upon property at the end of a road (then with an old boathouse), not visible to any passers-by, and with the State Park behind it, affording additional privacy. Plus it was within walking distance of Interlochen Center for the Arts! It has always been a joy for us to rent, meeting people from all around the country. We hope our new 'boathouse cottage' offers all of the warmth and coziness of the old boathouse, along with all the up-to-date amenities and comforts necessary to welcome travelers. We hope you will feel as though they have discovered a place you want to return to again and again...

Claudia and Michael Delp purchased this house in 1993

Why Claudia and Michael Delp chose Northern Michigan

Location, location, location! We envisioned the cottage as a boathouse, with ample space and privacy for guests. But we also wanted an area that could double and serve as an 'artists studio'. And we think we pulled it off! As an author, Mike has written many stories and poems here, as well as musicians, actors and other artists who have asked to use this space to hone their skills.

What makes this house unique

We wanted a place where family or friends could stay while visiting us, while comfortably maintaining their own space and privacy. That is why we incorporated a light filled studio apartment with a 9' ceiling, kitchen and fireplace into the design. When the door is left open between the living areas it can serve as additional living space, yoga or workout area, gathering space, coffee bar or movie room. But when closed it becomes a welcomed separate apartment, allowing guests more freedom.

We fell in love with this property site because of its seclusion, proximity to the water, and the fact that it is still close to everything you need. It was very important to us to have a hard, sandy bottom, shallow water, wade-able shore that very gradually became deeper. We wanted it to be safe for children as well as the elderly. And we made sure that the gentle waves could be heard and the incredible view visible from almost any space. We also tucked away a private, double hammock among the trees, that, although it is just feet from the water, can not be seen. And with three decks you can have your choice of sun or shade to enjoy the peaceful lake. We look forward to sharing Morning Glory Retreat with you.

The perfect house. The perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

IT was such a great week for my whole family. There were many things to do in the area for all the diverse interests, and we could also just walk out the door to take a walk or ride bikes or go into the lake, which is crystal clear and the perfect temperature. Our dog learned to swim, which delighted young and old alike! Some evenings we could hear the orchestra students practicing at the Interlochen Camp, which inspired us to go to the concert on Sunday night. The house provides wonderful views of the lake form almost every room, and the two laundries and the big kitchen make it family friendly and inviting on every level. Claudia and Mike are the best!

Wonderful House on a Beautiful Lake

  • 5 of 5

The house is just perfect with beautiful lake views! There is enough room to fit comfortably in the living area for eating, games, and movies as well as everyone having their own private space. Cooking meals was a pleasure with the fantastic view. We rented kayaks and spent time on Duck Lake every day and enjoyed a bonfire most nights. Unlike most vacation rentals, this house is directly on the water - no long walk or stairs. We look forward to our next visit!

More than we expected.

A lovely home stocked better than any we have previously rented. Owners were helpful and responsive. The only negative, not the fault of the owner, is we did not swim due to swimmer's itch concerns.

Wonderful Place

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful home to stay in during our visit. It was updated, clean and well maintained. My wife and two kids along with her parents all stayed comfortably. The bottom level mother in law suite worked out perfectly. The views from this house are spectacular. Fishing was pretty good as well. Caught some nice large mouth and small mouth bass. Claudia and Mike are hospitable and respond quickly to any questions that you might have. We have been coming to the area for 10 years now. This is by far the best place we have lodged.

Charming and Relaxing Lake Home

  • 5 of 5

Let me start by saying how much I appreciate a rental home that is fresh and updated with a Pottery Barn style. It is my favorite. So, from the moment I walked in, I knew I would love my stay. But that was just the start. The home is designed with the lake in mind so there are three floors of expansive lake views of this utterly gorgeous lake and with the house so close to the water, there is always a gorgeous sound of the water lapping on the shore. Also, the house is always awash in light. The owners have been thoughtful in supplying the house with all its needs and carefully taking care of the property. The property has an enormous shallow hard sand lake bottom in front of it which is great for swimmers but we were still able to rent an outboard ski boat and dock it on the dock. We thoroughly enjoyed the small fire pit on cooler evenings. The only little hiccup was the intensity of light in the bedrooms in the morning. We are used to very dark rooms and the early morning sun combined with thin blinds made for earlier than expected mornings. Bring an eyeshade if you need darkness. One last thing: the owners, Mike and Claudia, are tremendous hosts who were available to us and kind. I feel like we made some new friends, not just rented a house. I caution future renters not to take that information to mean that they can behave in a high maintenance manner. Please be grateful for their gracious hospitality and don't take advantage of it!!!!

Vacation

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful place! The decor is very fitting for this up north on the lake getaway! We started the first day off with the beautiful sunrise coming in our bedroom window. This place fit our family perfect. The downstairs area is perfect for teenagers. They have their own place and we had ours! Mike and Claudia were very accomodating. Mike even had an area for us to anchor our boat in the water so we didn't have to pull it out everyday. Early in our week, the cable had to be worked on. Claudia was very apologetic and even gave us a gift card to Buds for the inconvenience. We all had ice cream and their famous cinnamon sugar donuts! We would definately recommend this cute place. Thank you so much for the hospitality!
