We, Karen and Jim, have lived just outside of Seattle for over 40 years. Because we are both still working, we can visit Casa Campanitas only twice a year and did not want to waste our pearl by the sea, so we decided to share its amazing ambiance and location when we are not able to be there.
Karen purchased this Condo in 1996
Why Karen chose Amapas
Over 20 years renting with glowing reports back....including multiple exclamations of 'the pictures don't do it justice!' We fell in love with Casa Campanitas the minute we walked in the door when looking for a vacation property in 1996 ...the charm of the Old World Architecture, and the location were unbeatable, a combination we saw in no other properties. Every time we stay, it is better than I remember, even after all these years.
What makes this Condo unique
This condo is a true find. It has three bedrooms, a great location at the beach and a pool on the terrace level right out your door, open-air rooms with the brick and arches Old World Charm– ambiance that is becoming a rarity as high-rises and modern condos and hotels take over. Casa Campanitas is definitely a marvelously unique experience.

Great spacious charming rental in PV
Loved our stay! The pool was wonderful and we had it to ourselves! Felt like our own private pool & patio. The house was lovely & had everything we needed. It is open & airy with a great ocean breeze. It’s nice to hear the waves crashing on the shore too. We did not have issues with bugs & stayed cool with the many fans. The stairs to the beach are quite a workout as is the climb up the hill from town but enjoyed the exercise. I would not recommend this spot for anyone with mobility issues though. I otherwise highly recommend a stay for someone looking for a unique spot with a true Mexican feel. I can’t wait to return.
Beautiful place. Enjoyed our stay 🙏
Great place n location, loved our stay.
Sometimes a little noisy from Blue chairs but only if you go to bed early
Hortensia and Umberto keep place spotless and well stocked with bottled water and soap etc. Would definitely stay again
Liz and Stu,
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review.
We hope you will stay with us again the next time you are traveling to Puerto Vallarta.
Like sleeping outdoors
First off, the point of this review is not to slam the property, which does have its charms; instead I am submitting facts that I wished I had known before booking. This is an odd property, in that there are no glass or screens over the very large window openings. This means that, during the day and into the evening there is no escape from the loud music at the beach clubs. Also, it was unnerving for me to be in my bedroom at siesta time, and having people right outside my glass-less window at the complex's pool. When I travel, I like to take in all the sights and sounds of the locale, but I also like to escape that when it is time to rest, and that was not especially possible here.
I realize that this is an older building, and do not expect soundproof windows like at a modern resort, but windows to keep out the noise would be nice. (As this is Puerto Vallarta, there was also a lot of construction noise.) Windows would have also kept out the aggressive mosquitoes that bit us (one of us had about 20 bites while sleeping), as well as the bat that flew through the master bedroom.
Although there is a partial view of the beach, it appears that most of the original view is now blocked by a building between this one and the beach.
Speaking of the beach, although the VRBO listing mentions the steps down to the beach from the condo, when I walked down those steps, I discovered that they end not on the beach, but in a perilous 20-foot drop--vandals destroyed the last steps months ago, and you CANNOT get to the beach in the manner described. There seem to be no plans to replace those steps, so you have to walk a bit out of the way to get to a different set of steps down. The listing should be updated.
The beds were comfortable, and the property was very spacious. However, to get to the two back bedrooms, one must walk through the master bedroom or exit the condo, then enter the very back bedroom from the pool terrace. The master bedroom has no real privacy from the living area, just thin curtains.
If you stay here, bring earplugs and bug spray.
Beautiful stay in PV
This spring, my two friends and I stayed in Karen's beautiful PV home for a winter getaway. The condo looks right out onto the blue ocean, and the sunsets from the porch are beautiful. Lot of room, and an easy walk down to the beach. I love to swim, and it's a perfect place to do some swimming. (And you can fall asleep to the sound of the waves in the distance!)
There are so many shops, restaurants and things to do in the area. We loved our at stay in PV, and would definitely recommend this condo to anyone looking for a centrally-located, spacious and well-appointed rental. Thanks, Karen!
Audrey, et al,
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and took the time and effort to write a review. That is VERY appreciated. We hope to "see" you again!
Saludos y gracias,
Karen & Jim
Casa Campanitas Condo - Romantic Zone
We stayed 16 nights and had a wonderful vacation. The condo is nicely furnished and we enjoyed the indoor/outdoor concept. As this unit is the only one located on the same floor as the pool and patio it felt like we had our own private pool. You can hear the waves crashing at night which was fantastic. The housekeeper was very good and they provide free bottle water which was a nice surprise. If you want to cook - the kitchen is fully stocked.
Now there are stairs that you need to deal with so you must be able to walk with no issues. It's not bad - but there are stairs. We loved that you simply needed to walk down the stairs and you were on the beach in less than a minute. Downtown is only ten minutes away. Nice, safe walk. I would highly recommend this location as long as you can walk stairs.
We so appreciate your feedback. Since 2014 there has been significant construction in our fairly isolated area with major changes as building has gone on around us. The former isolation has changed so the reviews from 2014 and before are not representative of the area today, like yours is.
Yes, we do have stairs...they keep us young, but we also "cheat" at times by walking down to the beach and town and return by walking up the street and down to the condo entrance. :-)
We are so glad you love the same things about Casa Campanitas that we do...we are like-spirits. Muchas gracias for taking the time to let us know.
Regardless of your desired activity level (or lack of one), Puerto Vallarta has something for you. There is a wide variety of things to do, from sedentary to rugged land and water activities in and around Puerto Vallarta, many begin within a short walking distance of Casa Campanitas.
If you like sightseeing, stroll along the Malecon north to the square for people watching (a true cultural event on Sundays when the whole family comes to town with children dressed to the nines) artwork-painting and outdoor sculptures, visit Puerto Vallarta's most famous church— Our Lady of Guadalupe, take a trolley ride tour of the city or catch one of the tours to Yalapa or Chico's Paradise where you can wade or swim in a spectacular river, or have lunch and watch others as they body surf the pools and eddies. Depending upon the season, there are neighborhood street events and bazaars with great fun, great food and great people watching.
For something requiring less effort, you can relax and have prepare dinner in the fully equipped kitchen and dine as evening turns to night and the lights along the shore are a ruby and diamond necklace outlining the bay. Or dine on the terrace by the pool. Walk down our steps to stroll along the beach. During the day, snorkel, swim, and sunbathe, then order drinks or a meal under restaurant palapas— just minutes away on the beach.
Whether or not you like bird watching or whale watching, you will enjoy seeing dolphins and whales that winter in the bay as they dive and spout, and observe the pelicans diving for fish or flying overhead with terns, green mealy parrots and other avian creatures.
Parasail, rent a fishing boat or take any of a number of specialized cruises and tours - hiking, biking, snorkeling, scuba diving, horseback riding, boating, or kayaking- that begin on our beach or just a few minutes walk north at the pier. Visit the botanical gardens by city bus or cab a bit south of town and plan for a river swim and leisurely lunch as part of your day's outing.
If you want to shop you can do so on the beach. Vendors stroll the area and offer a wide variety of merchandise. For an even greater selection, walk 10-15 minutes or take a taxi to Old Town Puerto Vallarta where restaurants and shops abound.
Plan a romantic evening at the beach watching the Mexico sun go down and enjoying the evening fireworks, make reservations for an ocean sunset dinner cruise on the Marigalante Spanish galleon, or party 'til the wee hours at any of a number of hotels, bars or restaurants like Puerto Vallarta's La Iguana Restaurant where you can participate in an authentic Mexican fiesta.
There are MANY activities and things to do while you are enjoying the warmth and charm of the Mexican people!
