We are experienced cottagers from the Toronto area and have built what we hope will be our summer home away from the noise and traffic of the city. Our kids have a few years left of traveling with us so we are taking the opportunity to share our home with like minded families.
Melanie Coulson purchased this cottage in 2010
Healey Lake is a special oasis of private bays, excellent water-skiing and fishing and has retained the cottage charm that has made Muskoka a favorite travel destination.
Sitting on the granite patio in total seclusion or watching the stars as the water slaps gently against the dock - bursting from the sauna for a refreshing plunge make this our fun away from home.
The Coulson cottage is a gem, and Andrew and Melanie are welcoming and very helpful. The cottage itself is a beautiful design which complements the shoreline and vegetation, and is surrounded by a lovely perennial garden. Inside, the cottage is well-appointed, the kitchen well-equipped, and was spotless upon arrival. The Muskoka Room is charming. The bunkie is much better than most we've seen, with a proper bathroom, good windows, little kitchen etc. The dock area is great - lots of seating and a good umbrella. The cottage is situated on a quiet part of an already quiet lake with great swimming. The property gets all day sun. We rented a boat at Mariner's Cove Marina and they are pleasant people to deal with. Our teenagers had fun tubing, knee-boarding, and fishing. Ate their share of S'Mores around the campfire too! Brought a lot of food with us, but Foodland in MacTier also came in very handy for dairy and non-perishables and is quite well-stocked. Also picked up good produce at Ontario Produce across from the lumber place. All in all a great family vacation spot.
We have rented cottages in the past and this one was by far the best we have ever stayed at. The property is stunning and the large windows all around the cottage give beautiful views. Our group of 8 plus 5 kiddies were more than comfortable and even on the couple rainy days we had, we didn't feel like we were on top of each other. The owners seem to have thought of everything when building this cottage as we absolutely wanted for nothing. The lake was perfect for swimming for kids and adults with a shallow sandy area by the fire pit and was nice and deep by the dock. We will definitely be back!
Our group of 12 had the most wonderful, relaxing vacation in this house. From the moment you walk in the front door, you are surrounded by beauty, comfort, and peacefulness. The views of the lake and surrounding nature are amazing. The flower gardens around the cottage can take your breath away. The cottage was very clean and well maintained. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen had most up to date appliances and gadgets. We enjoyed the Muskoka room, where we played games, listened to the music (the stereo system is great) and read books. We rented jet skis from the nearby marina, and kids had a blast riding. We enjoyed kayaking, fishing, wind surfing, hiking, and swimming in the lake. We felt very welcomed by our hosts, they were attentive to all our needs And we are very grateful for their hospitality. We will definitely come back!!!
We recently stayed at this beautiful property on Healey Lake. From the minute we walked through the front door our experience was exceptional. The cottage is gorgeous with stunning views of the lake. The lake side area of the property is beautiful with perennial gardens, fire pit, sauna, great dock and bunkie. All of the amenities are first class and the cottage was spotless upon arrival.
The location is quiet and pretty with lots to explore on the lake by boat or by canoe.
The fishing off the dock was great for the kids who enjoyed catching (and releasing) some bass and sunfish everyday.
The owners took care to ensure that our experience from beginning to end in their beautiful home was one we would remember with lots of tips, suggestions and information. Everyone had a great time and we hope to visit again in the future.
We arrived at noon to find a great looking cottage in a wonderful setting. The owners had provided a printed guide which we found very helpful in our navigation of the functioning of the cottage and amenities. We felt very welcome as the owners had left a welcoming note, bottle of wine and a small gift. The cottage is brand new and it and the guest cottage were clean and ready for guests. We were a group of 11 and found that the cottage and guest house accommodated us very comfortably. We were all able to sit at the spacious dining table for dinners and games. The Muskoka room provided a wonderful alternate space for relaxing, reading and conversation. The dock was equipped with a large umbrella and 8 very comfortable Muskoka chairs. We spent many hours on the dock in conversation, sunbathing and swimming. We especially appreciated the quietness on the lake. We spent most of the week at the cottage canoeing, fishing, taking hikes etc. We did play golf a couple of times at a very nice local course Diamond in the Ruff. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone seeking a beautiful setting in a magnificent facility, especially if you have a good size group to share the experience.
Can't say enough about this property and the town of Mactier. Beautiful cottage! We got to meet the owners and quickly understand why the property was so great. The Coulson's are gracious hosts and made us feel right at home. We will be returning next year. The people of Mactier were all so friendly and Mariners Cove Marina was great too. Everything at the cottage was as stated and so much more. If you want a cottage with everything imaginable this is a wonderful place for you. The lake was relatively quiet compared to some of the larger lakes. Nice and restful. Thank you to Coulson family for sharing your wonderful cottage with us.
In the Heart of snowmobile country, the property boasts several walking and hiking trails, great fishing, and local amenities in Mactier and less than 15 minutes to north Lake Joseph.
