Enjoy watching the whales breach and the turtles play in the waves during the day. At night, let the sound of the waves lull you to sleep in this beautiful private home located in Pahoa. This custom two story oceanfront, east-side of Hawaii, home is so close to the gorgeous Pacific Ocean you’ll feel like you are on a cruise ship. Have an enjoyable Hawaiian vacation where you can listen to the waves and feel the ocean breezes. The home is located near the most eastern tip of the Big Island and due to tradewinds and seabreezes is almost always free of VOG (volcanic Haze) that affects the air quality in other parts of the island.

Our home has been lovingly prepared and will make even the most discriminating traveler happy. This home offers peace and relaxation in a dramatic setting with panoramic views of the ocean. Don't forget the wonderful farmer's markets! Just down the road is Pohoiki Beach Park (swimming/surf spot), the Wai Opae fish sanctuary (snorkeling) and geothermal hot ponds. Also close by is the Hawaii Volcano National Park.

About Jennifer Cizek

We live in Alaska and frequently fly to Hawaii for vacations. The tropical life greatly appealed to us so we decided to purchase a home in Hawaii. We have been married for 29 years and have 3 lovely girls.

Jennifer Cizek purchased this house in 2012

Why Jennifer Cizek chose Puna District

We chose this home for several reasons. We fell in love with the view and believe the house is in a perfect location. We decided to do a vacation rental so we could share this wonderful environment with others. It will also help us maintain the property until the day that we can retire there.

What makes this house unique

We like the tropical breezes, the expansive ocean view and listening to the tropical wildlife. We enjoy the fresh island fruit and creative island drinks.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our family really enjoyed our stay at your home. The house and grounds are in immaculate condition. The fresh flowers and fruit were an excellent addition. The pool was a lot of fun; J spent a lot of time in it during our stay. The ocean front view cannot be surpassed! Beautiful sunrises and we did see some green turtles bobbing in the surf. The breeze kept us cool and the sound of the waves lulled us to sleep. We had a great time!

Our stay at House by the Sea, Windward Hawaii LLC, March 10-18, 2017 was absolutely fabulous! This spacious, well-furnished, clean house was the perfect get-away for our group of 5 women looking for rest and relaxation, and opportunities to explore the Big Island. Most mornings we spent in the pool and/or sitting on the 'wall' watching sea turtles below before going off to explore the island. It was leisurely and economical to have a well-equipped kitchen. We made breakfast 'at home' every day, and some days lunch and/or dinner. The bedrooms were well appointed, the beds comfortable, and we all enjoyed being lulled to sleep by the sounds of waves. The lanais provided outstanding views of the ocean, sunrises and sunsets, as did the front room with window walls facing the ocean. There are 'noodles' for the pool, chaise lounges poolside, and snorkeling equipment to use at nearby tide pools and coves. Melissa, the caretaker, was a wealth of information about the house and the island. It was especially helpful to have Melissa do grocery shopping for us before our arrival, for a very reasonable fee. After traveling for 16+ hours having milk, eggs, bread, juice, deli meat, cheese, and other essentials already at the house made day 1 much easier, allowing us time to adjust to the time change and recoup from travel fatigue. Highlights of our explorations: boat tour which got us 'up close and personal' to the lava flow; the Volcanoes National Park; Richardson's Beach (black sand) and Ocean Park and swimming in the ocean; the farmers markets in Hilo and Pahoa; Big Island Woodturners Annual Exhibition; and local restaurants and shops.Without hesitation, we recommend this house and hope, one day, we will all make a return visit. Thank you Jennifer and Joe, for sharing your marvelous home!

Off the beaten path...

  • 5 of 5

Needless to say - if you read the previous reviews - you get a pretty clear picture of this property.

If we had one small concern, it's to say that although the property is on a beautiful ocean lane of homes - the area between Pahao and here (about a 10 minute drive) is economically challenged.

Small detail.

If you truly want peace and serenity and the joy of waves lulling you to sleep each night and each beautiful sunrise - this is it.

Meticulously clean, very well stocked and well managed.

If you're lucky enough to stay here - a few must-do(s) are the Tin Shack Bakery for breakfast and Unckle Roberts Market on Wednesday nights!

This IS NOT Kona! Be prepared to be exposed to all levels of true eclectic and colourful Hawaiian life in this area.

Well worth the risk of trying something new!!

Our Favorite!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have visited the ocean front Hawaiian Beaches/Paradise Park areas 15 times. We've stayed in a number of beautiful houses (usually moving on in response to sale to full time residents).

We thoroughly agree with all of the positive prior reviews (Appreciate the useful advice!). Jennifer, the owner, is extremely professional and the communication was excellent.

The house was exceptionally clean and we enjoyed all three spacious lanais. Especially noteworthy were several windows, on all sides of the house that had sufficient overhang to leave partially open (suggest use of window locks available at Home Depot etc.); thus permitting the flow of refreshing breezes. (Our primary criticism with regard to other places was that windows could not be left open with the result of uncomfortably warm temperatures upon an afternoon return.) Also, being unfamiliar with satellite TV, we appreciated the thoughtful, step-by-step operating instructions.

For vacationers desiring a relaxing change of pace from the western resort areas, the Puna district is rivaled only by Molokai. One more tid-bit: the Hilo airport is far superior to Kona for departing flights with respect to rental car returns and much more comfortable flight waiting areas.

Will we return: ABSOLUTELY!

This is a very nice home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home is just as it is described.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in this home was excellent. It is spacious and pleasant. The location is quiet central to things on the east side of the island. (Just try to avoid late afternoon Hilo traffic.) The view is beautiful. The last 3 days were rainy and stormy, so it was fun to watch the crashing waves that could be heard and felt.

The caretaker was very helpful and responsive. Everything needed was there - beach towels, kitchen items, etc. Very comfortable bed and nice bath. It was just the two of us, but this would be a great home for a family.

The pool was a little cold (It was January), so "dips" were quick but refreshing. We saw sea turtles right in the surf before it got too stormy.

Highly recommend: Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens, Wa'a Wa'a road to Kapoho Tide pools and Kalapana side of the lava flow, Akaka and Umauma Falls, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park including Chain of Craters road, and kayaking in Hilo Bay.

Thanks for making it available.

Breathless views and crashing waves

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous 4 days staying at this picturesque and conveniently located home on the ocean. The pictures didn't do it justice. Melissa met us upon our arrival and gave us a tour of the home and great suggestions for restaurants and places to visit. We had more than enough room for our family of 4 and enjoyed the view, crashing waves, games and got out to enjoy the local sights early everyday. We started our first morning with breakfast at Pele's Kitchen in Pahoa. Delicious and great fruit sample plate! The central location was just 10 min from Pahoa, 25 min to Hilo where we explored waterfalls and downtown and less than an hour to volcano and black sand beach (although closest one is clothing optional). We would definitely stay here again and would bring grandparents or other family of 4...lots of open space and sleeping space. The LavaOne Boat tour was amazing (adventurous, bucket list worthy but boat ride is fast nauseating!).
