Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

Great location to the Virginia Creeper Trail. Loved both porches, enjoying the creek sounds. Hoping to go back next year in the spring to ride the other section of the "Creeper.'

A Cozy Cabin in a Beautiful Area

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with our little Westie terrier, just returned from a 3-day stay at this cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The cabin is just as the pictures show, or perhaps a bit nicer than they show, and the owners were very easy to work with. We especially enjoyed having the two porches, especially the back one overlooking the creek. We took advantage of the grill, which was immaculate, one night; and the firepit another night. The cabin is just across the creek from US 58, and at first I was afraid that there would be lots of traffic noise. (I am particularly sensitive to traffic noise.) We arrived on Labor Day, and there were lots of vehicles out and about that day; but after that, I wasn't bothered at all by the proximity to the highway (very little traffic); and, in fact, it probably made it easier for us to get to the places we wanted to go. And, indeed, there are lots of great things to see in the area for nature lovers! Grayson Highlands State Park is a wonderful state park, and it abuts the Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area, so there are plenty of hiking opportunities! For the biking enthusiast, the Virginia Creeper Trail's terminus is just a couple miles from the cabin. (We didn't have bikes but walked part of it.) The Virginia Creeper Trail also goes through the nearby town of Damascus, which is a sweet little town, and also the bigger and more distant small city Abingdon, which is the home of the Barter Theatre and a lovely place!

Just a very few things to consider: My husband, who has a bad back, found the beds to be too soft and uncomfortable; but I was perfectly comfortable, and I'm 64. Also, both bedrooms are upstairs, and the stairs are a bit steep. Again, not a problem for me, but this is definitely not a good place for those with physical limitations. On the other hand, I think it would be a great place for a small family with one or two young children. There is a baby gate on the front porch (we used it to contain our little terrier, but it would be great if you had a toddler). And kids would enjoy the creek!

Bottom line, this is a great cabin - well-maintained, pretty, with plenty of amenities and nice owners! And situated in a great location!

Wonderful !!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Brad and Jackies cabin. It was so peaceful by the stream. The kids hung their Eno's across the stream as well. It's a very curvy drive down to Damascus so bring your supplies and bunker in. We can't wait to go back and do the Virginia Creeper Trail again!!
