A winter vacation in the mountains.

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a cabin in the mountains at elevation with very cold weather and the possibility for snow. My wife had no idea of where we were going or what kind of accommodations we would have. I had my wife close her eyes when we arrived at the cabin she could not believe how perfect it was for us. It was 17 degrees and starting to snow. The cabin was very welcoming with fire place in the living room and a bold stream off of the front deck. Just as we sat down on the couch to enjoy the fire, a mother and baby deer appeared out of the woods as if it was scripted. How could it get any better. The following day it was -6 degrees with a brisk wind and 3-4 inches of snow on the ground. We hiked for 2 hours on trails not far from the front door and ran into a herd of 6 deer that we ran into again on the hike. This is exactly what we needed.

White Christmas, YES!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the cabin! Saw a show at Barter Theatre. Explored the Arts School in Galax. Searched for wild horses and turkeys at Highlands Park and came home to find a herd of deer munching on grass around the cabin. Loved every minute...even the 9 degree mornings!!

It was a wonderful stay. We saw deer every day as they walked by the cabin. If you are looking to get away in nature it's the perfect place.

This place is a total winner. Close to the AT and other great hikes. Cabin is very tidy. The creek was running in November and it was relaxing. Great fire pit for hanging out.

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

Great location to the Virginia Creeper Trail. Loved both porches, enjoying the creek sounds. Hoping to go back next year in the spring to ride the other section of the "Creeper.'
