This newly renovated historic home is located in the northeast part of downtown South Haven overlooking the Celery Pond - a natural wetland filled with an abundance of wild life, beautiful long views and gorgeous sunsets. The home is large with an open floor plan on the first floor and a large country kitchen opening to the generous back yard.
The second floor has four bedrooms, one king, one queen, one full, with one large room at the back of the house having five twin beds. There is also a crib, port-a-crib, or youth bed available on request. There is access to a viewing deck toward the Celery Pond from the second floor bedroom.The large rear yard and viewing decks are perfect for families to enjoy when not at the beach or sightseeing.
Enjoy a leisurely stroll into downtown South Haven, or a short walk to the many swimming beaches on Lake Michigan. There are seven access points to the Lake within easy walking distances to enjoy the miles of sugar sand beaches. The scenic harbor entrance on the Black River is marked by the historic South Haven Lighthouse and flanked by two large public beaches. An evening stroll of the lighthouse pier while enjoying a huge ice cream cone from Sherman's Dairy and watching a fabulous sunset is the perfect ending.
The Kal-Haven Recreational Trail is just minutes away, along with many cultural and scenic attractions, like the Michigan Martime Museum, the Liberty Hyde Bailey Museum, the South Haven Art Center, and the Foundry Hall Music Venue. Downtown South Haven also has an abundance of shops and restaurants to satisfy every need.

Renovating a historic house has been an interest of ours for many years and we chose a property close to downtown in a quiet residential neighborhood. It soon proved to be an ideal opportunity for vacation rental and additional income.
The benefits of the property we purchased is its location within a 10 minute walk of downtown and about 15 minutes to the closest Lake Michigan beach. The house is large (about 2200 sf) with a large open floor plan on the first floor. The kitchen opens out to a large back yard with a large viewing deck for entertaining, relaxing, and watching the sky change colors as the sun sets across the Celery Pond. The pond is a large wetland full of wildlife for observation.

I love the Cottage at Celery Pond as a family vacation spot! It easily sleeps 8+ and has space for multiple activities at once. The walk to the beach is good fun with a stop at the bridge for a sucker from the bridge operator. Thanks or another great summer family adventure.
We stayed for one week in July. House was large, had no problem accommodating our family. Owners were prompt in replies to questions or needs. Would rent again from this offering.
We had Grand Parents, Kid and Grand kids and all really enjoyed the house and its unqiue decorations! Weather was perfect and the house is only a short walk from downtown.
The "Celery Pond Cottage" is in a quiet residential neighborhood away from the crowds! And yet, you can walk to the quaint downtown with many shops and restaurants. We chose to drive the short distance to the beach to transport family and beach items. A handy weekly parking pass is available. We appreciated the roominess of the house, 3 bedrooms near the BIG "dorm" room for the kids, the helpful landlords, the huge fenced backyard and deck overlooking a wetlands. Quite important is the availability of parking for 4+ cars! There is a "Tot Lot" playground nearby. The property has easy access to the interstate, shopping and many other activities. We would like to return again!
This property was perfect for our family. Our 6 grandchildren each had their own bed in the large room upstairs in the back away from adults still up. The owners replaced the TV not working & frig right away. The large fenced in backyard was safe & a fun place for soccer & water balloon fight & the deck had nice comfortable furniture for reading. We'll definitely return.
We enjoyed this home primarily because of its proximity to downtown South Haven (a mere few blocks away) but were pleasantly surprised with everything else. While it may not have new granite countertops and flat screen TVs everywhere, we were only interested in a clean, affordable vacation home for two families to share and this home had everything we needed.
The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware, etc, and the owners made sure there was plenty of charcoal for outdoor grilling. Amazing views from the deck at the end of the property were a highlight. The owner's photos don't do it justice. The large yard is nicely fenced in, so the kids can play whiffle ball or get in a nice game of tag while dinner is being prepared.
The bedrooms are all upstairs and exactly what you'd want - three "normal" bedrooms suitable for adults/parents/older kids/etc., and a huge dormer room with 5 beds, so bedtime was easy. The house is big enough to put the kids to bed and have plenty of normal conversation without fear of waking them up. Easily accessible wifi and plenty of living space on the main floor made it easy for 10 of us to be in the house without being on top of each other.
Best of all, communication with the owners was ideal. We booked this at the very last minute on a whim and George and Leslie were very accommodating, got back to me promptly each time I had a question, and made the booking and check-in process simple. Best of all, they own the antique shop down the street, so we went in to say hi and knew if we had any problems, they would be there.
I recommend the North Beach which is a bit of a walk but doable, and the small public area on the South Beach side is closer and is nice too but gets crowded quickly. Kilwin's is a must for ice cream, Captain Lou's was better than expected for lunch, and you can't go wrong with the bakery on Phoenix St.
Overall, the home was a great value, a great trip, and the biggest compliment I could give is that I would rent this house again.

South Haven is the Blueberry capital of the country and a major producer of apples and peaches. Plan your vacation during the picking season and enjoy delicious fresh fruit. Many farms provide tours of their acreage and explain the growing cycle and harvesting of their produce.
The Michigan Maritime Museum is a regional attraction housing displays and information on the maritime history of the Great Lakes. It owns its own tall ship called the Friends Goodwill. Take a daytime or evening sale on her to watch our gorgeous sunsets.
