We had as a family, 10 adults and 11 children a wonderful time in a great villa. Everything was top. Plenty of space, the location, the terrace and Santa Cruz. And an amazing view. For a wonderful stay we all recommand (big and small) this place. Fam. van der Want (A3)
great property for groups and families
The property is perfect for large groups. We had a family group of 19 ages from 15 to 75. The separate villas allow for privacy when required. They are perfectly equipped other than there are only hobs in villas 2,3 and 4 so the only villa with an oven is villa 1 which got used extensively for pizza! The outside area is a good chilling area and an excellent pool, with views to die for off the balcony including dolphins one day. The location is excellent only 5 minutes from the airport and a 10 minutes walk to the local village of Santa Cruz. There are a number of local restaurants in the area and a bar called Arepazo which was excellent for a drink and bar food , drinks are very reasonable a pint of local Coral is just over 2 euros and a dish of picado (steak mushrooms and chips in a gravy) is 5 euros and must be tried! The local bakery does excellent egg and bacon rolls and a coffee for 3 euros. A return bus to Funchal is 5 euros, and a dolphin watching trip around 30 euros.
The downsides : weather!! We were probably unlucky but it was cloudy most of the time which spoiled the week a little. The only issue we had with the villa was 2 of the televisions didn't work in villas 2 and 3 but as we were out most of the time this didn't impact too much. Joao was excellent in responding to any issues despite a mix up in arrival times ( I should have give him the flight number and airline) so despite the weather we had a great time and would not hesitate in recommending this property.
Views to die for near a lovely village
Our extended family of 13, ranging between the ages of 13 and 76 stayed in the 1, 2 & 3 bed apartments which were comfortable with spectacular views. I don’t think I will ever forget lying in bed listening to the waves crashing below, it was quite magical. The deck area by the pool was large with enough sun beds. It was around 20 degrees whilst we were there, but unfortunately the pool is not heated so was too cold to use.
The pretty village is within walking distance, but there are a couple of steep roads to walk up on the way back which my 70 odd year old parents did struggle with. The first part of the walk from the villa to the town looks a bit run down, going under the flyover and you also had to walk past a very ferocious looking dog that was chained up but barked like mad. There are a number of really nice bars and restaurants in the village and a fantastic bakery which sells rolls to die for. There is also a good size supermarket and a fruit and fish market. There is easy access to the sea and rocks from the property and our group spent a couple of days fishing off the rocks. They didn’t catch much but they had great fun trying and most days we also saw dolphins swimming in the sea
One thing we did not realise when booking was that none of the apartments have an oven, only a hob and we found this very limiting trying to feed 13 of us. The crockery was also a bit of a miss match and we could have done with more than 2 wine glasses between 13 of us!! But it didn’t spoil our fun but it might be something the owners want to look at for future guests. The two and three bed apartments both had two showers but unfortunately we found they could not be used at the same time because of the water pressure so it did mean we had to organise showers so that only one was in use at any one time.
The village is lovely, not touristy at all and the restaurants and bars are extremely good value. We paid just over 1 euro for a pint, 3 euro for cocktails and 2 euro for wine. We also ate out a number of lunch times and never paid more than 70 euro’s between 13 of us, including drinks! We did not hire cars as we have been to Madeira before so instead we relied on the buses and walking and just relaxed, ate good food and went for a quiet drink in the evening. The size and position of the property is just perfect for that. We also went to Funchal by bus, which stops within a minutes’ walk from the property and takes 40 minutes for 5 Euro return.
I'ts just fantastic!
We spend a week in this fantastic house on Madeira this fall. Everything is great about this place. Everyone loved the pool. We swam in the ocean and we spend the days on trips all around the island.
The host is very helpful and the facilities are perfect. We thought the pictures looked great before our trip, but the truth is that the reality of this place is even better.
We just loved it!
Daniel with family

fantastic property, very clean and spacious.
12 of my family stayed for 1 week at the villa, it was very comfortable and in an amazing location by the sea. Would have liked to have stayed another week. Would love to go back in the future. Fantastic!
Many thanks for this lovely review. We're really glad you've enjoyed the villa and hope to welcome you again in a near future! Best Regards, Joao
Here in the Atlantic Ocean, not too far from the centre of Europe, we find the island of Madeira, famous for its friendly people, exceptional natural beauty and mild climate.
Madeira Islands are just a short trip from Europe, to a destination where you can combine holidays on the beach, in the mountains or in the city.
It's the ideal place to relax and restore the balance of mind and body that you need to face the stress of daily life.
Madeira is also very famous for its natural environment, where the most important feature is the Laurissilva Forest, a relic of the Tertiary Age, which has been classified by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site. It is no less well known for its year-round outdoor sports.
The island’s mild climate and a water temperature that never goes below 17ºC mean that you can be on the go all the time. Its traditions and customs, visible in its old buildings, museums and churches and even in regional products like its wine and embroidery.
