Very peaceful rural location, 30 miles from the Mediterranean

Can Llouquette is a recently renovated Catalan Mas (farmhouse).

We cater for couples or families in beautiful self-catered accommodation set in 11 acres of forest and garden with it's own stream. Relax by the pool, stroll around the garden, down by the stream, or simply find your own nook and cranny to enjoy the peace and quiet in a hammock.

Can Llouquette is set in an idyllic location in the Eastern Pyrenees. We are in the most southerly valley in France, an area of outstanding natural beauty only thirty miles from the Mediterranean, very close to Spain and at the start of the Pyrenean mountain range.

What makes Can LLouquette extra special is that it is set in its own little valley; is extremely private with no houses or roads in view or earshot and has acres of meadows, forest and stream for you to enjoy. Yet the local bakery is only 3 mins away and market towns are only 15 mins away.

We have three properties for rental, La Bergerie (for four people), Le Pommier (for two people) and L'Atelier (for four to six people).

Le Pommier is approximately 50 sq m, and can accommodate two people, or two people and a child.

It has its own living room, double bedroom, kitchenette, bathroom and its own terrace. This is a suitable option for a couple or single person, and is accessible via a private entrance.

It also has its own private terrace with an easterly aspect (towards Spain), equipped with garden furniture and is perfect for enjoying outdoor meals or simply relaxing listening to the stream.

For additional room the La Bergerie is approximately 80 sq m, and has two bedrooms (one double, one twin) each with a private bath and toilet. There is also L'Atelier which accommodates 4-6 in this separate two-bedroom accommodation.

We have found that extended families love this arrangement of properties, as it means intimacy and privacy with the ability to withdraw to one's own space when required.

Why Simon Williams chose Vallespir

We searched for years for a property with land and a river with several outbuildings. After two years of circumnavigating Canigou on the French / Spanish border we found this place and fell in love. It is tucked away in its own valley, and feels safe and secluded.

What makes this farmhouse unique

You can see the stars at night and listen to owls. There is no light pollution, no noise from roads and no neighbours. Listening to the stream, birds and butterflies it was hard not to fall in love with the tranquility of the place. And the air quality is wonderful, it is a joy to breathe the night-time air!

Tucked away on a mountainside, is a lovely getaway

Thank you so much for a lovely time - we enjoyed every minute of our stay. We were in the Apartment, and it was beautifully kept up inside and the grounds were so much fun to explore.

We had our 10 month old with us and he had a wonderful time too - it's very child friendly.

Montferrer - a place full of peacefullness.

We were enjoying the stay at Montferrer very much in june/juli 2010 and found right away our self in the middle of a place full of calm- & peacefullness. We have been many places in our summerhollidays during the years in europe but never have we found our self relaxing so much as in this beautiful environment. Beside that the accommodation at Can Llouquette had everything to make our stay a succesfull vacation

We can only recommend to make this "jump" into the french Pyrenees. ;o)

We just loved it

Zusammen mit unseren Freunden (insgesamt 4 Erwachsene, 2 Kinder) mieteten wir Studio und Apartment.

Can Llouquette ist eine kleine Welt für sich. Eigentlich brauchten wir gar nichts anderes mehr, zwischen Toben im Pool, Entspannen auf der Wiese, Entdeckertouren auf umliegende Berge oder durch den "Dschungel" zum kleinen Bach, Katzenbabys beobachten, Esel zwischen den Ohren kraulen und gemütlichen Abenden mit lokalem Wein und Gitarrenmusik auf der Terrasse...

Trotzdem haben wir natürlich auch das Umland erkundet, waren in Spanien, auf dem wunderschönen Markt unter Platanen in Ceret, zum musikalischen Donnerstag in Perpignan und am Strand in Collioure. Mittelalterliche Klöster, Burgen, alte Städte... es gibt so viel zu sehen.

Ashley und Simon waren wunderbare Gastgeber und interessante Gesprächspartner, wenn es sich ergab (und die kleine Sophia hat mit ihrem Charme alle um den Finger gewickelt). Sie haben alles getan, damit wir uns wohl fühlen - und das ist ihnen gelungen! Wir sind abgereist mit dem Gefühl, bei Freunden zu Besuch gewesen zu sein. Danke!


With our friends (4 adults, 2 children in all) we rented both, studio and apartment.

Can Llouquette is a world of its own. We really didn’t need anything else ... from playing in the pool, lounging on the grass, little day trips to the nearby mountain or through the ‘jungle’ to the small brook, watching the kittens, tickling the donkey and relaxing evenings with a glass of local wine and sounds of guitar on the terrace...

Naturally we went further afield ... were in Spain, at the lovely market under the plane trees in Ceret, to a musical evening in Pergpignan and the beach at Collioure. Medieval Churches, Castles, Towns ... there is so much to see.

Ashley and Simon were wonderful and interesting hosts, and little Sophia had everybody wrapped around her finger with her charms! They did everything to make us feel at home – and it worked! We left with the feeling that we’d been visiting friends. Thank you!

Pommiers , Can Louquette, Montferrer

We returned to this venue because it suits our needs in every respect.

Simon and Ashley are so welcoming, they provide excellent food and drink ( good quality ingredients, generous helpings) and the facilities are superb.

The property itself is cosy, clean, beautifully decorated, well provided for in terms of furnishings and kitchen tools/pots etc.

Hot showers, warm in winter.

Gorgeous location, swimming pool in summer, lawns, picturesque stunning views, mountain walking,skiing in winter, coastal swimming in summer, all in easy reach.

Hosts provide good customer service, advice, contacts etc.

We have recommended them to our friends already.

Good local resturants in Corsavy and an amazing vineyard/resturant at Chateau Jau towards Tautavel.

The perfect escape!

We had a wonderful week at Can LLouquette in August! Stunning location and Simon and Ashleigh were such welcoming hosts- nothing was too much trouble and it was lovely getting to know Sophia, their daughter. Le Pommier was perfect for the 2 of us with everything we needed and had been sympathetically and very comfortably converted. The terrace was a delightful place to while away hours in the sun and the swimming pool great for cooling off! We'd recommend ordering a meal the day on arrival day: home grown ingredients, carafe of local wine and a truly delicious meal....great way to start our holiday! We fell in love with Can Llouquette and the area - it was a real find and a perfect place to relax and wind down!

Peace and Tranquility at Can Llouquette

We stayed in the ground floor studio apartment at Can Llouquette from the 8th to the 15th August 2009. The apartment had everything that you needed, tastefully decorated and furnished and was a cool retreat from the blazing summer sunshine. The location is superb, you realise that you are in the back of beyond as you drive the winding mountain roads to the house. You'll need your car to get to local towns to pick up groceries and bread, it's certainly not a case of walking a few hundred yards for your morning croissant! To be honest it is because of its rural location that makes this place so special. The peace and quiet is wonderful as you sit on the terrace drinking a glass of wine, watching the hundreds of butterflies and the sound of crickets.

Simon & Ashley are superb hosts, from the welcoming emails before our visit, their willingness to share their knowledge of the area, to the much needed hot chocolate after getting caught in a thunderstorm on our bikes! They couldn't welcome you more into their home.

There is lots to do in the area. We drove to the coast on a couple of days (about 1.5hr drive each way) and found lovely beaches with swimming in the crystal clear Med. Prats de Mollo is a beautiful local medieval town where you can climb up to the Fort Lagarde for great views over the countryside. We'd also recommend a visit to the Gorges De La Fou and a trip into Spain to visit the Can Po restaurant. We went there on Simons recommendation for our wedding anniversary. The drive there was stunning, the catalan cuisine amazing and we finished of the evening watching shooting stars. A perfect evening.

We strongly recommend this place if you are looking for some peaceful tranquility, beautiful scenery, a bit of rural living all encapsulated in a beautifully restored Catalan farmhouse.

We'll definitely be going back again sometime in the near future.

We are in the Vallespir Valley of the Pyrénées Orientales, on the outskirts of the village of Montferrer. This is the southern-most region in France and the sunniest, averaging over 300 days per year.

At the heart of the region is Mount Canigou dominating the horizon from almost every vantage point.

The planes undulate with vineyards laid out before the impressive mountains. The higher valleys are covered with oak, ash, beech and chestnut. The views are exceptional, the roads ‘untroubled’, and the weather very agreeable.

There are no properties overlooking us, no busy roads, no light pollution, just perfect peace. The nearest market town is Prats de Mollo at 15mins.

The nearby French and Spanish Mediterranean coast has many long beaches and secluded coves: Argeles, Collioure, Roses and Cadaques.

Perpignan at 1hr is the capital and other famous cities and market towns within reach include: Ceret, Figueras, Carcassone, Montpellier, Girona, Besalu and Camprodon.

Other Activities: Cuisine, wine tasting, sight seeing, Spain, Vallespir Rally, spas, watersports.

Golf: There are some outstanding courses not far from the house. The two closest courses are Domaine de Falgos and Camprodon (over the border in Spain).

The closest of the two is the stunning 18-hole course at Domaine de Falgos.

Established in 1991, it is a Par 70 of 5044 mt, where you'll also enjoy an exceptional panorama: the snows of Canigou and blue of the Mediterranean.

The Camprodon Golf Club boasts a 9-hole course located in the beautiful natural surroundings of the Camprodon Valley.

The club has made the most of the natural course of the River Tortell which cuts across many of the holes: meaning that skill, strategy and focus are required.

Please note, gas, electricity are included in the rental price. We charge a cleaning fee amounting to 70 Euros for the two smaller apartments, 90 for the larger, and 110 Euros when pets have accompanied you. Sheets are 20 Euros a set, towels (a set of hand, bath and pool) are 6 Euros a set. Taxe de sejour (0.33 cents per day per adult) is also paid at the end of the stay.

Please note: since 2016 payment through certain websites (HomeAway, FewoDirekt, Homelidays etc) have started taking service fees on top of card transaction fees off your payment to us for your holiday. Even though we pay substantial marketing subscriptions to all of them bar Airbnb (which is wholly commission based). You always have the opportunity to pay us directly to save such transaction fees, so in such instances where you have chosen to pay via the third party (which we have no issue with) we will however ask that the holiday rental fee is fully honoured, to cover this additional new expense to ourselves.
