About the property

Romantic Vintage Riverside Log Cabin Nestled Among Towering Old Growth Pines

One opening left this summer: Aug 8-12

The Gold Fox Lodge is a vintage (1930), luxury, 4-season, romantic, riverside log cabin located in the AuSable river valley just 70 feet from Michigan's treasured Big Creek river known for it's plentiful trout, wildlife, birds, and legendary beauty.

Relax in classic comfort in this 3 bedroom, 1 bath log cabin that offers all of the upscale comforts of home while providing a rare and historic north woods romantic atmosphere. Enjoy the cozy great room layout with its leather recliners and massive stone fireplace, and original amber-aged logs and log beams. The kitchen and bathroom have been tastefully updated, maintaining the historic charm of the log lodge while integrating many of today's luxury touches we've all come to expect. Enjoy your favorite cup of coffee or glass of wine while viewing the scenic river and constant river wildlife from any number of locations including the rear lodge sun room, outdoor fire pit, riverside deck, or simply from your bedroom window. No matter the season, the atmosphere of The Gold Fox Lodge is ideal for virtually any occasion.

The Gold Fox Lodge is located nearest to Luzerne, MI (between Grayling and Mio) in the heart of the AuSable River valley. Besides having plentiful Big Creek trout and wildlife to entertain you right outside your back door - you're also only a few minutes from the famous AuSable River - home of the "Holy Waters". In the warmer months common outdoor activities in the region include fishing, hiking, bird watching, canoeing, kayaking, tubing, golfing, ATV trail riding, and horseback riding. In the winter months things don't slow down as the temperatures, snowfall, and terrain make an ideal winter wonderland for hunting, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and even downhill skiing. The area is rich with outfitters supporting your canoe, kayak, tube, ATV, snowmobile, horseback, skiing, and fishing interests; along with other convenient services such as car spotting and livery options to maximize your vacation experience.

Fly fishing enthusiasts have long considered the Au Sable region as a must visit destination. As chronicled in "Fifty Places to Fly Fish Before You Die" you'll quickly appreciate the romance of this region. Experience the Holy Waters, Masons Tract of the South Branch, North Branch of the AuSable, Mio Trophy Water, and famous Hex Hatch. In fact, it was the beauty of this region and quality of trout fishing that led to the formation of our nation's first Trout Unlimited chapter in 1959 by Au Sable river anglers.

The Gold Fox Lodge sits on 10 acres which includes both sides of the river. Guests have access to the entire property.

We have a caretaker and cleaning staff that live within a few minutes of the lodge - and can help with virtually any problem on short notice. Just prior to your arrival we will send you the electronic door lock code so that you can walk right in when you arrive.

Getting Around: The Michigan roads in this region are well maintained year round. The access road to the cabin is also maintained year round catering to 2WD vehicles.

So wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Honestly, this place is so perfect, inside and out, that any glitches in a getaway vacation (such as bad weather) do not matter in the least. I would give it ten stars if I could. My husband and I are return visitors and we plan to come back again next year.

Simply Serene

  • 5 of 5

The Gold Fox Lodge is simply serene and the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The lodge is located in the small town of Luzerne albeit the location is filled with many outdoor activities. We elected to hike one of the local trails and take in the beauty of nature and fresh air. The Gold Fox Lodge property itself is beautiful and calming the moment you arrive. It is truly a 5 star hidden gem! Thank you Jeff and Beth for sharing your little slice of Michigan paradise. We will be back!

We LOVED the Gold Fox Lodge!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at the Gold Fox Lodge. It is absolutely beautiful! We have rented various cabins over the years and this one was by far the cleanest and best maintained. We loved everything about the inside – comfortable furniture, lots of interesting lighting options, cozy fireplace, warm blankets, and even a great shower with multiple water flow options. Everything was spotless!

The sunroom was probably our favorite room in the cabin. The views out the windows were magnificent. Various birds and squirrels kept us entertained at the bird feeders, even during two days of rain. Sitting out by the creek on the riverside deck was another favorite spot. The water was clear and the waterfall across the way was an added treat.

We will definitely plan another trip to the Gold Fox Lodge. We loved every minute of our stay. The owners and caretaker go above and beyond to make your stay an exceptional one. We appreciated all their efforts and felt blessed to be there. We have already recommended it to family and friends.

First class cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Our small group has stayed at many cabins in the Grayling area but none have been as impressive as the Gold Fox Lodge. There is plenty of privacy and yet the cabin is less than a mile from Luzerne. The place has been well built/restored and is kept very clean. I recommend it to anyone looking to get away and can well understand why it is well booked throughout the year.

North Woods Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Our spring visit at Gold Fox Lodge was sunny and peaceful. Nestled in Serenity Pines, the cabin looks out on the Au Sable River. Life slows down and the river is serenaded by bird song. Adirondack chairs, a dock, a fireside pit, and a mini golf course made it easy to enjoy all the outdoor living and playing areas. We loved the coziness of the cabin when it came time to head indoors. The spacious living room with throws for everyone made it an ideal place for family time. Breakfasts and dinners were spent on the enclosed porch overlooking the river and woods. Jeff and Beth are perfect hosts who love to share this piece of heaven.

Rejuvenating Retreat in the woods Up North

  • 5 of 5

High quality everything. The Gold Fox is far more guest-friendly than any private rental I have ever stayed at, with detailed attention to beauty and comfort as well as set up for a retreat away from the world's busyness. The photos of the place and the surrounding nature don't deceive -- and it's even better once you walk in and enjoy the place. We three ladies had planned to do some sight-seeing in the area, but we were so delighted by the place that we stayed in one day to watch nature from the sun room facing the creek, play games, etc. We even saw a large river otter our last morning there!

Experience shows me that some rentals have one good bed in the master suite, but then the rest of them are budget quality and hard for people with chronic pain to sleep on. Since this was an issue for all three of us, we were a bit concerned but all four of the beds (queen, full, two twins) allowed us to sleep deeply.

To top it off, Jeff and Beth (owners) are excellent helpful communicators, happy to help their guests be prepared to enjoy their property. Add to that they have hired a gem of a caretaker who helped us with an issue the last morning before we checked out. The entire experience flowed with respect and kindness, adding to the beauty of the place.

The Gold Fox is still relatively new, but I am sure it will eventually become so popular that it will be difficult to get a booking here, so if it's your favorite from all the choices, don't hesitate to book!
