Sleeps 6, two king size and one twin perfect for romantic holiday or family fun

Beautifully restored 400 year old listed character cottage finished to the highest standards. Exposed beams, two inglenook granite fireplaces one with a wood burner, central heating and fully equipped kitchen. Modern bathroom with bath and shower over in mosaic tumble marble tiles, two king size double bedrooms both with flat screen TVs and one twin room. The Master Bedroom has a ensuite shower room. Every room has bespoke furniture made locally and is designed to be warm and inviting, the beds are made up with beautiful waffle linen. The cottage is full of low original beams and has been decorated using slate and granite which is in keeping in this Dartmoor situation. DVD player, CD player (small library of both) books, games, three flat screen TVs, phone, Range cooker, Microwave, washer dryer, Dishwasher and a basket of logs and coal. There is high speed broadband connection available.

A complimentary huge pile of homemade Devon scones and clotted cream are waiting!

Drewsteignton boasts Fingle Bridge on the River Teign with glorious walks and a riverside pub. The National Trusts' Castle Drogo is close by with garden and shops.Two Moors Way, Spinsters Rock and the fascinating Mythic Garden are all nearby, along with a plenty of excellent pubs, restaurants and tea rooms all within either a short walk or drive away. Country activities abound with horse riding, cycling, fishing, swimming, tennis, walking, bird-watching and falconry. Gidleigh Hotel and Bovey Castle's golf course, Miniature Pony Centre, outdoor pools and tennis courts. The Eden Project is one hour away. The cottage is in the heart of a real Devon village with a fantastic deli selling the best local produce and several tea shops and gasto pubs.

Tilley's Cottage has lots of character and is warm and cosy even if the weather is not kind but you are in the perfect location to tumble out of the door and buy whatever you fancy, walk around the historical trail, swim in the summer just over the road or head out to a selection of places to eat really good food. If you do decide to go further afield Moretonhampstead is known as the gateway to the Moor so you can just leave the front door, turn left and don't stop...Dartmoor is right there!

  • The bathroom is finished in natural tumble marble mosaic tiles and has high quality fittings including a bath with shower and heated towel rail There is an en-suite shower room to the main bedroom on the top floor - this has its own toliet, basin and shower.

  • There is one king size bedroom on the 1st floor which has a granite fireplace and two sash windows. There is a comfortable chair from which to watch the wall mounted flat screen TV (or swing it round to watch in bed!) and plenty of storage in antique cupboards. There is a very low beam in this room. A cot can be supplied upon request. Also on the 1st floor is a small twin room, very sweet and pretty. On the top floor there is another large king size bedroom with an en-suite and again a flat screen TV. All the bedrooms have been finished with handmade headboards, valances and beautiful curtains. All beds made with luxury waffle cotton bed linen.

Notes:
The cottage does not have a private garden but at the rear of the house there is a small South Facing area of common land which has life sized local stone sculptures of Dartmoor animals, even two horses! There is a bench next to the cottage for a drink in the sun. There is a heated outdoor pool in the village open in the summer. Moretonhampstead also has a leisure centre with all sport facilities including tennis. If you want a real treat Bovey Castle is just 5 mins drive away for golf, pool and spa facilities in one of the UK's finest hotels. All necessary equipment can be provided for young children including a stair gate, cot, highchair etc. The owners only live 15 min away and are local to the area and very willing to give advice and assistance when needed - IE important tips on where to get the best Devon cream teas and the best pub/restaurant food etc! We can also put you in touch with a company who will arrange Dartmoor Safaris taylored to your interests

Excellent

The cottage has been re-furbished to a high standard and is very cosy and warm. It is fabulously located for local amenities and with the moors virtually on your doorstep, there are a number of excellent walks close to hand. We had a really good break and I would recommend the property for anyone one looking to get away from it all.

Centrally located

A very well equipped cottage. Good quality linen and towels and the kitchen was thoughtfully stocked with tin foil etc. The cream tea left for us on arrival was a nice touch.

The butchers/ deli next door has some lovely food, pies takeaway etc. The large supermarket opposite has everything you need. The downside of this is that It can be a little noisy as people are constantly stopping outside to go to the shops and early morning deliveries are made.

If you are tall and aren't used to low beams be prepared for a few sore heads!

Cosy Cottage

The property is a cosy cottage in the town of Mortonhampstead with easy access to Dartmoor and the surrounding area. The cottage is on the road and therefore there is noise from the road and deliveries to local shops but as long as you're an early riser this isn't much of a problem. There is no parking possible on the road, other than for 30 minutes, but a car park is nearby, costs around £3 per day. The property sleeps 6 but is probably more suited to 4 adults, having 6 adults felt a little squashed and tricky to all fit on the sofa at the same time. The wood-burner was a nice feature and the open-plan design enabled us to all be together even when the cooking was being done.

Owner's Response: Sorry to see three stars for the fist time in 9 years of guests. Firstly Tilley's is small for six adults which is why with EVERY six guests I let them know in advance, as was the case with this guest, in writing, so they are aware. However with six adults dividing up the rental it represents very good value for money. The parking is free for one car as I supply a parking permit but additional cars can always find road parking for free at the rear of the cottage about 2 mins walk away (which is where I park!) The advatages of being in the heart of Moreton for both adults and children, with the outdoor pool, have been so often commented on and how generally the town is quiet and people sleep well but I have installed secondary glazing on the front 1st floor bedroom just to assist with this. However it is in the heart of the little town by the shops, restaurants and amenities and this is as described on the site and seen in the images. It is the main reason people book and have always commented in the visitors book how usuful the location was for both Dartmoor and not having to drive in the evening.

Tilley’s Cottage is the perfect base for family holidays or friends to get together. Moretonhampstead is an ancient market town situated on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon. It sits in the shelter of hills on three sides and the beautiful Wray Valley on the fourth. Dartmoor is on the door step and no matter which road you take you cannot fail to be impressed by the breathtaking views. The town is about 15 miles from the cathedral city of Exeter and 40 min from the beaches. The town offers visitors’ opportunities for hiking, cycling, and pony trekking, fishing and just relaxing. There are a variety of cafes, pubs, local shops, tea shops and a wonderful Deli. There is also a heated outdoor public swimming pool open during the summer. There are many NT properties close by, one of them being Castle Drogo, only 7 miles & the miniature pony centre for children is only 5 min away. Bovey Castle and Guidleigh Park are very near for a special treat.

Other Activities: Eden project, Great beaches 40 mins drive, Wonderful Dartmoor hiking right from the door, Hawking, Pony Centre and lots of wonderful Devon villages .

Golf: 5 Mins drive away is one of the UK's finest hotels 'Bovey Castle' if you search on the internet you will discover the delights of this hotel including a fabulous golf course open to non members. There is also a bistro and restaurant and Spa all of which we can assist in booking on your behalf
