Hale Kona Kai is a small complex of 3 dozen absolute oceanfront condos in town but off the beaten path! Located on a quiet side street (75-5870 Kahakai Road) and just a short block walk to the village of Kailua-Kona also known as Kona Town. Hale Kona Kai is only 1/4 block walk to Honl's white sand beach and a 2 block walk to the Kona Farmers Market.
In the mood to stroll along the ocean for a bite to eat, a cold beverage or some live local music? Done!!! We are next door to the Royal Kona Resort and Huggos both great places for oceanfront dinning, music and dancing. Yet you would not know it when you are out on your private lanai.
After a long day of enjoying our island relax on our oceanfront lanais (balconies). Hale Kona Kai has an amazing oceanfront view lanais only feet to the ocean and offering sweeping views of crashing surf. Watch Hawaiian green sea turtles munch away or swim just below your feet. Enjoy Humpback whales (in season), spinner dolphins, turtles, eels and schools of yellow tang just a glancing over your lanai. Your sunset is a mere glance outdoors from your living room, or just before your eyes in all its glory when you sit on your private oceanfront lanai. The ocean scene is constantly changing with light, clouds, boats, sea life, and more. If you are lucky, you might catch the famous Kona 'green flash' as the sun sinks into the warm Pacific!

Aloha, Our family feel in love with the Big Island in 1980, after years of savings and visiting the island we finally were in a position to purchase a condo. By that time we had stayed in every oceanfront complex on the Kona side, and knew there was only one place for us: Hale Kona Kai. After purchasing our condo I became a licensed property manager in Kona, and now manage the other condos at Hale Kona Kai. Our love for our complex runs deep, there is no other complex closer to the ocean. We are on a little side street with no noise, AND you can walk into town, to a lagoon and a beach, it was and is perfect. Since purchasing our beloved condo it has changed our careers. Living in Kailua-Kona on Big Island of Hawaii has brought so much joy to our lives. In addition to renting from an owner, you will be renting from an on-island licensed Realtor who manages the on-site office at our complex and the 31 condos that vacation rent. The benefits to having someone licensed and local will only enhance your vacation.

Hale Kona Kai is the closest ocean complex on the island. You are so close, any closer you will be swimming. In addition you can walk to town, the farmers market, the beach and snorkeling. We have CENTRAL AIR :) an elevator and heated salt water pool (also oceanfront)... We are a small quiet complex on a small quiet street.
Watching, seeing, hearing, smelling the ocean.. Feeling like you are front row center to sunset. Watching the whales, dolphins, fish and turtles from the privacy of your lanai (balcony).
The location of Hale Kona Kai is very convenient for anybody who would want to explore the Kona side of the island. It is in a short walking distance to the shops and restaurants, but not in a midst of it. There are a few great breakfast spots a few steps from the condo, although we had most breakfasts on our lanai in unit 307. The ocean view was breathtaking! The closets and kitchen were fully stocked with everything we could possibly need. The condo was spotlessly clean, although a little dated (the sofa bed will need a replacement soon). I would recommend this condo to my friends, and I would gladly stay there again.
Recently stayed with my wife,16 year old daughter and niece the condo we had 308 was perfect size for the four of us and is tremendously priced. The view from the lanai was absolutely wonderful and where we ate every meal. Fully stocked kitchen maybe a little older style but more than sufficient for preparing meals. The condo was clean and comfortable a/c was perfect after hot day on the beach. Great location only short walk to village and short drive to most beaches and airport. Bed was very comfortable and could hear the waves crashing on shore in the morning. This is a great place I would recommend to anyone looking to stay in Kona at a great place for a great price. If we ever have the chance to visit Hawaii again this will be the first place we call.
This was a great, clean and well furnished condo minutes from downtown Kona. The AC was on when we arrived and it was a treat to walk in to a nice cool unit. We had unit 405 which was perfect for sunsets and early morning coffee on the lanai. The kitchen and bathroom were brand new and nicely done. Equipped with everything you need to cook. The bed could use to be replaced, but not a big issue. It was an easy walk to town for meals.

The complex was quite. No kids that we noticed and it was great for an older crowd. It was our honeymoon and we couldn't have been happier.
We hope to come back next year.
We had an terrific time at Hale Kona Kai. We needed last minute accommodations and the staff was very helpful - put us in two different units to complete our stay. The location is excellent, an easy walk to shops and restaurants. The local information that Adeline provided was very helpful. And as others have mentioned, watching the sun set over the ocean from the lanai is truly memorable.
This is an older property that has been well maintained. There has some remodeling done but some of the fixtures are older. We really enjoyed the location, amenities and A/C. For those who haven't been to Kona, don't let other condos tell you that nobody has A/C because electricity prices are high. We fell for that line last year and stayed at another property down Alii St and just baked in our room. The view from your room almost suspended over the ocean is great. At Hale Kona Kai sitting on your deck with a drink is an experience you won't soon forget. We will return again next year, if not again this year.
We've stayed on two other islands and this was our first trip to Kona. Loved our suite! It was a perfect sized one bedroom with adequate kitchen. Sitting outside on the Lani with coffee in the morning was fantastic. This location is great since you can easily walk to where the shops are for food or shopping. The pool area is very nice. We liked the fact that there is a shower so you can shower off after a swim. Lots of pool side area for relaxing too. Parking was a little tight for our rental van but having a dedicated stall is nice. The BBQ is convenient as well since it was on ground floor and our unit was on the second floor. The breeze goes through the suite so we actually never had to use the A/C at all. Loved it.

Rates start as low as $90. per night (extended stays in some condos) to $180 per night during low season (April 1 - Dec 15). For our high season rates are $200 per night for oceanfront and $225 per night for corner oceanfront condos (Dec 15 - April 1 and Ironman).
