Description

Saint Ives Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Sleeps 5, in three large bedrooms, steps away from shops beach and harbour.

A classic 110 year old former fisherman's cottage, with sea views, situated in the conservation 'Downalong' area of St Ives, on a pedestrian only quaint cobbled street, just off the most photographed street in this gem of a Cornish town. The cottage is tucked away in a quiet lane behind the main area for shops/restaurants and harbour front, therefore no steep hills to climb, common in St Ives! The location is just perfect. The cottage has been totally refurbished over the years and offers accommodation over 4 floors, walking into the large lounge/diner with two fireplaces and a beamed ceiling, steps down to the large kitchen/breakfast room with beamed ceiling and toilet off, and outside covered courtyard with drying area, steps up from the dining room to two large bedrooms again with beams, one double, and one set up as a large single that has sea views, bathroom with shower, up to a large attic room with twin beds and far reaching views over St Ives Bay. A quirky, quaint but modern cottage, typical St Ives.

Free WiFi coming November 2015

Please see you tube link at the foot of the web site page for a link to a virtual tour of the cottage

PARKING

As with most of the cottages/houses in the lower central part of the town, there is no parking, however, there is a long stay (weekly) car park behind Porthgwidden beach on 'the island' and I would say, anywhere that has parking will generally be at the top of the town, and a steep climb, or on the outer reaches, so it's a bit of a trade off. Personally, I would much rather be down in the harbour area with all the restaurants and beaches minutes away! The car park is also a few minutes walk away.

The cottage is larger than average for St Ives, and could accommodate more people but I have chosen to keep numbers to a sensible level so everyone has their own space, however, it is suitable for couples, up to the larger family, as it has a warm and cosy feel despite the extra space.

KITCHEN

Lower ground floor. Kitchen/breakfast room with open beamed ceiling, quarry tiled floor, Bosch electric fan oven and grill, electric hob, microwave, flat screen LCD TV with Free view and integral DVD player, fridge, new Bosch water saving dishwasher and washing machine, table and chairs currently set up for four, for childrens meals or snacks, a sturdy wooden baby high chair, separate WC and back door to covered courtyard area for hanging washing and storing boards etc, wheelie bin and back alley leading down to Fore Street, and all the best shops and restaurants, perfect!

GROUND FLOOR: Main entrance from pedestrian only quaint cobbled lane in to small porch area, steps up to large lounge/dining room with open beamed ceiling and toughened leather 3 seater sofa and 2 tub chairs, plus a leather relaxer chair. Real flame/coal enclosed gas fire, 32' Panasonic flat screen LCD TV with Freeview, DVD, LG bluetooth music system with DAB radio, CD player, small library of books, second cast iron Victorian fireplace in dining room (not in use), second dining table for 5 people.

FIRST FLOOR AND ATTIC ROOM: Main bedroom with cast iron and brass double bed and beamed ceiling, Main bathroom with cast iron bath and shower over, a large single bedroom with pretty cast iron bed, tongue and groove colour washed and beamed ceiling and halogen spots and sea views over roof tops across the bay, steep stairs to a large attic bedroom with white washed ceilings and halogen spots and two cream metal single beds, wide ranging views across St Ives bay and beyond.

All of the above rooms are tastefully decorated and have original art work hanging on the walls.

About Mrs Debbie Elliott

I have had a love affair with St Ives ever since my children were young, now they are grown up with children of their own! I live in Hampshire but Cornwall is my second home. We have 3 whippet dogs who love nothing better than to run and explore as soon as they get down to Cornwall. I grew up with a father in the RAF, so we were always on the move, so a home is very important, whether it be here in Hampshire, or in St Ives.

Mrs Debbie Elliott purchased this cottage in 1997

Why Mrs Debbie Elliott chose St Ives area

St Ives holds a special place in our family. So when camping up on the top of the hill when the children were in their teens, house hunting was a must! Finding the cottage was like coming home, it had such a wonderful feel. Over the years the cottage has been refurbished, and loved. I hope you have the same sense of place on entering!

What makes this cottage unique

The most convenient, safe, traffic free location, in a quiet spot away from the main shopping street but just a few steps away, so you can pop out for the morning paper, a cake for tea, an urgent pint of milk, and to the pubs and restaurants in the blink of an eye! The harbour is so close, and the famous surfing beach of Porthmeor, and the Tate gallery are a short 5 minute stroll away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a super Easter at this cottage, plus weather was amazing. it was a summer holiday in Spring, without the flights! Everything went smoothly and the holiday was totally stress free. The cottage is very spacious and well provisioned. Being close to three amazing beaches, you can choose which beach to relax on depending on the wind direction and if you are up for a surf, this is also on tap. You don't really need a car as you are surrounded by beaches, walks, shops and restaurants. We are going to book again for 2011 as the location is so good. By the way, watch out for the seagulls in St Ives, they like ice cream and pasties and are experienced at getting these from you!

Stunning and homely!

  • 5 of 5

Have just spent New Year week at salmon's Leap with my partner and 11 year old daughter and all I can say is wow! The cottage is beautiful and the attention to detail is amazing. Location is perfect: you are right in the heart of St Ives but tucked away so are not disturbed by noise ( even on New Years Eve).

Your every need is catered for at Salmon's Leap, it is modern yet doesn't lose the feel of being a tradional Fisherman's cottage. It is incredibly well equipped and very warm and cosy. We have already booked for next New Year!! (Sadly, our summer week is already booked up so we will be slumming it elsewhere!). Many thanks to Debbie for a wonderful week and to Helen for ensuring the cottage was spotless and giving us a warm welcome.

We had a fantastic family holiday in this lovely house, which is less than a minute's walk from the harbour. It was clean, modern and spacious, and we thoroughly recommend it 😊

A period cottage great for families

  • 5 of 5

This our third visit to Salmons Leap in St Ives and as ever we were extremely pleased with the property and our holiday was a delighted. I was there with my daughter and her three young children and the house is perfect for our family holiday. The harbour is just a few minutes walk from Salmons Leap with the surfing beach just a few more minutes walk away.

The property was impeccably clean with really good level of furnishing and services including wifi. I have highly recommended Salmons Leap to many of my friends and we hope to return to this cottage of character again in the coming years.

Cosy, spacious, great location .....

  • 5 of 5

Lovely clean cottage in a superb location to reach all that St Ives offers .... Great beaches, shops and restaurants.

Cosy for a winter stay and nice and bright with large windows for a summer break. I would recommend but be careful if you pay for a 7 day ticket at the Island Car Park as I could not get parked there a few times. But it was Christmas week ......

Home away from Home

  • 5 of 5

Within 5 minutes of arriving at Salmons Leap we felt completely at home. The cottage was comfy, well maintained and spotlessly clean. It is more spacious than you realise and very well equipped in every way. Having visited St Ives many times in recent years, we really did find Salmons Leap cottage to be the best we have stayed in.The location is perfect and we are already thinking about returning next year.

Lovely cottage in an amazing place!

  • 4 of 5

A lovely cottage, well decorated, clean and tidy. Ideal for a family of 5 people. Amazing location - right in the centre of the old harbour in St Ives. All facilities provided for, a well equipped and looked after holiday home - would definitely consider returning again!

Located right in the conservation 'Downalong' harbour area of St Ives that was once the traditional fisherman's and artists quarter of the town. Ideally placed for a romantic getaway or a family holiday and is an excellent base for exploring the wondrous Cornish coastline. Try out the fabulous gourmet or family restaurants, wander around the lovely shops and galleries, walk the coastal path or just while away the hours on the five beaches close by. The Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth studio and gardens and St Ives Museum are a short walk away. Seal watching and fishing by boat from the harbour. St Michaels Mount, Newquay, The Eden Project, Minack Theatre and Lands End within easy reach, or leave the car at home and enjoy the scenic journey by rail! An area of outstanding natural beauty, with a special quality of light. St Ives has been voted one of the seven most beautiful bays in the world, best beach resort by the Guardian in 2007. In 2011 in 6th place, best beach resort in Europe. One week is just not enough!

  • The bath is a compact one, so may not suit those well over 6ft in height who wish to bath instead of shower, and is an old enamelled cast iron one, with a shower and enclosure over. The bathroom has been refurbished in 2014 to create a lovely quirky, contemporary space. There is a downstairs toilet off the kitchen.

Bedroom 3 - 2 twin/ single , steep stairs up to attic room, wide ranging views to bay
  • I have made the decision not to 'over do' the sleeping arrangements, even though the accommodation allows it. Everyone has a proper bed (not a futon or sofa bed!) and the single bedroom allows an elderly relative or older teenager to have their own space if necessary. Please note that there are steep stairs up to the attic room. All the rooms have a modern but homely feel, with original art work on the walls. The single room has views of the harbour and bay over the roof tops to Hayle Towans. The attic room has wide ranging sea views over the harbour and St Ives bay from the velux window.
