Located just opposite one of the most well known beaches in Mauritius, Camelia villa has 4 bedrooms, a large pool, poolside bar, BBQ facilities, and secure parking for up to 3 cars.
Internally there is a large living room with satellite TV, kitchen, shower room and a large terrace facing the pool on each floor.
The night life close by in Grand Baie is unrivalled and within walking distance there are many restaurants and boutiques.
The villa also has an alarm system which alerts a 24 hour patrol in the event of emergency.
We stayed 29 April 11 - 14 May 11. First impressions were the property could have done with some updating, repair & de-clutter and a good clean. We suspect the proerty had been empty for a while. The pool was cleaned daily by the caretaker, it was fab, very big & cooling. There were 4 adults in our group & there wasnt enough sunloungers or poolside seating. Only 2 sunloungers & one of them had seen better days! There wasnt enough towels & we had to wash them by hand as the washing machine wasnt plumbed in. But overall for the price we paid we weren't expecting the Ritz. There are 3 floors, bottom floor a bar, living/dining area with TV, we didnt really use this floor. The first & second floor are 2 double bedrooms with bathroom & kitchenette. These could be let out independantly but we rented the whole villa between the 4 of us....which I would recommend, as sharing the pool could become an issue due to the fact not enough seating etc. Very large balcony & seating which I sat out on every evening watching the beautiful birds & gekos. Its a fantastic location less than 5 min walk to the fabulous Pereybere beach, restuarants & bars.
Pereybere is beautiful, as are the Mauritians, very helpful, kind no hassles at all. It is a small bay & can get very busy with locals at weekends, but that just added to the charm. We especially liked Sea Lovers/Red Cat Bar, just at the end of our road, amazing sunsets & cocktails, Sunset Party every Sunday! Very friendly staff. We would recommend trying the Tapanaki, cooked by the Japanese trained chef - fab! The Thai restaurant - Wang Thai was also amazing food. The prices for a meal & drinks are comparable to the UK. But you can eat cheap from the vans outside the beach & from the supermarkets.
Car rental & travel agents for tours also available, We hired are car for 2 days which cost around £40. Had a wonderful time exploring the Island, would highly recommend.
We cant wait to return to Mauritius, it was definitely paradise.
We hired the entire property for 2 weeks which is a good option as sharing with others could cause issues re the pool area. The premises are not luxory but certainly functional. The cleaner attended regularly and bed linen etc was fresh and clean. We did though feel the need to wash things in the kitchen before use.
Outside the barbeque was a great size and the pool although a bit fresh was a fantastic addition. The pool furniture though was sub standard and urgently needs replacing.
The beach and the nearest restaurants are about 200 metres away as is a small shop which has super fresh ,hot bread every morning. The bus stop for Grand Bay is also very close and the car hire place just on the main road proved useful.
In total this was very good value for money. The owner was very friendluy and his arrangements re a taxi to and from the airport were perfect. Perybere is a great place with a super beach and a wide variety of places to eat. I certainly would not hesitate in returning.
