The amazing hill top fortress of Les Baux (with a 1 Michelin restaurant) The beautiful city of Avignon; home to the Popes in the middle ages. Arles; home to the Impressionist painters (Van Gogh etc) & Nimes with the its best preserved Roman Arena. St Remy with it’s beautiful cobbled streets, wonderful shops and restaurants (fantastic Wednesday market 8 -2 ) which also boasts the famous Roman city of Glanum.
See the Pont du Gard & ducal town of Uzes, the beautiful beaches of Saintes Maries de-la-Mer only half an hours drive away. To get to Saintes Maries de-la Mer, enjoy the spectacular drive through the Carmague and spend time in the Reserve Naturelle (Zoologique et Botanique). This is our home, enjoy it and respect it like your own.
There were 9 adults in our group and we had such a fabulous time. All the rooms are tastefully decorated, the kitchen very well kitted out, a BBQ outside which we used. The pool so clean and welcoming, lots of sun loungers and the big hit with the guys is the amazing pool bar.
We stayed with a few other families and there was so much space and different areas in the house and grounds that it never felt crowded. The House was really well equipped, The Kitchen is full stocked with every thing you could ever want and the owner has left their herbs and spices. The decor and layout of the house is considered, stylish and tasteful. The bed rooms are large and comfortable and there are enough bathrooms and toilets for everyone. The Grounds are large and interesting The terraces above lead to farmland so walks and exploring are right on your door step. The view across the valley from the various terraces will have you enthralled as the light moves and changes throughout the day. There is a source in the hill above and there is a constant tinkle of running water that feeds a fish pond and little stream.
The location in this part of provence is prefect. So many interesting towns are less than 30 mins away and there are Roman ruins, roman towns, bridges, gorges, beaches, brocantes, troglodyte abbeys, canals, chateaus, medieval everything, Caves, culture and restaraunts everywhere. Or you can sit by the infinity pool and read a book under the shade.
A great family house! - lovely and spacious and you instantly feel at home and able to relax with its beautiful setting and amazing view over the Rhone valley from the pool area and lovely garden. The house is really well-equipped with everything you need in the kitchen – including the owner’s supply of spices/condiments etc which is great so you don’t have to buy/bring all that stuff. It has great outside space – with a front terrace which is cool and shady on summer evenings with a gurgling brook running by, and a dining area outside the kitchen with BBQ etc. The house and garden are kitted out with wifi and there is satellite TV. The nearby village of Bellegarde is a three minute drive with a good supermarket, loads of bakers /patisseries etc. And its easy to get to Beaucaire (recommend visiting the castle there), Nimes, Arles, Les Baux de Provence and a bit further to St Remy de Provence and Uzes – both of which have great markets and lots of gorgeous shops and restaurants. Highly recommend it!
We have said at Mas Dauret several times as it's so good. We love the house, each room is beautifully decorated well maintained throughout.
The house is well equipped and perfect for a group or families with young children. The location is great, with Nimes airport nearby, the historic town of St Remy en Provence, Les Baux and the seaside at Saintes Maries-de-la-mer within an hours drive away. It doesn't get much better than this.
The house and property are wonderful!!! The location is so convenient - pastoral and yet near everything. The perfect spot from which to make day trips to Nimes, Arles, Avignon, St. Remy, Aix, the Camargue and beyond. We even went to Nice and Cannes one day! There is so much indoor and outdoor space that even with all the bedrooms full, you don't feel like there are too many people in one place. If I had it to do over again, I would book two weeks at this house instead of one so that we could alternate day trips with days at the lovely pool. Sigh. All the modern conveniences with all of the Provençal style and charm. I will definitely be back!
The house is very spacious and very well equipped. A fantastic mixing of new and old. There are two terraces. The garden is wonderfull with grass, trees, bushes and a lot of different flowers. There are a lot of places to sit in the shadows. If you want to be in the sun you go to the pool, from which the view is fantastic. The sound from the small brook is relaxing and the cicadas tell you that you are in the south. Though situated in the country, the house is not far from a village where you can do some shopping.
We enjoyed visiting Beaucaire, Nimes, Arles, Pont du Gard and the Camargue.
Mas Dauret is at the end of a private lane surrounded by vineyards and Provencal countryside. The local area is full of wonderful places of interest, from the Pont du Gard, the amazing castles in Beaucaire and Tarrascon, the amphitheatres in Alres and Nimes, the papal city of Avignon and the incredible Roman ruins of Glanum in St Remy. There are markets and vineyards to visit and so much more. Mas Dauret is a wonderful location as you are never far from something of interest to visit.
