Met all of my expectations
I should begin by stating the purpose of my time there and what I had shopped for and therefore, what I expected.....
I was in serious need of some time away....some seclusion and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the busy routine that I was caught up in. I love nature, the outdoors, camping and exploring new places. But at the same time, the conveniences of home....shelter, a hot shower and clean bathroom , a great kitchen, a comfortable bed and a relaxing spot to lounge around and read or when absolutely necessary (bowl games and Times Square ball drop), to watch TV!
What I searched for was something reasonably priced, tucked away and secluded in the mountains with an abundance of character, with a hot tub for relaxing and a fireplace. Joes cabin was the perfect fit. It was as if he walked out the door of his personal get-away and turned it over to us! How invigorating yet peaceful and relaxing.
About 30 minutes away from anything other than a small convenience store and Dollar General in Danese and a few homes populating the roadside at the top of the hill and back in Prince, you will be left to yourself.
Open the gate, close and chain it behind you so the horses don’t get out, meander up the winding well worn driveway and adjacent creek to the quaint cabin and it’s partner, a small spring fed pond. The grounds are well fertilized by the horses... that’s just part of it. Notice the large front porch with its assortment of seating and a grill or two. Then the campfire area and the ring of weathered chairs gathered round. Step inside the front door and be greeted by a mountain mud room slash bedroom, laundry, gym, library, storage and more! Oh yeah, and home to the wood stove/fireplace that you’ll be using to heat the place while you are there.
Climb the stairs and see just what you were looking for, the main living area, comfy family room, unbelievable kitchen area, a sectioned off corner hiding the “bedroom“, the hidden bathroom tucked away behind the kitchen and the balcony with hot tub perched under the open sky.
Just what I expected, just what I came for. Thank you Joe, for sharing your paradise. I treated it like it was my own home while respecting that it belongs to you. I hope to visit again soon!
PS. You will bring in your own firewood, take out the trash, wash your own towels, clean up after yourself, maybe throw out an old box of cereal, maybe leave a box of cereal. Maybe leave it better than you found it!
Lovely mountain getaway
This was the perfect place to unplug for a couple of days and *wonderful* place to take your pet. Great hot tub to relax and watch stars!!! We went during winter, I can only imagine how beautiful it is in the spring and summer. Me and the kids had a great time walking around and exploring the woods, ponds and streams.
Secluded Nature Rich Getaway!
This property is gorgeous. We had such a blast exploring the trails, playing in the creek, and the dogs wading in the pond. The beauty of nature at this place is definitely the best part. We felt secluded and private (only a small portion of the road can be seen and heard).
The cabin is well kept and clean. Keep in mind, the first floor is a garage turned sleeping area with the wood burner (main heat source), chairs, and two beds. The main living space is upstairs - that includes the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room/TV. I wish I had realized this prior, only because the steps were narrow and made of a slick tile which made it tough for our giant breed dog to navigate. There was a gate to block off the bottom level and keep him down there.
Others have mentioned the beetles in the house. Yes there were a few of them and ants too, but that didn't bother us - it's part of living in the country.
The horses (which were gone for the winter), do have access to the cabin. There are droppings throughout the property, but that didn't bother us. Joe also mentioned that there was a lower gate to block them off and keep them in the lower field away from the cabin. Just for future reference!
This is not a 5 star luxury resort and there is evidence this a well lived in property (some junk on the property and small clutter throughout the house). However, it was clean and felt homey to us!
Joe was very easy to communicate with us and quick to respond! I can see why he has excellent reviews and regulars that keep coming back! Thanks for sharing this sweet home and property with everyone!
Thank you for your thorough review. Just a couple corrections the main source of heat up stairs and down stairs is electric not just the wood stove.
I never said my cabin was a [5 star resort]. It is In my and many others opinion a 5 star rustic, cozy cabin. Also, I allow pets Resorts usually do not.
Beautiful Country Hideaway
This was definitely one of my favorite weekend getaways to date with the most amazing views of the WV country side.. The cabin was well kept, neatly organized & perfect for what we were searching.. Peace & relaxation.. Truly wonderful.. Joe was absolutely great! Had a few questions & was able to respond back within minutes.. Simple questions like, Hey Joe.. Would it be alright if we feed the horses some apples..lol! The guy was just absolutely awesome & seemed like the kinda guy I wouldn’t mind getting to know.. Definitely planning on returning again for a few days this summer or around the same time next year’ish.. Really thinking my youngest would enjoy the many adventures the property out here in the sticks has to offer with the pond, trails & or just hanging with the horses feeding ‘em & brushing their fur.. Definitely a great place for making memories along with many other things in the surrounding area to do.. Thank you Joe for giving us the opportunity to stay those couple of days at your cabin.. Happy Holidays & good health.. Jim&Julie
Thank you for the wonderful review. People like you are why I enjoy sharing this beautiful property.
Just a few mountain miles up the road is a small store with basic needs. We had a great time. Loved the quite; watched the deer and horses'; no one else around.
This cabin is in the middle of no where, but has everything you need for a relaxing get away. Peaceful, quiet surroundings, beautiful scenery, with mountain and pond views. Friendly horses to greet you, a hot tub to relax in, and a gourmet kitchen to enjoy a good meal. We loved our stay here!
This Cabin is very private. Its located in a rural area but only a short drive to Beckley or Fayettville for Shopping or a movie and resturants
