Lake Como Beach Resort & Villas purchased this villa in 2006
Named for our beautiful grand daughter Gabriella. Naming the Villa after her, keeps her in our thoughts each time we hear her name. The Villa was built in the 1700's and had been in the original family until it was sold to us in 2006. We love this villa. We also enjoy the villa in the winter where we can relax and enjoy the gorgeous lake views and warm cozy fireplace. It is located in a very peaceful part of the lake only 10 minutes from Como Centro and 15 from Bellagio. It is close enough to everything yet very private. Perfect for a
Honeymoon or Anniversary or a friend get together.
The Villa has been completely remodeled and renovated to a high standard and completely updated .

My husband and I stayed at Villa Gabriella for 5 days in April. The views from this
apartment overlooking Lake Como are breathtaking and we shall always have fond memories of sitting on the balcony with our cheese and wine. The apartment is well
equipped and the owner Eric made the stay even more enjoyable by assisting us with local knowledge and even rang the phone company when I had problems recharging my ipad.
The little bar in the village (Peppo's ) makes a great cup of coffee and we always stopped off there in the morning before our trips up and down the lake. As we are a couple of "oldies" we found the narrow roads and fast Italian drivers somewhat challenging however you do tend to get used to it after a few days. A delightful experience.
After leaving my driving licence at home the holiday couldn’t have started any worse however that was soon to change.
We (Anne & I) made are way to Pognana Lario via the local (excellent) public transport system – very much a case of planes, trains and automobiles.
What I’ve failed to mention is that Robin and Eric (the villa owners) virtually held our hands (metaphorically speaking) during the journey from Bergamo to Pognana Lario and this is something we’re extremely grateful for.
Anyway upon arrival at the villa you’re hit with some of the most breathtaking views of Lake Como that we’ve ever seen. The tranquillity of the setting is only interrupted by the tolling of the bells at the local church and the chinking of our wine glasses as we toasted the fact that ‘we had made the right decision’ in choosing Villa Gabriella.
The villa itself is set over three floors and, if you can peel yourself away from gravitating to the balconies and the views (have I mentioned the views.....), it is furnished to a high standard and certainly catered for our needs.
The villa it situated a third of the way up the hill and can be reached either by road with ample car parking directly outside (assuming you have a driving licence that is) or by making your way through the meandering pathways through the village.
At the foot of the hill you’ll find a very friendly restaurant (I think it was called The Meridian) – it was always a good excuse to stop here prior to making our way to the villa.
Further in to the village you’ll find a couple of local bars (Peppo’s was our favourite as they welcomed us like we were members of their family) and a local supermarket that should cater for most of your needs (great selection of meats, cheeses, olives, local wines and breads – what more could you ask for).
Whilst many of the locals can speak English I would recommend that you take a Italian phrase book along as it made our life a lot easier – also the locals love to see you have a go at the Italian language.
So finally as this was the first holiday without our kids (sorry boys) and was a joint celebration of Anne’s 40th (she doesn’t look it) and our wedding anniversary we couldn’t have spent it in any more of a idyllic setting.
Our thanks goes out to Robin and Eric for all their assistance – as hosts you ‘Shine’.

I could tell you about the beauty of the villa, and how stunning the surrounding Lake Como area is, but you can google that (and you should). What you won't be able to find with a simple search, and what I cannot impress upon you enough, is that Eric and Robin are the absolute kindest hosts you will ever find. Do not get me wrong - my new wife and I had the ABSOLUTE BEST TIME in Lake Como and could not have thought of a more perfect honeymoon. BUT, it came very close to being an unmitigated disaster. To give you a taste, we had our car towed, stored fresh (perch-stuffed) pasta in the cupboard, and oh yeah LEFT OUR PASSPORTS IN LAKE COMO ON OUR WAY HOME, and didn't realize it until we got to the check in counter at the airport. How did all of these things not ruin our trip? - Because Eric and Robin are unmitigatedly the warmest, most hospitable couple ever to grace this earth.
When we had our car towed for unknowingly parking in front of a driveway in the middle of the night (who knew you couldn't do that?), Eric not only hunted down our car for us, but then drove 45 min out of his way to pick us up and drop us off at the tow shop. UNBELIEVABLE. When Eric came over to Villa Gabriela to welcome us, give us a full run down of the area, give us recommendations, teach us how to make damn good espresso, he also noticed that we put fresh pasta in the cupboard instead of the fridge (who knew you couldn't do that?). But nothing comes close to when we proved ourselves to be the most disastrous of guests, when we left our passports under the mattress in the villa and didn't realize until we got to Milan's airport. Eric no joke, jumped in the car, drove an hour and half and got us our passports before our plane took off. We made our flight and I got to stay happily married because my new wife didn't have to kill me for forgetting our passports. UNBELIEVABLE.
So they saved us time and time again, but they were also fantastic tour guides & food critics. They gave us perfect recommendations on what to do & see (take a boat out on the lake - you won't regret taking Eric's advice), and set reservations at restaurants that will knock your socks off. I am currently sock-less due to all the great food and wine we consumed. So with all sincerity, Eric and Robin - thank you for everything. We'll always think fondly of our honeymoon, disasters and all, because of the warm hospitality you two provided.
All Our Very Best,
Margi & Mike
The property was well equipped and in a great location. Eric was extremely helpful and met us
on our arrival. The neighbors near the property were very friendly and responded well to
our limited Italian. The ferries on the lake make it very easy to travel around. We visited Bergamo
and St. Moritz using the ferries and the local trains which were punctual.
We would definitely return to this property.
Truly stunning vacation, Eric is the epitome of a host, and willingly goes out of his way to arrange activities, dinner reservations, travel arrangements etc to ensure your vacation happiness. Villa Gabriella is spectacular, views amazing, and we loved the church bells wake up call at 7:30am. A perfect base for ferry trips to Como shopping or lying and the lake at the nearby resort. Must do trip is to contact Nicko, via Eric, all day sailing trip is out of this world. Lunch is amazing and the crew are simply spectacular. (Tirlindana at Sala Comincia). €450 well spent.
Dinner at Meridiana was good, and within walking distance, a little tougher on the way up! Chef has his moments, can be a little tipsy and amorous, but always friendly. All in all, great vacation, great hosts, enjoy what the area has to offer. What weight you put on through the delicious food you will loose from waking up the hills.
Local market is spectacular, food is amazing, highly recommended, especially the roasted, pickled onions, the cheese and the tomatoes.
We stayed here for a week in August 2016 with our 7 year and 4 year olds. We had the most fabulous stay, helped considerably by the very lovely, knowledgable and 'nothing is a problem' minded Eric, host and owner of the villas.
The view and location were faultless - direct access to the Lake from the jetty allowed immediate jumps into the cool and refreshing lake after a hot sunbathing session on the sandy decking. The children loved the canoes/kayaks available to hire, and even more so the door to door hire boat service from the jetty allowing us to speedboat up the lake to visit Varenna with a stop for a picnic and dip in the lake on the way!!
The ferry is a short 5 minute walk from the villas allowing us to stay and explore the lake car free if we wanted.
The villas were comfortable with everything that we could have needed - some more spacious than others - but all with direct access to the communal gardens and incredible views!
As a base, we managed to cover and visit quite a few places up and down Lake Como and really enjoyed our day on Careno 'beach' which is 7 minute ferry trip from the local ferry port. A local small supermarket and a few local restaurants were nearby and all that we needed for our stay.
The icing on the cake was Eric, who accommodated our every need. Thank you!! We have been home 3 days and missing Lake Como dreadfully!! Until the next time.....
We are a family of four and stayed for a week in the Villa Gabriella. It is located in a very charming village - no huge hotels or mass tourism, but within easy distance to Bellagio, Como or other nice spots. The Villa provides comfortable quarters for four and it has even two (!) balconies with perfect lake view. As guests at the villa, we were also enabled to access to the lake which was comfortable, very quiet (again, not many people around!) and beautiful on top of it! The kids could keep themselves busy easily with jumping from the deck or using the playthings at the beach. And if you are hungry, try Peppo's bar ... The views and the wine ... Awesome and easily to be reached. The access to the beach requires a certain amount of fitness, but it is made a lot easier by a cool outside escalator.
We had booked another week at the Lago Maggiore - and looking back, we preferred the Villa Gabriella.
The contact to Eric was very easy and reliable, not unimportant so far from home!
Lake Como is one of the most unforgettable, scenic lakes in the entire world. Set in the mountains of Northern Italy, with a near perfect Mediterranean climate, this is paradise. Because of the many activities year round, the location of Villa Gabriella is fantastic; midway between the Centre of Como and Bellagio. Pognana Lario is situated in one of the most scenic locations on the lake. Both town and villa have 180° unobstructed views of the lake to the north and south as well as west. Pognana has a ferry stop and a lakeside walk for just sitting on the shores edge to daydream. With its views, villas, cobblestone streets and over 250 year old church, it is truly majestic. Guests of the villa are also welcome to the Lake Como Beach Resort for waterfront access and swimming. There are many walkways and rustic streets through the old village of Pognana that brings one back to the past. Pognana has shops, a restaurant and cafes nearby for most all of your needs.
