Compact house ('casita') in historic village of Fornalutx, with wifi internet

Bedrooms 1
Space 409 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom (sleeps 2/3), good base to enjoy Tramuntana mountains

The ‘casita’ is distributed over two floors. The entrance hall on the lower level opens into the bathroom and double bedroom. A narrow staircase leads up to a living/dining area with a small kitchen. The main windows upstairs open onto nearby gardens. In April 2014, we renovated the bathroom with modern fittings and a walk-in shower. Also, completely redecorated! There is a small outdoor space with room for a small table and 2 chairs in the passageway outside the front door. New for 2014 - a new cobbled street to make it even more attractive. The property is ideal for a couple, but a third person could be accommodated by using a folding bed upstairs. The property is accessible from the top of the central village car park with just a short walk along a pathway (mainly flat, but with one incline at the end), then 16 steps down and 25 steps up. Alternatively, it can be reached from the square on foot only (144 steps up ancient cobbles!). There are several good restaurants in the village which boast fabulous views of the mountains. Bars and cafes also serve great ‘tapas’ throughout the day. There are shops to cover holiday essentials (a supermarket, bakery, chemist, banks and gift shops).

Charming place

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed staying in the casita for six days in September.

The little house has a perfect location and all that's needed to make holiday enjoyable.

There were, however, a few things that need attention: all pillows but one were so smelly we could not use them (even the one we could we had to wrap in a sarong). The same with towels and the mattress (or perhaps it was the sheet - we didn't investigate).

Upon our arrival, there was less than half of a toilet roll left and no extra one.

As much as we enjoyed the bottle of wine that was waiting for us (thank you!), we thought a bottle of water in the fridge would be really appreciated.

We're not sure if the safe worked at all as there were no batteries so we couldn't use it.

We also couldn't find a remote for the TV but even when we tried to operate it using the buttons, it said there was no signal.

In terms of wi-fi, the most we could get out of it was running the BBC app.

Last but not least, when it comes to parking (the one closest to the casita) it's best to park somewhere in the middle as getting in and out the very top section can be a bit tricky with anything bigger than a Smart.

Nevertheless, the casita is absolutely charming and really a great place to stay. Despite the few downs, we would definitelt recommend it to our friends.

We left a beach parasol behind, hope it will be useful for other guests.

Oh, and don't miss suckling pig and steak at Es Turo - both to die for!

Owner's Response: Thank you for rating our casita 4 our of 5. We have read through your comments and were very surprised that you did not use the contact details we gave you before you arrived. Sari, our local contact, would have come to see you immediately to go through your comments. In addition, we were in the village during your stay. What a shame we did not have the opportunity to address your comments while you were there. For any potential guests, we would like to reassure you that the bed linen does not smell of anything other than the washing detergents. We regularly wash pillows and duvets. There are always two rolls of toilet paper. We also like to welcome guests with a bottle of wine - the water of Fornalutx is fine to drink. Finally, with regard to the parking issue reported, it appears that our guests drove up the path through the orange grove rather than park in the car park. Our instructions provide full details for parking.

Spring on the Island

  • 5 of 5

The ideal place to learn about the quiet and some other Mallorca. Ideally located in the mountains. Great starting point for biking and hiking. The house is very clean and beautifully decorated. We would not hesitate to come back and well recommended on the island.

Beautiful little cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is a very beautiful, nicely renovated and clean cottage! We felt very much at home, the open kitchen is very nice, so is the bedroom and the bathroom.

The only thing that's really missing is a way to enjoy the sun: sitting in front of the house is fine, but not quite the same as a balcony or large open windows ;) anyway, it makes you go out more - which is also nice!

It's beautifully placed in the center of Fornalutx. From the parking area it's just 1-2 min on foot, if you don't mind a couple of steps.

Highly recommended!! (maybe not so much if you want to stay at the house all the time, see above)

A pleasant stay in a beautiful area of Mallorca!

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed a pleasant week in the casita. Good points: excellent instructions to arrive at the cassia, parking/walking through an orange grove every day to get "home"', a good shower, well equipped kitchen (especially the juicer), and close location to the main square. Disappointment: Poor WIFi connection. Fornalutx is a picturesque mountain town in the most beautiful area of Mallorca. We'll definately be back!!!!

Owner's Response: We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay in our casita. Thank you for your review and for the lovely comments in the guest book. So we were surprised to receive just three stars. We would like to comment on the Wifi service. Our house is in a picturesque part of the village in an area where there are 100-year old houses and cobbled streets, so there is no possibility for cable Wifi. Our Wifi is delivered by satellite and when the weather is poor (as we believe it was for part of your stay), this inevitably affects the Wifi. The Wifi service is quite basic and is predominately for checking emails and browsing, rather than for streaming or gaming purposes. We hope that clarifies.

Charming casita, excellent location

  • 4 of 5

Very nicely renovated casita and a prime location at the top of the village. Great access to the village and to walking around it plus beautiful views. Internet was not so reliably fast though that may be the case for the whole village. The fireplace was a bit smoky but was still appreciated. Living room furnishings could be a bit more on standard with the wonderful casita itself but that's quite nitpicky. Bedroom was wonderful, quiet and calm and the bed was comfortable. We would stay here again!

Lovely casita

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved staying in the casita in Fornalutx. It was a pefect location just up from the main square where there's a good selection of cafes and restaurants. It's an ideal base for walking and exploring the surrounding area and there are buses to take you down to Soller and the beach at Port de Soller.

The casita itself was very cosy, clean and nicely furnished and was great place for a relaxing end to our holiday.

We would recommend it!

Car: recommended

Fornalutx has been voted the prettiest village in Spain on several occasions. Situated in a valley of the Sierra Tramuntana mountains, it is surrounded by orange, lemon and olive groves set on Moorish stone terraces. The bustling town of Sóller with its famous antique tram offers a wider range of shops and restaurants. There is also the famous mountain train taking visitors through the mountains back to Palma. The area boasts a beautiful coastline, offering walkers and bikers endless opportunities. Walking routes are well marked and if required there are opportunities for joining walking groups - sometimes combined with boat trips. Bike hire is available in Sóller. Deia and Valdemossa are about 30 minutes away by car; Pollensa about an hour. The Port de Sóller has 2 pretty beaches with good facilities. There is a public swimming pool just outside Sóller.
