Asheville Area House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Most Brevard area homes with amazing mountain views are half an hour or more away from town. Here, just drive 5 minutes and you will arrive downtown with all it has to offer. At night, experience the dazzling view of the city lights. Despite its proximity to town, this house is very private. From the expansive back decks on a summer day, you can often hear distant music drifting up through the trees from the Brevard Music Center. In the fall, take in the amazing mountain view of changing leaves. Enjoy a huge stacked stone fireplace with large dining room and living room both with fabulous views. The kitchen has river rock granite counter-tops and new stainless steel appliances.

For cyclists... there is also a garage to store bikes or other outdoor equipment. Bracken Mountain Trail is almost just outside our back door.

The property also features a private pool with a 'twisty'slide and hot tub (both open only during the summer) surrounded by beautiful stacked stone rock work. There is a gated playground with a swing set, and a custom made tree-house for the bigger kids. The playground also has a picnic table and fire ring for backyard camp-outs. Also enjoy a lower kids deck with ping pong table and tire swing. For kicking back after an active day, the kids can hang out in the indoor game room with a Netflix ready TV/DVD with wifi and an air hockey table.

About Robin McCollough

One of us is a cyclist/hiker and the other an art/ theater lover. Brevard, Asheville and surrounding areas are a haven for both. We live 30 minutes away from the house.

Robin McCollough purchased this house in 2002

Why Robin McCollough chose Asheville Area

Husband grew up going to camp here as a child. We vacationed here for 20 years before finally buying a house in the area.

What makes this house unique

When we considered selling this house the realtor said it was so unique he wouldn't know how to compare it to anything. It's a private family vacation compound in the middle of the woods, but you can get in the car and in minutes be in downtown Brevard. When we bought the property in 2002, the pool inspector gave us the history of how the pool had been built and the rock work implemented. It is remarkable because it is on the side of a mountain. He told us that he had actually submitted a bid to build the pool, and had made it outrageous never believing that it would have been possible to do. We also have an eclectic mix of antiques and contemporary art in this house.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your home has surpassed our expectations. How beautiful and relaxing even with kids and grandkids! Each child had a spot to relax in and the adults were able to talk. We loved having our family reunion, birthdays and July 4th here. My parents came up twice. They are not in good health so it was perfect for them to come and go as they needed to. You were the perfect host and hostess - helping us with the pool etc. We have made some precious memories here.

Superb relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

This is the 4th time I have stayed at this amazing property in Brevard. It truly has everything you need for a relaxing visit. The view, the pool, the game room. There is truly something for everyone. I have two boys, 14 and 5, and they both have enough to keep them busy at this location. It is by far my favorite place to be. The owners are very thoughtful and go above and beyond to ensure all needs are met. The shops and restaurants in town are a treat. Personally, I love Jordan Street Cafe! It does not disappoint. We took a day trip to Pisgah Forest and went to Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls. A short drive down the mountain to the college provides miles and miles for running through town! I will continue to come back!

Views!

  • 5 of 5

As advertised, this property is close to downtown Brevard. The road leading to it is unpaved for about 0.5 mile and has some switchbacks, something I was not eager to attempt at night, but the views are majestic. The owner and her family are eager to ensure a good stay, and the pool was great.

Beautiful area, great property, very nice hosts

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week with our family of six (two adults, four kids) and it was great! We worked with Robin on the scheduling, booking and info leading up to the trip. She was very hospitable, responsive and easy to work with. On the day we arrived Mark met us at the house, showed us around and gave us some pointers on things to do during our visit. The house is in a beautiful location above the town, great views and just a quick drive (5 minutes) down the mountain to town. It didn't bother us, but be prepared for your car to get dusty as the last half mile is gravel road. You also have to be comfortable with driving on windy, sometimes steep, single lane roads as they are everywhere around this area. The set up of the house is great for families with kids because the kids can have the lower floor with the game room, tv, and their own bath and screened in porch with a tire swing and ping pong table. The Master BR is on the main floor also a screened in porch and large picture windows all around the living and dining rooms. Nice to have a morning coffee on the porch and take in God's creation. Kitchen was fully furnished so didn't really need anything except groceries. There's a full size washer and dryer too so you don't have to pack a lot of stuff as you can do laundry anytime. The pool and hot tub is a nice touch too, you can relax right there at the house after a fun day of adventuring around Dupont or Pisgah. We only wish the house had more rooms because we would like to bring friends sometime, it was a great trip.

Brevard is a cute little town with some neat shops, restaurants and bars. While in Brevard, we ate out at Dugan's, Big Mike's and Pescados all were good. Don't miss the ice cream at Dolly's too. Brevard Brewery had good beers, but no food. If you want breweries, head to Asheville. Also, take the time to tour the Biltmore, it's very impressive.

Overall, we give the trip an A+ and the house was a big part of that.

Owner's Response: I don't often take the time to respond to guest's posts -- I am so busy and on the go and hope everyone knows how much we appreciate the reviews, and that it is a privilege to have you use our home for your vacation spot. I had to drop what I was doing though to say that these guests were the BEST. And I never met them! They were so kind and accommodating to my teen-age son who was taking care of the pool. And... drumroll....... my housekeeper called to tell me that they had washed all their sheets and folded them. Wow, that has never happened before. It turned out that my two person housekeeping team was down one that day, so it was a relief to the one who had to the job alone. I just want to say that if you would ever like to come back, you are absolutely welcome. Thank you for being such extraordinary guests. Your good karma has left its mark in Western North Carolina and will not soon be forgotten.

Great House!

  • 5 of 5

The Brevard House is a wonderful place to stay for a short or long weekend. The house is perfectly situated with expansive views, but close to the convenience of Brevard.

Robin is a great host and is intent on making sure guests are enjoying themselves. I can't recommend the Brevard House enough!

Secluded Retreat 5 Minutes from Town

  • 5 of 5

A very special place this. I have rented 5 or 6 cabins in the Brevard area over the last 12 years and this one is my favorite. The others have been great but are further from town. This one feels every bit as remote but so much more convenient to town and to trail. Plus, the view from the large screened in deck is awesome. The cabin has it all, too. Very nicely decorated, appointed, stereo, functional & stocked kitchen, hot tub, and pool. The layout is great for a variety of visitors but seems especially well suited for kids to occupy the downstairs area... very large spaces there plus another screened in porch, more view, ping pong, etc. In addition to Pisgah and Dupont mountain biking, there is also a great trail called Bracken Mountain next to the Brevard Music Center about 5 minutes away (1-2 hours worth of singletrack). Finally, the owners were super accommodating and went above and beyond to take care of us. I can't say enough about this house. Bottom line: This is a fantastic option in the Brevard area.

Great house and great location

  • 5 of 5

Our trip was focused on mountain biking. As described, it's located near a trail head and very convenient to Pisgah National Forest. Only 25 minutes to DuPont State forest and 10 minutes to 2 local bike shops. The house is exactly as you see it in the pictures. It's was great and had everything we needed. The garage was great to store our bikes at night. Assuming we return to Brevard next year, I will rent this house again.
