I love San Francisco. I grew up here. I enjoy taking a bike ride or run, and eating at our great local restaurants.
Mike & Amy purchased this apartment in 2003
It is centrally located. You can walk every where, or take public transit. Our world famous cable car is just right outside of the building.
Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Financial District are all within an easy 20 minutes walk, or take the Cable Car.
Wow! The "Fung Sui' is excellent to start off a promising stay. # Unit 8. Well lit. Not cluttered. What I love is that there is NO CLOCK staring you in the face - so relax and get ready to explore - food and food; shops and shops; galore just 15 mins away. The kitchen ware for example needs upgrading - avoid cracks (habour bacteria) lines, the numbers if it is 4 of each ought to be 4. Perhaps the white bath/hand towels could be replaced. How about few pairs of chop sticks. Thumbs up for cleanliness.
We felt Mike and Amy were accommodating when we needed a little more time to check out.
Location is good.
The Stinging Rose, a 15 min walk Class A. The Vietnamese Restaurant at the South Side of the square (near China Town Hilton) has a variety of delicious orders and we find the 3 beans dessert yummy . The cake shop just a short walk which sits on Jackson and Stockton junction next to the First Republic Bank is good for a quick bite and is reasonably priced. Walk down to the end of Powell, cross Market Street and get to 4th Street - there is a superb Japanese food outlet - excellent service.( 40 mins)
On the whole the service provided has been what we expect; one that we can communicate our needs. We will certainly recommend our relatives/friends to this place.
We have used VRBO for years and have so far always enjoyed the properties we have stayed in. Mike Amy's was no exception and we have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it to any one looking for a reasonably priced, one bedroom apartment in a superb location for exploring San Francisco. A real bonus was the 2 passes for the local transport he provided, we used them all the time both buses and cable cars.
The only problem we experienced was there was no coffee pot when we arrived! We let Mike know and popped out to get some shopping. By the time we got back that had been taken care of.
There is so much to do in San Francisco that we filled a week with no problem at all and it was so nice to be able to head back whenever we wanted, fix our own meals if we didn't want to eat out, and enjoy all the comforts of home.
Well done with this property, you know how to take care of your guests and I am sure that you will continue to be successful. Thanks!
I chose this property for a surprise trip for my partner's 40th birthday. He likes trains (but in a good way!) so being right on the cable car route was a real highlight of his vacation. Thanks to Mike & Amy's Clipper cards and Google Maps, we were able to zip around the city very easily. The location between Nob and Russian Hills has some steep streets so you will want to bring comfortable shoes!
The apartment is clean and comfortable with basic furnishings and a functional kitchen and laundry. Lots of windows let in natural light and air flow. There is some noise from the cable cars which run from 6 am to 1 am but after a couple of days you get used to them. As is to be expected in an older building, sounds carry between units: one evening we were even treated to a lady singing in Chinese for an hour or so.
There are a number of corner stores within walking distance but for groceries you will need to go further afield - there's a Safeway at the end of the Mason cable car line. The coffee shop across from the Cable Car garage is good for coffee and light meals.
In terms of activities, we spent a couple of days in and around Golden Gate Park, including eclectic shopping in Haight-Ashbury; rented a car for the day and drove down the coast to Monterey; wandered around Fisherman's Wharf; did some shopping around Union Square, walked down to the Ferry Building and took the ferry to Sausalito and back; and spent a rainy Thursday afternoon exploring Alcatraz. We also took in a couple of plays and a live singer, all close by in the Entertainment District.
Mike was very friendly and responded promptly to all of our questions. Since we had late flights home, we were able to arrange a later departure, which allowed us to enjoy the most out of our final day in the city without having to carry our luggage around town with us.
All in all, we would certainly recommend this property to anyone seeking a San Francisco getaway, you won't be disappointed.
Everything at this apartment was as hoped for and expected. It was clean, comfortable and spacious. The use of the Clipper card was a fantastic added bonus. And the convenience of the Cable Car right outside can't be beat. If you are a light sleeper however, the cables under the road from the cable cars make a constant noise. And the room faces east and does not have room darkening blinds. You might want to take ear plugs and a sleeping mask. In spite of this, it was a great place to stay!!
A large apartment and very clean. It is very close to Chinatown and public transport. The front bedroom is very noisy and has no way of blocking the morning light so if you are a light sleeper, you will need to think twice about this apartment.
The owner is very helpful.
Staying in this apartment enabled us to feel that we were part of Nob Hill and the life in San Francisco, not just tourists. We loved the safe, quiet building and the feeling that we could see daily life outside from the bedroom bay window. The view of the Bay Bridge is awesome, the photos do not do it justice. At night, the artwork light installations on this bridge create a seemingly endless variety of patterns, it is worth spending time watching this. The location on the hill provided great exercise when the cable cars were full, and when they were not we enjoyed the trips on them to and from various locations. We also visited the Cable Car Museum just up the road, entry is free, and we would recommend this highly to anyone with an interest in engineering or historical matters. The MUNI cards were a huge bonus and we were able to travel around free using these, thanks Mike and Amy. We were able to walk to many places from Nob Hill - North Beach, downtown, the Ferry building, etc.
I would definitely stay here again. On the less positive side, the cable cars are a little noisy at night outside the bedroom but that is just life really, and we loved watching them going up and down the street from the bay window during the day.
Overall, a great experience, highly recommended.
