A new flat refurbished to the very highest standards (April '12). Owner lives nearby. Very close to transport routes for airport and tourist sites. Unlimited and complimentary super fast (60mb/min) fibre optic wifi.
An ideal blend of tranquil location on a quiet street whilst being 10 minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of the world famous Portobello Road and further on to Notting Hill Gate.
There will be a complimentary welcome pack of food on your arrival including wine, beer, bread, butter, milk, tea, coffee and nibbles etc so you don't have to rush to the shops.
Cassie was raised in Notting Hill. Philip is Irish (which says a lot!). We've been married for 10 years and we have 3 small children. We live directly opposite the flat, so can help you out with any queries about London you might have.
Philip McCabe purchased this apartment in 2012
We live across the street from the property. This is our 2nd VRBO rental. We have so enjoyed meeting VRBO-ers that we decided to expand the experience. We use VRBO for our own vacation rentals.
The apartment is quiet, yet minutes from all the Portobello Road action. A lovely little, local park called Kensington Memorial Gardens is 30 seconds walk from the front door and can be viewed from the south facing windows.
We are a family of six so the price-value-space-proximity ratio was excellent.
The flat is spacious, well-laid out and clean and everything is in great working order.
The owners provided an information booklet which was accurate, current and helpful.
The only thing I would caution people on is if you are planning to spend most of your time seeing the typical central London sites that the journey time to/from flat from the center is not inconsiderable...we found that the optimal approach was to plan to leave the flat and have breakfast at one of the local places (walking distance) near Portobello Road and then head in to central London for the remainder of the day and plan to eat dinner on the way home rather than return to the flat and then face heading out again at a late hour. Also, for those accustomed to walking out the door and hailing a taxi, this is not an option here so you will need to use Uber (which worked perfectly for us), the bus or underground options described in the information book
Our party of 6 had a very comfortable stay at this apartment. It is exactly as described in the description and photo's. Philip is a fantastic host and staying here helped make our vacation in London very enjoyable. I will also add, as many others have, that the #7 bus is awesome and makes getting around very convenient. Philip's recommendation for transportation to and from Heathrow was also first rate. The welcome basket was much appreciated and the apartment was very well equipped for our stay. Thank you Philip!!
We used the space for a family visit/reunion with five adults. It has nice bedroom space, a nice kitchen and family gathering area. We like the nice backyard on the days we had good weather. It is close to a bus stop but completely quiet at Night, a nice change from noisy central London. It is been updated throughout, and we did not have any problems. I walked to the grocery store and it's only a 10 to 15 minute walk to Portobello Road, which has numerous restaurants
Phillip and Mari's house was our home away from home. The easy on /off number 7 bus was our main mode of transport and got us where we needed to get to with minimal connections. The welcome package was a very good blessing as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - 4 adults and 1 child and will look forward to a chance to return.
You know how sometimes the photos exaggerate how sunny, or spacious or smart the actual place really is? Well, in this case, the photos didn't begin to depict what a lovely, cheery, bright, clean and spacious this home really is.
When we arrived, Philip greeted us not only with a warm smile, but he also presented us with a welcome basket, laden with goodies like butter, bread, eggs, orange juice, milk, wine and beer. We were thrilled that we didn’t have to run to a store to make breakfast.
The flat was perfect, with three generously-sized bedrooms and two clean, modern bathrooms. (The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom, which had a much-needed washer and dryer.) Had the weather been a touch warmer, we would have happily taken advantage of the lovely private back garden, where you can dine or simply relax on fair days.
We loved the quiet residential street, which is a 1-minute walk to a bus that takes you into Central London. Most days, we walked the 7-10 minutes to the closest Underground, which got us to all parts of London easily. For those with wee little ones in tow, there is a nice little playground right around the corner. A great local supermarket is right next to the Underground stop, which made shopping for dinner and breakfast fast and easy.
Philip is the absolutely perfect host, concierge and unfailing guide. He had a freshly-cleaned set of towels for all 5 of us, along with quality bedding and super-comfortable beds. He gave us an array of guides and maps, games, and books, along with a binder he compiled especially for guests, with helpful recommendations. And oh yes, the wireless worked great, and he thoughtfully provided adaptors just in case.
Philip was incredibly responsive throughout the whole process, from booking our stay and during every one of the six days we were there. I cannot recommend this place enough. You would be very lucky to stay here.
My family (2 adults, 2 young kids, 2 grandparents) recently stayed at this property and had a lovely experience. From the thoughtful (and appreciated) welcome packet, to the ease of departure and everything in between, it was the perfect holiday. Philip was so helpful and accessible before and during our stay. We tried some of their local restaurant recommendations and enjoyed them all. There is a bus stop around the corner and this was our main mode of transportation. The area was quiet and peaceful and the apartment clean and fully-equipped. We would stay there again.
