About Gary

I love the peaceful mountain setting and abundance of outdoor activities that this area has to offer. My family and I have enjoyed skiing, hiking and mountain biking around this area for the past 20 years. Come and explore all that this gorgeous mountain lifestyle has to offer.

Gary purchased this chalet in 2012

Why Gary chose Washington

Watch the elk wander by and you enjoy the large hot tub, sit and warm yourself by the large fire pit on cool evenings or take a short walk to the river and relax. The Elk Crossing Chalet will be the most relaxing and exciting vacation that you'll be talking about for years! We hope to see you soon!

What makes this chalet unique

We love to have family gatherings around the fire pit, playing in the snow or hiking amongst the beautiful wildflowers. The Rainier Gondola at Crystal Mountain offers some of the most spectacular views of Mt. Rainier and offers wonderful dinner dining during the summer months. Take a beautiful, leisurely drive on the hundreds of miles of Forest Service Roads for spectacular views of Mt. Rainier.

Family trip - small kids, parents and grandparents

  • 5 of 5

This place was amazing. They thought of every last comfort and adorable decoration in the home and were incredibly nice to our entire family. My daughter LOVED playing in the teepee, big back yard, seeing elk multiple times a day and the giant fire pit with wood supplied! We visited the river, Naches Tavern and were about an hour from the breathtaking Paradise and Sunset Mt. Rainier main stops. There was also a playground, horses and basketball with balls supplied just down the street. And adults loved the hot tub!! We will definitely be back amd thank you for your kindness!

A very nice chalet in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed this nice place in the quiet, secluded mountains. We went for a walk in the morning and saw a herd of Elk up close not far from the chalet.

Cozy Convenient and Close!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful find! Every think you need an cozy to boot!! Just minutes away from the slopes of Crystal mountain, but even if we weren't skiers we would gladly go back. We had 3 of our adult children and their significant others with us. We took nice walks, mingled with the wild elk (although be careful the momma's are quite protective), hot tubbed, ate, drank and loved being in this very quiet and warm environment. You want for nothing...although if you have forgotten anything, the general store down the road is sparsely stocked!! The beds were so cozy, and the entire home was well equipped. We will definitely be back!! The neighborhood dog loves a good romp with the ball. He is usually out on the street if you want to take a walk! I highly recommend. Thank you for sharing your home with our family. Oh...not that his should be a factor but the wifi and direct tv were very good. We used it primarily to stream music on our computer but if you need it , it is nice and fast. See you soon!!! Karen and Mike.

Great for family getaway

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay for a family getaway in the cozy Elk Crossing Chalet. Bedrooms were comfortable, kitchen fully equipped, and the hot tub was a great bonus. The house has a nice comfortable welcoming atmosphere, and owners were responsive to questions and requests before our arrival. Having 3 separate bedrooms was fantastic for our family of 6 adults. We saw 3 elk the first night of our stay, and on the second day, enjoyed a great hike up to a waterfall near White River. We hope to return some day!

Very nice cozy small home

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I drove around NW Washington for a week, and enjoyed 2 nights at the Chalet as a very nice stop close to Mt Rainier. Scenic location near the Park. 14 Elk walked down the street,.. and kept going :) Owners very helpful. Nice hot tub. Wished we could have stayed a couple more day.

Mountain Biking Weekend

  • 4 of 5

First off I would like to say this is a great place to stay for mountain biking. It is centrally located near the trails and close to Greenwater if you need anything. The house is clean and cozy. The internet was incredibly fast especially considering the remote area. There was plenty of room in the Elk Crossing Chalet and would be ideal for 3-4 couples or 3 couples and one that has kids as one of the bedrooms has a queen bed and a double bed in the same room.

Two things I would note for anyone staying here: First off, while there is a fire pit with plenty of firewood, the fire pit is located on the side of the Eagles Nest cabin which is a smaller mother-in-law type unit above the garage on the same property as the Elk Crossing Chalet. We did not use the fire pit while we stayed there simply because of the awkward location. It feels like an invasion of privacy to the people staying in the Eagles Nest Cabin if you ask me. Especially if you don't know the people staying there (which we didn't and they had a small child).

The second thing to note is the shared hot tub with the Eagles Nest Cabin. The hot tub is located directly out front of both places so its a little more "common" area than the fire pit but ideally both properties (although on the same property) should have their own fire pit at a minimum. We did use the hot tub however and it was amazing!

It would be great if there was a big group occupying both places then it wouldn't be a big deal. But it's not ideal when you don't know your immediate neighbor (and by immediate I mean the two rentals are only a driveways width apart, i.e. maybe 30 feet).

I would also note if you are planning on cooking while you stay here (which I recommend because there's not really anyplace else to eat except the Naches Tavern which is great for about "one night out" at the pub so to speak - and its pricey for what you get) bring your own spices because the Chalet is out of pretty much everything including salt and pepper, coffee, sugar, etc.

I would definitely recommend staying here as a large group and renting both the Eagles Nest and the Elk Crossing together. It would be a super fun place to stay for a ski weekend or mountain biking weekend in the summer. We had a blast staying here for the weekend. Thanks.

Owner's Response: Paula, I'm glad that you had a nice stay at my cabin and hope that you will return. It is my goal to provide everything that you need for a great stay including plenty of firewood, spices, condiments and a fresh clean cabin and hot tub. While the hot tub and fire pit are shared with the other cabin, most guests do not feel uncomfortable and have even become friends over a campfire. I do hope that you will return with your friends again! Tamara
