About the property

Beautifully renovated riverfront mountain home in Chimney Rock/Lake Lure/West.NC

The River House is a large home located in Chimney Rock and is within walking distance of Chimney Rock Village, NC, the Chimney Rock State Park entrance, and beautiful Lake Lure, NC, where Dirty Dancing was filmed. The River House sleeps 18. We are located on Main Street in the village of Chimney Rock and our home sits on the Rocky Broad River. We have 4 decks overlooking the river and plenty of seating for a large group to dine/grill outside overlooking the Rocky Broad River. The River House can host large groups/families of up to 18 people (children/babies, seniors, and all age groups are welcome!) with lots of room for everyone to relax and enjoy the Rocky Broad River (you can swim and fish in the river right behind the house and there are plenty of big rocks to play on and/or lay out in the sun!) and all the fun activities nearby (ziplining, horseback riding, rock climbing, and hiking in Chimney Rock State Park, just to name a few of the activities) WHEN THE WHOLE HOUSE IS NOT RENTED, WE OPERATE AS A BED AND BREAKFAST. The River House is available to be rented out by a group/family and closed to the public when the whole house is rented. We keep the VRBO calender updated constantly so if the date shows available on this calender, it is available for your group to rent the whole house. If you have any questions at all or for more information, please feel free to call me on my listed contact number, 941-730-1183. If I don't answer, please leave a message and your call will be returned promptly!

This home originally belonged to friends who operated it as a Bed & Breakfast. They have since retired. (We originally stayed as guests in the 1980's). The B&B was sold twice, went into foreclosure, and sat vacant for four years. We were thrilled to be able to rescue the inn when my husband was serving in Afghanistan and have lovingly restored it. The restoration took ten months and we continue to work on it and make improvements every year.

We are offering the River House for rent for family reunions, get togethers, golf groups, women's shopping/antique trips, and more. If you have an idea for a gathering and need information about amenities, restaurants, activities, etc...please feel free to ask...we can help you plan an event.

The River House is built on the river with Chimney Rock in view from the deck. (The entrance to Chimney Rock State Park is 2/10ths of a mile from our front door. There are 3 stories of guest rooms and baths totally 9 bedrooms and 6 baths. The lowest level has three bedrooms, each with a private bath and a separate entrance to a deck at river level. The main floor at street level has a cozy living room with a fireplace, a kitchen and a 9 foot dining room table with lots of room for a large family. The kitchen and dining room each have double french doors which open to a large and spacious riverfront private deck. This deck has a large grill and has plenty of outdoor tables, rockers, and nine foot umbrellas that make it perfect sitting outside visiting and listening to the river below. The main floor also has a large master bedroom and bath. This room has a huge picture window and sitting area perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening while watching the beautiful Rocky Broad River out the window. The second floor includes five bedrooms and two bathrooms. Two of these bedrooms can be combined into a suite with its own door and bathroom. The other end of the hall has 3 bedrooms (2 you can open the windows and sleep with the sound of the river at night) and one bath and can be closed off as a suite.

The hardwood (heart pine) floors are original from the 1940's and were cut down across the river and floated over during construction years ago and are on all levels and have been refinished during the renovation of the property 2 1/2 years ago. The main floor living room includes a beautiful rock fireplace for chilly evenings. The main floor deck, accessible from the kitchen and dining room, overlooks the Rocky Broad River and sits beneath Chimney Rock. It's perfect for outdoor dining and relaxing after a fun day on the lake, hiking, cycling, or simply putting the computer and cellphone away and reading a book. Most families gather and visit out on this deck. There is plenty of seating and a large grill for feeding a large group. There are multiple views of the river and Chimney Rock from the bedrooms and decks of the RIver House. You 'll also enjoy the serenity and calming sound of the Rocky Broad River.

We have 6 bedrooms with king size beds, one room with two twin beds (they can be pushed together if necessary for a couple), and two bedrooms have queen size beds. Most of the bedrooms have a great view of the river and you can sleep with the windows open at night and hear the river outside your window. (We do have two very large central AC units though!) The kitchen has been renovated and has stainless steel appliances and reclaimed wood countertops. We utilized reclaimed wood throughout the renovation, including the fireplace mantle and the kitchen and dining room tables. The original heart pine floors are also restored to bring out the beauty of the natural wood grain. Concepts of reuse, recycle, and re-purpose have been incorporated to make our home as green as possible. We have also strived to make our home a comfortable and relaxing retreat and getaway! I always tell our friends and guests that there is more to do in Chimney Rock/Lake Lure than there are days in the week you will stay and it's true! I think our home is perfect for a large family reunion because if you have active parts of the family, there is a lot of fun things to do right at your doorstep and if you have older family members who prefer to visit on the riverside decks, they are happy, too! If you have any questions, no matter how big or small, please do not hesitate to email or call and I will get back with you as quickly as I can! Thank you for checking our listing and hope to see you soon!

P.S. If your group is larger than 18, we have another riverfront bungalow directly across the river (VRBO listing #694086) from the big house (RH) and friends with additional homes so we can help you with that!

About Rondi Jennings

We are a blended family of five with a mom and a dad and three college age sons. We have a spotted daschund named Bella who loves running up and down the stairs of the River House! My husband and I are high school sweethearts who reunited after 36 years apart. He has served our country overseas with his last tour of duty in Afghanistan ending in 2011. He is now retired from the Army and is working in Tampa, Florida. We plan to move to Chimney Rock and become fulltime innkeepers. We renovated this inn top to bottom and you can check out the 'before' photos on the Facebook listing, 'River House at Chimney Rock' or on our Pinterest Page...River House at Chimney Rock. I have recently added more 'before' photos. It has been a true labor of love to work on this charming home that belonged to my dear friends, the Shermans, and to carry on all the happy memories and see more families use and enjoy a home that means so much to me personally.

Rondi Jennings purchased this house in 2011

Why Rondi Jennings chose Asheville Area

We bought the River House because I used to live in this area year-round with my son and love the area and love all the activities it has to offer. I think it is one of the most beautiful areas in the country and I find it relaxing and wonderful to spend time there. I also love that there is something for everyone...activities for every type person from a hiker/boater/to a shopper/antiquer or a golfer or boater!

What makes this house unique

There are so many things to do when staying at the River House. You can go hiking (we have amazing waterfalls!)zip lining, white water rafting, inner-tubing down the Green River, rock climb, horseback ride, swim or fish in the river behind the house or you can just curl up riverside with a good book and then walk one block into town for dinner. Fill the days with activities or just relax and rejuvenate!

Elder members can relax on the decks of both homes and visit while the younger members have more activities available to them than time. There is Chimney Rock State Park, the beach and small waterpark at nearby Lake Lure, ziplining, horseback riding, swimming and tubing in the river behind our homes, rock climbing, boating, and hiking the beautiful mountains, and swimming in nearby waterfalls, just to name a few. Family Reunion vacation

  • 5 of 5

River House and Little River House properties were our family's "home away from home" for our reunion over Labor Day weekend. From the beginning Rondi was so easy to communicate with. She responded very quickly to texts/ emails and answered all our questions happily. Our group spanned 4 generations and everyone felt at home. The bedrooms were comfortable; décor was never "boring"-there was always something new to look at; there were areas for all ages just to "hang out"; between the large deck overlooking the beautiful river, the dining room and living room, everyone had a place to relax. The kitchen worked well for making meals together. The kids enjoyed the river, playing mini golf and hide and seek. Shopping and restaurants are very close by. The sound of the river lulled us to sleep and we dream of more fun times in N. Carolina. I would definitely stay in this VRBO again and recommend it to all my friends and relations. It was even better than the pictures.

River House, Chimney Rock/Lake Lure. VRBO #414879

  • 5 of 5

Our family annually takes a weekly vacation together. This summer, we were lucky enough to choose River House. It was absolutely perfect for our group. The whole time we were there I heard nothing but great comments about how wonderful everything was. The house almost

looks like a museum with the beautiful antiques throughout. We particularly noticed how clean, special and welcoming the historic environment was. The total accommodations exceeded our expectations. Rondi, the owner, made our stay there very enjoyable. She was available to answer any questions and she was very helpful in telling us about all the special places to visit. She and Jay know how to create a memorable experience that makes you want to return the following year and our group is already anticipating our return. In the eight years that we have been vacationing together this was the best of all. We highly recommend River House at Chimney Rock/Lake Lure.

Family Reunion June 24-July 1

  • 5 of 5

The River House, along with the Little River House across the river, were perfect for our family reunion. The rooms were excellent, the character of the place was as advertised in the pictures and the website. There was plenty to do in the area for the golfers to the river tubers to the hikers, all had a wonderful time. The kitchen, dining, and family room got tight when the full group was around (21-22), but early on when we were only 17 they worked wonderfully. A great week in the NC mtns!

Family Reunion Jul 2-9, 2016

  • 5 of 5

Our family gathered for a reunion and to celebrate my 80th birthday, they came from Ausralia, Boston, Salt lake, Perkasie PA and Davidson NC, and Hendersonville NC. We had 14 adults and one year old baby.Everyone agreed that the house was perfect. The bedrooms were comfortable and stunning, the dining room accommodated all 15 of us and the had all the utensils that we needed to prepare and serve our meals. We enjoyed hiking up to Chimney Rock, playing miniature golf right next door, sitting on the deck and enjoying the sight and sounds of the Rocky Broad River, We took cruises on Lake Lure , enjoyed its tennis courts and beach, played foot golf and zip-lined, and shopped in the stores. Rondi, the owner, was helpful and a gracious host. Great place for gatherings.

Wonderful B&B and can't wait to return

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience at the River House. My husband and I stayed for two nights to celebrate our anniversary. The owner and her husband had every detail covered to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Breakfast was delicious and our room was so peaceful with the sounds of the river outside our door. We can't wait to go back!

What a Fantastic time in a fantastic area!! My family and I had our family reunion and rented both houses to accommodate all our guests This was quite literally a home away from home filled with all sorts of amenities. Plenty of room, great view and Rondi was a dream to work with; extremely attentive to all our needs. Highly recommend staying here if you get an opportunity. You won't be disappointed!!

The River House at Chimney Rock is perfect for family reunions, business retreats, and other large gatherings. We are located near Asheville, North Carolina, home of the Biltmore Estate, wonderful restaurants, art galleries, and much more. For golfers, we have many golf courses near our property which enables us to host golf groups, too. Chimney Rock State Park is full of hiking trails and ziplining is nearby. Everyone in your group will find some kind of fun activity - even if it's sitting quietly by the Rocky Broad River. Please contact us for more information on these activities and much more.
