Shelton House Rental Photos and Description

Spacious 3 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom Home (Sleeps 11-12)

The Inn at Arkada is located on the Puget Sound at Arcadia Point between Shelton and Olympia. This area of the Sound is noted for its safe, calm water which is ideal for kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and boating. A nearby boat ramp (within 100' of the property) is convenient for launching your boat. The panoramic view overlooks Mt. Rainier, Hope Island (a state park with hiking trails and clamming in season), wooded Squaxin Island, and Steamboat Island.

This comfortable family/pet friendly 3000 sq ft home features 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, open, spacious living and dining areas, large playroom, well equipped kitchen and large deck overlooking the active waterway. Two bedrooms are situated on the main level, one of which has a queen and twin bed, and the other has one queen and one double bed. Each bedroom has a full bathroom. The third bedroom, with a queen bed, is located on the upper level. The upper level also features bunk beds, a sleeper sofa, a bathroom and a large play area with ping pong.

The property overlooks a working waterway with tug and barge traffic and shellfish scows. The waters abound with aquatic sea life and birds. Eagles and deer are frequent visitors. The beautiful private beach, low bank waterfront, calm water, amazing 180 degree view, comfortable living, and convenient location make the Inn at Arkada a very special place.

About Joan or Wayne Olson

Arcadia Point (aka "the Bay") is where our family has come to vacation and play for generations. While working, we enjoyed vacation homes here. After retirement, many moved here. We love this part of the lower sound so much that family members own 7 of the waterfront homes here! We swim, we ski and tube, we fish, we boat, canoe and kayak, we look for sea glass and play on the beach here. We enjoy the ever changing view, the sea animals and birds and the safe, calm water.

Why Joan or Wayne Olson chose Puget Sound

When 30 SE came up for sale we bought it and turned it into the Inn at Arkada. It is a rare and unique property, with a very low bank, spectacular 180 degree view, and only a few short steps to the water and private beach. When our own home is overflowing with family, we enjoy taking advantage of the additional space, privacy and fun the Inn has to offer.

Wonderful Gem!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful location with a home that accommodated our group perfectly! We had 6 adults and 2 children (both age 5) and there was plenty of room for everyone. We happened to stay on a weekend with temps of 96-97 degrees, so we were in the water a lot!! It was fantastic to have the air conditioner at night and when we needed to get out of the sun and cool off during the day. Although the home is dated, everything worked and was very clean. We loved the easy beach access and our boys were fascinated by all the boats and barges. Our first night, there was a gorgeous harvest moon and we had s'mores at the fire pit. This is our favorite home on the water now!! Needless to say, we'll be back...

Waterfront Gem

  • 5 of 5

This lovely property is perfect for a family gathering. The three children, aged 2 1/2 to 5 loved gathering shells, searching for little critters in the sand, watching the boats and boaters, and playing in the water. The adults enjoyed everything about the place, comfortable beds, quiet, and the terrific scenery while sitting on the deck supervising the children. The house is spacious and well appointed. The beach is sand and gravel and slopes gently toward a spectacular view of Mt. Rainier. We loved watching the boats come and go on the nearby boat launch. And finally, one of the best things about the Inn is the hospitality of the owners which even extends to providing beach toys, games, books and puzzles for the kids. It was perfect. We will be back!

Fantastic weekend

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a fantastic weekend at the Inn at Arkada... my two sons brought their families including five young children ranging from the ages of six months to six years... my ninety year old mother joined us... the children loved the beach... wading in the calm water... and loved to hunt for seashells... we roasted marshmallows for s'mores in the outside firepit... we all loved watching the seals/otters swimming and eating close by... and occasionally an eagle would fly down to grab a fish out of the water... the house accommodates a large group very well... we had additional family members join us on Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of room for everyone... there is no need to bring anything but your food and personal belongings... everything you need is available to you... I am very happy we chose the Inn at Arkada... we all took fabulous memories back home with us...

AWESOME WEEKEND

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic weather, views, and accommodations at the Inn at Arkadia. We stay in this area 2-3x/year and this is one of the best rentals we have ever stayed at. Owners were so easy to work with. Plenty of space for the whole crew and reasonably priced.

Our family had such a wonderful time at the Inn at Arkada! Wayne and Joan have a perfect place for families to get together. We were so delighted to not only have plenty of room and comfort for our large group, but a beautiful setting, and the house was delightfully decorated for the holidays! Thank you so much for making our Christmas absolutely fabulous!!!!!

A perfect vacation

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time to spend a week at The Inn. It's all we need and want for a family vacation including my 99 year old Mom to my cousins who drive over from Montana. Being on the water is what it's all about, watching all the boats coming and going kept us busy, and the deer all around us kept us in awe. This year we timed it perfect to have 2 pickings of the yummy blackberries growing wild all over. The Olson's are wonderful hosts and right there for anything one might need......thanks guys for another splendid stay.

Tribal Events

Special Local Events:

A special yearly event is the Squaxin Island Tribe’s Blessing of the First Salmon which is held on the beach right next door. This includes a ceremony followed by a traditional salmon, clam, oyster, and Indian fry bread feast to which the public is invited. This takes place in August before the Indian fishing season. During the Tribal fishing season, nets teeming with salmon are pulled onto the beach in front of the bulkhead. The Tribal Canoe Journey also takes place in August. Colorful Tribal canoes are launched from the adjacent beach, where local tribes begin their journey. Oysterfest in nearby Shelton is held in October. This event includes an international oyster shucking contest, great food, and entertainment.

Other year round nearby entertainment includes gaming and entertainment at Little Creek Casino and golfing at the brand new Salish Cliffs 18 hole course. Enjoy wine tasting at Walter Dacon Winery or purchase fresh local shell fish at Taylor Shellfish Retail Store, all just a few miles away. Boaters can cruise to nearby Percival Landing in Olympia for shopping and dining. Arcadia has become a popular spot for Kayakers who paddle Hammersley Inlet into Shelton on the incoming tide and back to Arcadia on the outgoing tide. Hope Island State Park, just across the bay, is another favorite destination with hiking trails and clamming in season.
