I've lived in McMinnville since 1994. The restoration completed on this home is an example of the design and remodel work that I now enjoy doing as a full-time business.
I have one son who's 12 and enjoy painting, kayaking, hiking, and watching my son's sporting events!
Shannon Thorson purchased this bungalow in 2004
I restored this 1912 house in 2004 and love each and every inch of it.
It's a pleasure to preserve it and offer it to new friends.
The house is so warm and cozy! I'm sure you'll enjoy going out for food and drink, but you can have an equally enjoyable time just hanging out with a great glass of wine.
Just wanted to say thank you, we had a wonderful time in McMinnville and the house was one of the big reasons why. Really cute and convenient. We actually spent a lot of time on the front porch just enjoying the sun and taking in the neighborhood. Hope we make it back again sometime.
Very cute home in a great location. It is on a busy street but the noise didn't bother us. We rented it for a bachelorette party. My one suggestion would be to add some full-length mirrors in the bedrooms - right now the only mirror in the house is in the one bathroom, and that can be inconvenient when 5 ladies are sharing the house.
Pros: very cute craftsman house with a nice kitchen. Nice walk to shops and restaurants. Very comfortable beds. Lots of parking.
Cons: 20 feet from the major arterial with no window or wall insulation, and hardwood floors that amplify ever footstep inside. Pocket bathroom doors that open on to each bedroom and don't shut tight so there is no privacy. No seating besides the sofa. Not a comfortable stay.
We went to wine country to celebrate my 60th birthday and stayed in Shannon's lovely little house, there were four of us, none a couple and it was perfectly
comfortable. There is only one bathroom though, so be aware. The ceiling are high and the hard wood floors beautiful and nice and squeaky. The kitchen was great - we ate in three of the four night we stayed. Would highly recommend a visit to Northwest Fish Co. in Newberg (tucked behind the church); salmon, halibut, smoked trout....everything super fresh. Baker Street is highway 99W and is busy but we didn't find it an issue at all, we loved sitting on the front porch in the late afternoon watching the world drive by. Walking to downtown is an easy few block with lots of options and a nice market on the corner a couple of blocks down. The Oregon Hotel is another recommendation as is LaRambla for tapas. I would highly recommend both the area and Shannon's house.

The cottage was very well appointed and cozy. The details that have been restored are fantastic and the upgrades especially to the kitchen are well done. The proximity to the main street was fantastic and allowed me to not have to drive and just walk through the adorable neighborhood. I did not notice any street noise but I'm also coming from Seattle, so for me it seemed very quiet.
When we came in the house I fell in love the character but as the saying goes, character and quaint can mean cramped and uncomfortable. Yes it is better than being in a hotel but I would have really appreciated locks on the bathroom doors on the Jack & Jill bathroom that connects the two bedrooms. We came with our very elderly parents (late eighties) and it would have been nicer for them to have a chair to sit on in the dining room than stools. There isn't really enough seating in the living room and in the second bedroom there is absolutely nothing to put your suitcase on other than the floor. The beds are very comfortable but the traffic noise is loud because of the original windows. As I said it's an adorable house but needs a little more to make us want to come back.
Awesome location, just a few short blocks from the adorable downtown main street. Cute, comfortable house with necessary amenities (sheets, towels, washer/dryer, hairdryer) plus a few bonus amenities (coffee maker, coffee, sugar, snacks, wine). Our group consisted of one married couple and three single girls, upper 20s through mid 30s. With use of the pull-out couch, we all slept comfortably. Shower coordination was necessary with only one bathroom connecting the two bedrooms, but we managed just fine. We were traveling for a friend's wedding which was hosted on a vineyard about 15 miles from the house. We also enjoyed a winery tour in Newberg and Dundee one day of our visit with travel service pickup and drop-off at the house (Aspen Tour & Limo, they were great!). The location proved to be great for both the wine tour and wedding. After the wine tour we walked to dinner at La Rambla (Spanish tapas, fabulous!) just a few blocks away and the morning and afternoon before the wedding we piddled around downtown McMinnville enjoying the restaurants and stores. The people I dealt with after booking the house were extremely helpful and accommodating. Weather was unseasonably hot (highs of low to mid 90s) during our stay so the house was got a bit warm during the day, but cooled off more than adequately at night. Road noise was audible, but did not bother us! Some of the bath and kitchen towels need to be replaced as they are carrying a moldy smell with them, but that would be our only real complaint. Otherwise, we were all very satisfied with the accommodations!
