About Shannon Thorson

I've lived in McMinnville since 1994. The restoration completed on this home is an example of the design and remodel work that I now enjoy doing as a full-time business.

I have one son who's 12 and enjoy painting, kayaking, hiking, and watching my son's sporting events!

Shannon Thorson purchased this bungalow in 2004

Why Shannon Thorson chose Willamette Valley Oregon

I restored this 1912 house in 2004 and love each and every inch of it.

It's a pleasure to preserve it and offer it to new friends.

What makes this bungalow unique

The house is so warm and cozy! I'm sure you'll enjoy going out for food and drink, but you can have an equally enjoyable time just hanging out with a great glass of wine.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted to say thank you, we had a wonderful time in McMinnville and the house was one of the big reasons why. Really cute and convenient. We actually spent a lot of time on the front porch just enjoying the sun and taking in the neighborhood. Hope we make it back again sometime.

Great location, but

  • 2 of 5

Shannon was quick to answer our inquiry and answer any questions. We arrived prior to check-in time, texted Shannon and she immediately replied. Information concerning check-in was available when I downloaded the "Home Away" app, and would suggest using it for any property.

The home was just as listed. We noted the concern about the busy street, but chose to stay partly because of the central location. It is walkable to the charming downtown McMinnville area. However, there were no "coupons for free wine tasting" as stated.

Kitchen and laundry areas were perfect and modern. However, the reason for the 2 star rating, was the temperature of the home. The windows are single pane, no screens. We stayed at Shannon's home July 24, when the high temperature was 95 degrees. The living area and front smaller bedroom face west. By 7pm, the temperature in the house was 85 degrees with the A/C on 68 degrees! My husband & I had a miserable night. The next morning the temperature was low 60's, but with no screens we didn't open the windows. We decided to leave and spend the next night somewhere else. Since we prepaid our bill for 2 nights stay and we stayed only one night, it was an expensive, miserable night.

Owner's Response: Dear Julie, Our team is very distressed that you didn't enjoy your stay in our home and dismayed that we're just hearing about it 6 weeks after your stay. We make great strides to communicate quickly (as you pointed out) and respond to the needs of our guests. The home is equipped with a heat pump with air conditioning and we would have welcomed the opportunity to have helped you with adjustment of its operation. Additionally, we would have been more than happy to assist you in locating the wine tasting materials you were seeking. Your mention of the window screens is much appreciated and we have contacted an installer to address this situation. With this home being in a downtown location, it's been our experience that individuals prefer to utilize the HVAC system rather than open windows but it makes great sense to offer this as an option for guests. Its heartbreaking we were not given the opportunity to help ensure you enjoyed your time in McMinnville but we do offer our sincere appreciation for the time you took to share and wish you the best with your future travels. Kind Regards, Shannon

Cute turn of the century home, restored with great detail. Super comfortable and charming!

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely and well maintained home. It's been charmingly restored with careful attention to detail. The house is comfortable and clean. As other commenters have indicated, the house does sit on a very busy street. The front bedroom is clearly nosier and less comfortable than the back bedroom. Parents traveling with small children would be well advised to put their kids in the back bedroom.

The reason this is a five star review is not because we were in love with the location - in fact, if we had it to do over, we would probably try and find something further out in wine country. This is a five star review because the owner, Shannon, is as professional as it comes. During the second night of our stay, we had an "issue" arise which as of this posting is no longer an issue. I won't go into details here - let's just say the second night was not great. That said, Shannon handled the situation beautifully in the aftermath. She refunded part of our second night stay and was extremely apologetic for the circumstances. We were thankful that Shannon has such decency and good business sense to think about her customers and guests first. Because of Shannon, I can strongly recommend this as a good option for a couple of nights while in Oregon wine country.

Cute wine country bungalow

  • 4 of 5

Very cute home in a great location. It is on a busy street but the noise didn't bother us. We rented it for a bachelorette party. My one suggestion would be to add some full-length mirrors in the bedrooms - right now the only mirror in the house is in the one bathroom, and that can be inconvenient when 5 ladies are sharing the house.

Owner's Response: Dear Eryn, Thank you so much for taking the time to offer your input. We're pleased you ladies enjoyed your time in wine country and hope you come back to see us soon! You suggestion about installing a full length mirror was helpful and we have gone ahead and taken care of this. Kind Regards, Shannon

The street noise cancels out the good stuff

  • 2 of 5

Pros: very cute craftsman house with a nice kitchen. Nice walk to shops and restaurants. Very comfortable beds. Lots of parking.

Cons: 20 feet from the major arterial with no window or wall insulation, and hardwood floors that amplify ever footstep inside. Pocket bathroom doors that open on to each bedroom and don't shut tight so there is no privacy. No seating besides the sofa. Not a comfortable stay.

Owner's Response: Wow! We're so sorry you didn't enjoy your experience at the Wine Country Bungalow. This is certainly not the sort of feedback we're used to. We're sorry you didn't enjoy the original 1912 hardwood floors, nor take advantage of the other furniture in the living room as shown in the photos. The windows are also original to the home and generally seen as a delightful feature. While the home is on a busy street we rarely hear complaints and do detail this fact on the listing. We do hope you were still able to enjoy your stay in McMinnville and wish you the best in your future travels.

We went to wine country to celebrate my 60th birthday and stayed in Shannon's lovely little house, there were four of us, none a couple and it was perfectly

comfortable. There is only one bathroom though, so be aware. The ceiling are high and the hard wood floors beautiful and nice and squeaky. The kitchen was great - we ate in three of the four night we stayed. Would highly recommend a visit to Northwest Fish Co. in Newberg (tucked behind the church); salmon, halibut, smoked trout....everything super fresh. Baker Street is highway 99W and is busy but we didn't find it an issue at all, we loved sitting on the front porch in the late afternoon watching the world drive by. Walking to downtown is an easy few block with lots of options and a nice market on the corner a couple of blocks down. The Oregon Hotel is another recommendation as is LaRambla for tapas. I would highly recommend both the area and Shannon's house.

Fantastic location and cozy cottage!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very well appointed and cozy. The details that have been restored are fantastic and the upgrades especially to the kitchen are well done. The proximity to the main street was fantastic and allowed me to not have to drive and just walk through the adorable neighborhood. I did not notice any street noise but I'm also coming from Seattle, so for me it seemed very quiet.
