North Hills House Rental Photos and Description

Guest House, 1 Bedroom; 1 Bath & day bed for 3 person. All amenities!

Permit #: 16-00136012

Casita de la Paz (the Peaceful Place) is nestled among the pinon trees in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This superb location provides both the serenity of a mountain retreat AND immediate access to downtown. It is one the closest homes you can get to the Santa Fe Ski basin - a 12 mile drive up through the Santa Fe National Forest.

Casita de la Paz is a guest home in an exclusive gated community and only an approximate 5 minute drive through lovely native landscape between Casita de la Paz and downtown Santa Fe (The Plaza area).

This 850 square ft. casita is a 1 bedroom/1 bath home. The bedroom offers a King bed. The bath is slate-tiled. Large windows with views of land and sky create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living. The open, light-filled great room has a Jenn-Air style kitchen and a dining area opening to a view of sunsets through junipers. From the great room, step out back onto a private outdoor deck with table, chairs and a grill—still embraced within this natural Southwest scape.

There is an additional 5-foot-seven-inch daybed in the living area. Other amenities include high-speed wireless access, Cable TV, A/C, and a washer/dryer.

Casita de la Paz is The Gateway to the best that Santa Fe has to offer. It's close proximity to the Santa Fe National Forest trail heads, the world-famous Ten Thousand Waves Japanese Spa, and the Santa Fe Ski basin will appeal to nature lovers and hikers. When you stay here you can easily enjoy the pleasures of both! The casita is actually only a 15 minute walk (1 mile drive) to the trail head of the Dale Ball hiking trails. These trails provide access to the network of trails throughout the Santa Fe National Forest.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I want to spend a few of my last minutes here at the Casita thanking you for all of your help in advance of my trip and your gracious flexbility when I arrived.

The Casita has been a sanctuary -- a place of gentle lighting, fluid design, and rich art and reads within. Nooks inside and out that allowed me to wander, sit, and get lost in books or thought. A warm rock, the hammock, the reading nook, the bedroom .... lovely.

Peace and easy, endless goodness...may they always be your companions.

Perfect vacation getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Casita de la Paz, and we found it just as wonderful as we did the first time. Though it is just five minutes north of the Plaza, the property is private, quiet, and utterly peaceful. The casita is in the Sangre de Cristo foothills, surrounded beautiful desert foliage-- piñons, junipers, silver olive trees, chamisa, and purple sage. Early morning coffee on the deck is lovely, with a bit of chill in the air. In the evenings, the spot is perfect for drinking wine, grilling on the barbecue, watching the clouds go by, and taking in the mountain views. Inside, the casita has everything you need....well appointed kitchen, washer/dryer, AC, comfy king sized bed, attractive furnishings. Richard, who manages the property, is helpful and attentive to all guest needs. We will certainly be back!

Perfect for my needs

  • 4 of 5

Pretty easy to get to; in a nice, secluded neighborhood; Nice, clean, neat - had a Euro-feel to it; kitchen was well-equipped; There are no window coverings in the bedrooms which, at first, feels a bit uncomfortable, but you get used to it since it is so secluded, surrounded by pinon pines and other scrub brush. Bathroom is nice, but could use counter space to put toiletries, but I just used the dresser in the bedroom. Hiking is pretty close, but the road to get there does not have a sidewalk nor is there much space on the side of the road to walk - the advantage, though, is that the road is not heavily trafficked. All-in-all a good stay.

Beautiful location, exceptionally quiet.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in June and really enjoyed our time in the casita. The location is so quiet, we could sleep with the windows open and not hear anything besides birds in the morning and the occasional coyote at night.

The property is quite well equipped. Plenty of cooking utensils are provided and I can't think of anything that wasn't there. It has a wonderful deck that faces north and is completely private. Note that you don't want to leave any food out. Ants will quickly find it (as we learned).

I didn't care for the standard pillows on the bed (too soft) but there was a firm pillow in the closet (note to owner, putting one of more of these in the bedroom might be good in case someone else likes a firmer pillow).

We were sorry we didn't stay in this casita for our entire trip to New Mexico and would happily return.

Quiet location but so close to town!

  • 5 of 5

This house has everything you want from an urban residence, but it is located in a quiet spot in the mountains that is very well communicated to the center of Santa Fe and other attractions in the area. On our next visit to Santa Fe we would love to stay here again!

Perfect for the active traveller

  • 5 of 5

We visit Santa Fe frequently in the winter and spring for skiing and hiking. This is now our favorite house - right off Hyde Park road, minutes from 10,000 waves, beautifully secluded, yet only a 5 minute drive from downtown. (It would be a very long walk, though, so a car is definitely needed.) The house is also just down the road from parking for the Dale Ball trails, so ideally located for hiking and biking as well.

The casita is lovely and modern, with many personal touches including a full bookshelf and quiet reading nook if you have a spare hour. The kitchen is well equipped with every convenience (except a dishwasher) and there is ample extra bedding for the living room futon - perfect for a couple or a small family.

Our only recommendation would be to add a shelf over the toilet, as there is nowhere to balance toiletry items while washing up.

This was a trip of firsts for me; first to Santa Fe, first time to use a VRBO, first vacation over Christmas. This casita is just truly amazing. The location of the casita is just right, being close to the downtown yet tucked away in the mountains for quiet. The casita experience went well in tandem with the whole Santa Fe trip; you are surrounded by art and nature. It was probably the best place to experience the full moon on Christmas. This will be my go-to accommodations for the next time we venture to Santa Fe.
