Rugged back country makes up the majority of this vast working Montana mountain ranch. An ELK Hunters Paradise & Outdoor lover's Retreat, located by Avon in the beautiful Garnet Mountains, it is 42 miles west of Helena & Canyon Ferry, 15 miles east of Garrison & Drummond, & roughly 40 miles south of Lincoln.

With over 12,000 acres to play on - this is a true outdoor recreation delight for Big Game Hunters (rifle & bow) with huge ELK herds, Trophy Muley Deer, Black Bear, Wolf & occasional Moose; also for avid horseman (endless mountain trails), nature lovers (watch big game & other Wild-Life, fields of colorful wildflowers, mountains, trails) , fisherman (fly fishing in our stocked reservoir), 'big toy' enthusiasts (4-wheelers in the summer, snow mobiles in the winter, over logging roads in the back country), snow-shoeing & cross country skiers (unbelievable views & endless roads). Also a wonderful place for a sabbatical, family reunion, or group retreat....a peaceful, natural setting for guests 'to get away'.

Enjoy the warmth of the wood fireplace in the Great Room, viewing the Elk trophy mounts on surrounding walls. The poker table corner is sure to delight those who enjoy a good card game, reminiscent of the old Wild West gambling days! Or step across the hall to partake in a game of pool. The large kitchen is great for entertaining large groups, with an attached sunroom & sauna.

This older ranch home offers lots of room to spread out with the Great Room, pool room, kitchen & office all on the main floor, along with the King bed Master Suite with double hide-a-bed & its own shower & bathtub. On the lower level you will find the Queen bed suite with shower & tub; bunkbed room, King bedroom, 5 single twin beds with 2 bathrooms adjoining the bath & shower.

Looking out the dining, sunroom & office windows, down the road is the ranch manager's house, with the corrals, barns & farm buildings of this operation. Cattle may be present in the corrals, depending on the time of year. With Mountain views of Helena National Forest to the west & Garnet Mountains to the east, wildlife is everywhere - an occasional fox or elk may stray cross the backyard hill! Treat yourself to a rugged Montana Wilderness vacation with over 10,000 acres to explore & come in at night to the comforts of our huge ranch house! Our property is great for your back-to-nature retreat, family reunion, nature exploration, big game hunting, bow hunting or fly fishing expedition. Close to mining opportunities by Helena.

2017 Archery Elk Hunt

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 4 had a nice experience on the ranch this year. Plenty of room to roam in the search for elk. The elk were fairly scattered throughout the property. However, through perseverance and many miles on the hills, we were able to harvest 2 bull elk during our bow hunt. The extensive roads allowed us to pack out both bulls in short order. The terrain allows for hunting of many different physical abilities. Although, for the best hunting, be prepared to hike some hills. During our hunt we saw a grizzly bear, a mountain lion and a wolf. The wolf was encountered at 14 yards during an elk stalk. Too bad we didn't have a tag for the wolf. The ranch house was spacious and comfortable. The security deposit was promptly refunded after our stay. Thank you for the opportunity to hunt and stay at the ranch.

Owner's Response: We were happy to have your group back for the 3rd year in a row, and again to see you group harvest 2 very nice bull Elk this fall!! The multiple Elk herds do move around, although this season most have been shot (by Bow) within 2-4 miles of the main lodge. Our Ranch is in the mountains with abundant wild-life of all types...wolf tags are available over the counter in our district. We take pride in the rugged terrain of the ranch - perfect for the avid outdoorsman & woman! We are glad you had such an enjoyable & successful hunting trip, and would love to have you back again next Bow season.

Everything you come to montana for

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at little valley ranch - lots of elk and other wildlife seen. Road system is great for access to different parts of the property. Great fishing in the lake. And the house was very spacious with tons of room for large groups. Very scenic property with everything you could ask for when coming to Montana for a ranch getaway. Definitely recommend!

Elk Hunt 2015

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time on our elk hunt at this rental. We had numerous close encounters with elk and although we were never able to harvest one, we had a fun hunt. The accommodations were very comfortable.

2015 Fall Hunting Adventure

  • 5 of 5

The Little Valley Ranch is all I had hoped it would be. What a blessing to get to stay for a week and enjoy a great hunting experience. There was no disappointment with any of it. The home, the lake fishing, the size of the ranch, the amount of elk . . . it couldn't have been better. The ranch owners were very hospitable and accommodating and made me feel welcome. I'm looking forward to going again in 2016. There were lots of elk but the hunt was still challenging, as I would want it to be. This year God blessed me with a 5 point bull elk so there will be lots of meat in the freezer for a while! All in all it was a great time. What a beautiful place!!!
