The General just outside the Garden District - walking distance from Pascal Manales Restuarant - 'Home of Barbecue Shrimp', Charlie Steak House, and a few minutes away from the finest antique shops that New Orleans has to offer, four blocks away from the Freret Street Festival (held in mid April), 3 blocks to view Mardi Gras Parades and a short lazy ride to the Audubon Zoo. The CBD and French Quarters are only 6-15 minutes away by car.
The General features three large full independent bedrooms, 2 full bath (shower and tub) and a half bath stocked with fresh crisp white linen and towels, two great rooms for entertaining or leisurely lounging; and a nice side and back yard for grilling or boiling. The General is located in a modest family, friendly, dog walking neighborhood. Come once and you will come back again. As we say in New Orleans, 'Laissez les bon temp rouler.'
Parking is available. This raised basement Katrina damaged home was newly renovated in time for Superbowl 2012 and Mardi Gras. It is minutes from excitement, dining, and tour attractions.
Also, the general is just blocks away from Atkinson-Stern Tennis Center. Opened in 1897, it was originally a private club operated by the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club. It is one of the oldest tennis venues in the United StatesIn 1973 the city of New Orleans acquired and renamed the facility as the Stern Tennis Center in honor of Edgar Stern, a philanthropist who contributed financially to the Center. Stern Tennis Center was expanded later in recognition of Nehemiah Atkinson, manager and talented player of the facility. For two decades, Nehemiah Atkinson coached at the tennis center and inspired many New Orleanians including African-American adults and children to play tennis.

We had a great stay at Steven's place. He was always available to answer any questions. The house fit 10 girls very comfortably! Would stay again or recommend to other travelers!
We had a wonderful weekend stay at The General house! We had a group of 11 ladies and we had plenty of room. The house has everything you need, and is secure with a security system. The home is a beautiful NOLA style home and is even prettier in person. The neighborhood is quiet and safe, as we walked a few blocks to many restaurants (Dat Dog, Sarita's, Freret St. Poboys and a ice cream place) down Freret St, and .5 mile down the road to the street car ($1.25 One Way or $3 Day Pass). Location is great, as we were able to Uber/Lyft everywhere. We had XL rides that would fit 6 in a vehicle, and it was around $15 each ride no matter where we went within New Orleans. The ride to the house from the airport is about a $50 Uber fare, but be aware that morning trips to the airport have high surge charges and can be expensive. If you are driving, there is available street parking but keep in mind the street is a one way street. Thank you Steven, we had a awesome time and highly recommend this property to others. We would stay again!
We had a wonderful experience at the General! Steven was the nicest homeowner, and I really enjoyed all of my experiences with him. He was the most gracious host, and he was very accommodating. The house, while older as is typical of NOLA style, is in great condition. Steven also has everything you could need: unlimited pillows, towels, water bottles, etc. I would highly recommend this house to anyone, and you can walk to the Garden District easily.
the pictures don't do this home justice! as soon as we arrived, Steven was there to greet us and show us around the house. it was GORGEOUS! we were there for Mardi Gras and the parades were within walking distance. we ubered everywhere else but couldn't ask for a better house for 6 girls to stay in. we each had our own beds and it was awesome having all the bathrooms to get ready in. the only con was there wasn't a full length mirror (which, as a female is needed) and to also watch out for parking violations. we parked in the driveway and still received a parking ticket b/c our expedition blocked the sidewalk. there is plenty of parking on the side of the street but the ticket cops are out in full force during mardi gras parades! I've already referred this home to another friend of mine who is planning her girlfriend's bachelorette! LOVED THE HOUSE! would def stay there again!
The home owner was friendly, accommodating, and this being my first VRBO experience, made everything easy. The house was clean, lovely, and very spacious. The best part about it though was the front porch, a great place for everyone to gather and socialize.
We rented The General for a weekend with the boys in September 2015. The place was nicely kept and clean. Plenty of towels and space for the gang. Porch was lovely and the owner was very accommodating. Easy check-in and check-out!
