The Lite House is a small, quality home with comfortable, high-end furnishings and appliances, in a private and quiet section of a gated community. This home is the perfect place for a couple who wants their privacy, and also just a bit of luxury. It could also accommodate a small family (four maximum). The queen-size, 12" memory foam bed has high thread-count cotton sheets for cool, comfortable sleeping. In the living room, the inner-spring futon converts into a double bed.

The Lite House is located at the far end of the subdivision, with sparsely scattered neighbors. It is touched on three sides by a fifty-seven year-old lava flow, which is now Hawaii State land as is all land newly formed by lava on the Island. There is nothing between the Lite House and the ocean but expansive lava field and horizon-to-horizon open sky. This combination allows for both unobstructed refreshing trade winds and exceptional privacy within this subdivision. It also showcases spectacular, panoramic sunrises and star gazing. Prior to the 1960 lava flow, the Lite House property was ocean-front. You might say that it is still an 'ocean-front' property, but now it's a quarter mile walk to reach the rugged shoreline (scroll down to see revealing satellite photos). The occasional dramatic crashing wave can be seen and heard from inside the Lite House.

From the Lite House, you can see the Cape Kumukahi Lighthouse in the distance. Its faint beacon adds nighttime charm while it monitors the cleanest air in the northern hemisphere blowing in from off the ocean. These pleasant trade winds are almost always present, and come right through the house when you have the doors and windows open. Enjoy being outside, any time, and with no mosquitoes! At night, the sound of occasional Coqui frogs is a distant and mild serenade.

Champagne Pond, the secluded, geothermally- heated cove exclusive to this subdivision, is a 4- minute walk from the cottage. Here you can snorkel with the sea turtles and fish, or simply float around on the calm, exceptionally clean and clear water. Serious lap swimmers have also found Champagne Pond to be quite suitable.

In the adjacent neighborhood are the Kapoho Tide Pools (aka the Wai'Opae Marine Preserve), known for world-class snorkeling. We provide basic snorkel gear and boogie boards for your use.

If you enjoy bicycling, we make two bikes available to explore this scenic area. The terrain is mostly level, and with very little traffic. Kapoho Beach is a very bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly community. The marine preserve is about a fifteen-minute bicycle ride from the house, or you may drive to the parking area and then walk the last quarter of a mile to it.

Note: We did not design this nice little house, but we named it the 'Lite House' because it is best suited for normal-size folks. Consequently, we regret that it may not be comfortable for 'extra-plus' sized guests.

I (Diane) am a kindergarten teacher having just retired. My husband, Richard, and I are looking forward to spending some quiet-time in Kapoho! We have family there, and look forward to when we can see each other any time we want, just by hopping on our bicycles. And I can't wait to take my air mattress down to Champagne Pond every day and float in the lovely, warm water with the turtles!

I shared this Lite House with my mom from the time we arrived on the evening of the 11th until now. This lovely home is ideal for quaint evenings in and walks in the nearby area (location is fabulous) & close enough to the beach/Champagne Pools but far enough from the city noise. I thank you for putting together this sweet, sweet place, we have enjoyed comfort and relaxation here at best. For guests to come lend your senses to the sounds of the ocean (we keep the back door open when we are home), the starry night-sky, the smells of native flora and vegetation around, and the sensation of the winds & breezes. What a gorgeous home & a delightful vacation here. My mom & I & father in heart have thoroughly loved it here.

Gateway 'exclusive' elegant paradise-lovely

2nd time to visit this incredible lovely cottage, amenities, peaceful, simply great!

Lovely, at end drive overlooks 'lava' field, a peaceful place...hear waves 24/7, sunrises special, stargazing amazing, a great lanai, the Kumukahi lite house see distances. A nice, unique community overall!

The ponds, bikes, appliance, charcoal grill...all incredible a 'cozy' stay!

We'll be back again, the 'lite-house'

Great location,very short walk to champagne pond.

Very peaceful getaway. Short walk to the beautiful champagne ponds and a short drive to the hot bath park. This home had everything we needed! Front row seat to a beautiful sunrise every morning! Close to nearby Pahoa which has incredible restaurants. We would come back again!

Clean, comfortable,

Our 2 month stay at the Lite House, " The Little Cottage By The Sea" , was a wonderful place to be. Very relaxing , equipped with everything we needed. Richard & Diane were so accomadating & made our reservation process so smooth. We loved Champagne Pond, the turtle, fish, & inviting warm water , perfect for snorkeling.

We hesitated to leave, wonderful time. Mahalo Richard & Diane

Quaint little peaceful home

This Kopoho home was perfect for our stay in the Puna area. We were within walking distance to our favorite Champagne Ponds, in a quiet little neighborhood. Situated right on the lava fields over looking the Pacific, we enjoyed the clean fresh air. I ran in the morning on the lava field roads and swam with my boys in Champagne Ponds, the Kings Bath and the Kopoho Tidepools. The Red Road is near by, and great food in Pahoa. Clean and well equipped, we found the home perfect for our needs. We cooked some meals and ate out some meals. Lovely stay, we will be coming back to stay for another holiday!

Nice cottage, location with all amenities provided!

Aloha! Just spent more than a week here. The Beers provided everything we needed including and much appreciated: liquid soaps, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, dish and dishwasher detergent, laundry soap, cooler, bikes, beach towels, rice cooker, coffee grinder, good pots for cooking, outdoor sink and clothesline, etc. We enjoyed the cottage and location and would recommend. Property is well maintained, bright, airy with 2 ceiling fans. The lanai is great for outdoor living. Owners are attentive if anything is needed.

Visit Kapoho Tide pools and Champagne Pond for great snorkeling and warm soak with sea turtles. Cajun Paradise Farms is owned by nice people and they have great food, coffee, smoothies, and home baked items as well as in season organic fruits and produce, honey and souvenirs. Lovely outdoor setting amidst gardens of rare and unusual hibiscus. Thai food is good in Pahoa and Sombat is great in Hilo. A couple beach chairs would be nice, aluminum, but we didn't need as we had much rain. Mahalo

Lite House is in a beautiful spot.

We enjoyed our stay in Kapoho Beach Community. It is quiet with very little traffic. The Champagne Pools are a short walk away. The Kapoho Tide Pools are a short drive from there. The house is well kept. The view is beautiful. The sun and moon rises over the ocean to the east. The Kitchen has everything(and more) that I needed to cook what I wanted to cook. The bed is super comfortable. We enjoyed our stay very much.

The Lite House is in Kapoho's private gated community, 29 miles from the Hilo International Airport. It is a 4- minute walk to Champagne Pond for floating/swimming/snorkeling with vegetarian sea turtles. Kapoho Beach and Kapoho Bay are also worth exploring and are a 10 minute walk across the lava. Wai'Opae Marine Preserve (aka Kapoho Tide Pools), with fabulous snorkeling, is a short bike ride or drive (2 bikes included for your use). The entrance to Volcanoes National Park is 40 miles, the lava flow viewing area is approximately 20 miles from the cottage, and Lava Tree Park is 7 miles. The historic town of Pahoa is 10 miles away, and Hilo (the Big Island's largest town) is 25 miles. Once outside the gated subdivision, take scenic coastal drives both north and south.
