Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom stone built cottage to sleep 4 in lovely location.

Garden Cottage is located on a quiet private driveway in the middle of glorious countryside. Despite its proximity to the busy mecca of St. Andrews , the cottage is very tranquil and well equipped. Good walks are available literally from the doorstep, and fine, sandy beaches are a short hop in the car.

The property is centrally heated with an open fire in the lounge for relaxing beside after a strenuous beach walk. The separate dining room with its bay window and patio style door gives access to the enclosed rear garden which plays host to an assorted variety of birds. The two bedrooms are very comfortable and equipped with duvets and electric blankets. The main bedroom has a king sized bed , whilst the second bedroom has twin beds.

The main bathroom was totally refurbished in 2010 to a very high standard, and the beautiful purpose built galley kitchen was installed in January 2011. A superb new wetroom off the main bedroom was created in 2012. Wi-fi access is free.in the cottage.

Golf: St. Andrews is renowned worldwide as the home of golf and plays host to the British Open Championship at least every 5 years, with the next Open being in July 2015. Although it is possible to play The old Course by entering the ballot for tee times, visitors may find it easier to book any of the other 6 courses in and around the town, all of which are administered by The St. Andrews Links Trust. Other famous courses within easy reach include Carnoustie, Craill, Downfield, Ladybank and Kingsbarns, plus a bewildering variety of many other fine links and inland courses, all within a 50 mile radius.

Visitor Attractions: For the historically minded, there are a host of visitor attractions within an easy car journey or train ride, including castles, National Trust properties, malt whisky distilleries and museums. The East Neuk of Fife contains a number of lovely old fishing villages, some of which are still landing locally caught fish and shellfish, whilst others are now thriving artist colonies. All of them have welcoming pubs and restaurants serving good local produce and excellent beer!

For the Children: Beaches, ice creams and wonderful fish and chips plus various visitor attractions like Captain Scott's ' Discovery ' and the Secret Bunker will keep them amused.

Since acquiring Garden Cottage in 2005, the owners have embarked on an extensive renovation programme, and in the last 2 years, the kitchen, bathroom and shower room have all been remodelled and finished to a very high standard. Even on the bleakest of days in midwinter, the cottage has a cosy welcoming ambience, especially with the log fire burning brightly and a glass of malt to hand!

About Ian or Carol Johnston

When Carol and Ian bought the cottage it had been utilised by the previous owners as one of their holiday letting properties. It is fair to say that back then it was in need of some TLC.

Since then Garden Cottage has been lovingly and sympathetically modernised to a very high standard, and the owners are delighted with the feedback received from the many returning visitors.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cottage is a beautiful place to stay, and we were amazed at how lovely it is.

A home from home, beautifully preserved in serene surroundings.

Notes:
Well equipped quiet cottage, with an open fire in the lounge and a lovely dining room with door to south facing walled garden. New(2011) fitted kitchen with small breakfast bar, and all modern amenities including a dishwasher, Hair dryer, cot and high chair available. Easy access to good walking and the many delights of St. Andrews and the East Neuk of Fife. Edinburgh is just over an hour by car and many of our visitors use the cottage as a base for exploring much further afield in Scotland. As will be seen from the reviews by guests, the cottage is very popular and we have a regular flow of repeat visitors. We really want all our visitors to derive as much enjoyment from staying in Garden Cottage as we do ourselves, which is why we endeavour to maintain the cottage and its facilities in tip top condition.

A cosy, welcoming and peaceful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Garden Cottage is comfortable and welcoming. We were particularly delighted with the unexpected "extras" - for example, supplies of extra towels, bedlinen, and even some cooking necessities like oil and salt!

The cottage has a sort of tardis effect - it is much larger on the inside than it looks from the outside, with comfortable and well furnished rooms. Everything has been thought of, and the peaceful and beautiful location simply forces you to relax!

We spent a lot of time out and about - there are some lovely walks nearby, and 3 Geocaches within half a mile of the cottage. St Andrews is very easily accessible by car, as is Kinshaldy Beach - well worth a trip for the beach and the forest walks.

Ian was in regular contact with us from our first enquiry, and couldn't have been more helpful - by the time we stayed at the cottage, we felt like we knew him, which added to the welcoming feeling of the place.

I would highly recommend Garden Cottage, and have every intention of returning!

Owner's Response: Delighted to receive this kind of feedback, although I have yet to establish the meaning of Geocaches! Just glad to know that we have them in such close proximity ( I think!)

Excellent cottage, beautiful location, tastefully decorated.

We had a wonderful week here. It is probably the best cottage we have ever stayed in over 40 years. I can't recommend it enough.

Garden cottage

  • 5 of 5

A delightful cottage about 12 minutes drive from St Andrews. Everything about the cottage was wonderful, a home from home. I had an injury before my stay and had to use a wheelchair and crutches indoors so I appreciated the wet room and the fact that everything was on the same level. This is not your ordinary rental property but a cottage that is used frequently by the owners so everything- furniture , utensils, toiletries was of a very high standard. We particularly enjoyed the wall garden to relax and the sun room. This was a great base to travel to the highlands. We would hope to return soon. Rosaleen Gilmore

This is a perfect retreat; private and peaceful and very comfortable. We had a real rest despite running after 2 toddlers.

A perfect escape.

Thanks Ian and Carol for sharing it with us.

Très beau Cottage

  • 5 of 5
