About Michael Johns

I live in Alabama, but North Carolina is my second home. I began vacationing to the area about 10 years ago while in college at Auburn University. Hiking, snow tubing, and escaping the hot humid summers down south were just a few reasons to start. As the years went by I became more knowledgeable about the area and shared the knowledge with family and friends. My family and I have been blessed with many wonderful memories in the mountains of North Carolina. We hope to have many more to come.

Michael Johns purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Michael Johns chose Asheville Area

I decided to buy this property because of the outstanding mountain views, beautiful cabin, and central location to many area attractions. No matter what time of day or season the view is always spectacular. One step inside the great room and I knew this was my dream cabin. All the beautiful interior wood from floor to wall to ceiling is very impressive. Also, the property consists of over 2 acres at the top of a mountain ridge. The property offers an abundance of privacy and is only a short few minutes to downtown Marion. (Just 10 minutes)

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is spacious, but cozy. It is decorated with casual elegance and the furniture has been chosen with comfort in mind. The cabin features three floors. There is one bedroom on each floor for maximum privacy. It is not only close to Marion, but to many other attractions like Pisgah National Forest, Lake Lure, Lake James, Mount Mitchell, Blue Ridge Parkway, local wineries and vineyards, waterfalls, tubing, kayaking, swimming, Chimney Rock, Biltmore Estate, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns, Boone, Blowing Rock, and more.

Great experience from beginning to end

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is wonderful! It felt warm and welcoming as soon as we walked in. Everything was clean and well-maintained, with a lot of extras we weren't expecting. All of the information available to us in the cabin regarding local sights, restaurants, etc, as well as instructions for everything in the cabin (tvs, appliances, etc), were very helpful. There were only 2 of us staying, but it is definitely roomy enough for a lot more people (sleeps 8). The location is great...so close to everything...downtown Marion, hikes, sights, and needs (groceries/gas)...but the best part is that even with the closeness of all that, all you have to do is step onto the back porch, and look at the mountains, and you feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere. It was so quiet and peaceful. We saw animals on the drive up the gravel road to the cabin (2 bucks and a bunch of turkeys), as well as bunnies hopping along the far edge of the backyard while enjoying morning coffee. The view is spectacular...watching the sun set behind the mountains every evening was great.

This is the first time we've rented a property like this (we are typically hotel people). We found the whole experience exceeded our expectations. Everything was simple and straightforward. Our host communicated all the information we needed via email (which we love), but provided his phone number, if needed.

We are very happy with our choice to stay at this cabin and plan on returning in the future.

The Ole Geezer trip

  • 4 of 5

My sister & my wife from K.C area & two of our cousins from GA visited for 5 days in early Oct. 2017.

The house was very nice. We had everything we needed. Beds are great. The house is clean & neat & in very good condition. Everything worked well. We had a fire in the pit & used the outside grill. Weather turned out better than expected. A good time for a group of 5 or 6 & maybe throw in a couple of kids, too.

The only critique is I would like a different toaster. And, The drive up is not for the faint of heart. It's steep, but manageable in good conditions. But, if there is snow on you'll need a four-wheel vehicle. If icy, you better punt!

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure hosting you and your family! Thank you for your critique. We have added a new toaster today to our full kitchen. The driveway is steep due to our mountain top location but the views are worth it. We do recommend to all guests during snowy weather to have 4 wheel drive and when icy conditions arise to use extreme caution. We like to have this info for all guests to read and understand in our rental rules agreement sent out before booking our lovely cabin occurs. Thanks again so much for taking time to review your stay! Best Regards, Michael

We had an amazing time at this cabin. The view was stunning and the property was clean and beautiful. The cabin is in a great location and allowed quick commutes to local attractions but still have us the getaway we were desperate for. Our kids were sad to leave as were we. We will absolutely be back!
