The 'Little House' is only 100 steps from the beautiful white sand beach in Waveland and is located behind the Big House. It is a 900 SF Mediteranean style stucco house featuring a clay tile roof and Mexican tile open deck. As you relax on the deck under the shade of the live oak tree, you have several views of the beach and a 300+ year old cypress tree.
Inside, the very open floor plan has ceramic tile throughout the house and many double windows to add to the open feel.
The spacious bedroom has a king bed and two large closets. The bathroom features an oversized whirlpool tub with ceramic tile enclosure and counter tops. The fully stocked kitchen has plenty of counter space and cabinets. The laundry room is equipped with a full size washer and dryer.
From this location, you can be in the New Orleans French Quarter in less than an hour. On the way to New Orleans, you can stop by the Stennis Space Center Infinity Museum that features science and space exhibits.
Traveling to the west on the beach road, you can visit the Waveland Public Pier for fishing and beautiful views of the water, stop by Buccaneer State Park for a little recreation and continue to the Silver Slipper Casino for a little gaming or eat in their restaurants.
Traveling to the east on the beach road, you will be in Bay St. Louis in about 30 seconds. Bay St. Louis 'Old Town' has restaurants, shopping, antiques, a coffee house, and bike and kayak rentals. Hollywood Casino that features The Bridges golf course is also located in Bay St. Louis.
This area is still rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina so it is very quiet and relaxing, but there is plenty to do and see!!
Guided fishing trips are available, but reservations must be made in advance.
We love living on the beach. We built the first 'Little House' in 1986. We were 'weekenders' for many years and dreaded going home on Sundays. When an opportunity came for us to move to Waveland permanently, we did!
Darlene purchased this cottage in 2006
When Hurricane Katrina destroyed the 'Little House' and the 'Big House' in 2005, we built the smaller house first so that my husband and I could have a place to live while we designed and built the big house. We lived in the little house for 4 years and rented it to a friend for a year.
It was sitting there empty, so we decided to list it with VRBO. We have used VRBO several time ourselves and liked it.
We like the personal contract with potential guests through e-mail and phone calls so we have chosen not to use the automatic booking. The personal touch means a lot when renting from an 'Owner'!
The house is only 100 steps to the beach and a great walking and bike path. The views and sunsets are great.
The convenient location is only 10 minutes to the restaurants and activities in Waveland and Bay St. Louis.
The house is spotless and is just as depicted in the photos. We enjoyed the view of the beach from the kitchen window, the porch and the side deck. As described, the beach is only 100-steps away, across a very sleepy 2-lane road. The beach is clean and quiet -- it is essentially your own private beach. The house has plenty of large windows, and is filled with ample light during the day. One morning, we caught a glimpse of a wild rabbit in the backyard, feeding on some berries. We felt like we were in our own private sanctuary, surrounded by oak trees and that incredible towering cypress tree, only 300-years young! Mother Nature was kind enough to save the thunderstorms for night time, so we opened the blinds, settled on the couch, and enjoyed a spectacular panoramic view of the lightning flashing across the sky and over the Gulf. We highly recommend McElroy's Harbor House Seafood Restaurant in Biloxi, and also the Blind Tiger in Bay Saint Louis. Both offer delicious food and waterfront views. We enjoyed our escape from the workaday world, and appreciated that our hosts were accessible and welcoming. Until we meet again, many thanks for sharing the Little House!
We spent a great week here. The house was just perfect for our family of 4. Steps from an uncrowded beach with great sand for sandcastles, just what we were looking for! Also had a great time visiting some nearby attractions. One day it rained and the owners of this house were so kind to email and suggest indoor attractions close-by that would be great for our small children. What a relaxing week, can't recommend highly enough.
We spent a wonderful weekend at this perfect cottage. We were steps from the beach (like advertised) and seconds from the quaint coastal town of Bay Saint Louis. This was the perfect retreat from reality. Like the other reviews, I don't want to gush because I feel like this is a gem that I don't want to share!!! Great communication and wonderful hospitality by the owners! Words cannot express what our weekend at the "little house" meant to our family. It was the perfect ending to summer vacation; thank you!!
This "Vacation Beach" getaway is perfect for our family. As stated by others, the beach is not crowded, on several occasions we were the only ones out there. My grandsons love it and the peace and quiet both on and off the beach is wonderful. Close enough to Gulfport and Biloxi if you decide to make a trip. We try and come here every year for a visit and miss it if we don't. The owners make you feel at home and have made a true friend out of my oldest grandson. He is ready to go back and we just left last Sunday. Thanks again for your hospitality. Ken
My husband and I have just returned from staying five nights in Waveland. I highly recommend this lovely home. The location is perfect and it is quite and peaceful there. The house is perfect. I have stayed in other homes using vrbo and this one is one of my favorites.
We just returned from our week long stay at the "The Little House". We enjoyed our time there and the beach was so close and we loved just walking across the street and going straight into the Gulf. The beach was nice and the white sand is what we were wanting. This is the perfect place to go if your looking for peace and quiet, no crowds to deal with and thats what we were looking for during our beach time. Plenty to do as we went to Stennis Space Center and took the tour (Well worth it) then to New Orleans for the afternoon. Make sure you go the "Ship Island" and spend the day, we observed several types of fish, stingray and dolphins. The restaurants were fine and driving around Bay St. Louis was enjoyable. The drive along the beach all the way to Gulfport was nice and short. The owner's (Darlene and Henry) were very nice and gave us plenty of information on what to do and where to go. This "Little House" was very nice and up to date and we could see the water from the kitchen window and sitting on the wrap around porch was enjoyable as we had lunch out there several day's. I would recommend this property to anyone and we plan on returning there.
