Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This treasure is unmatched for a traditional retreat to the beach. A mile south of downtown Cannon Beach and less than a city block’s walk to the sand, you can enjoy easy access to whatever your heart desires.

The Horner Beach House was built in 1928 to take advantage of the best view of Haystack Rock and the Needles. One of the original homes on the hill, the view includes an expansive panorama of the ocean as well as easy access to the beach. The house has just undergone an extensive remodel, preserving the beach cottage ambiance while ensuring that modern amenities make your experience comfortable.

There are several nesting pairs of bald eagles living in the hills behind the beach house. They fly directly overhead on their way to hunt on Haystack Rock. A fantastic spectacle! Haystack Rock is the best place on the coast to see Tufted Puffins from April to August. The Rock also hosts breeding Western Gull, Pelagic Cormorant, Pigeon Guillemot and Black Oystercatcher, Halequin Duck, Brown Pelican, and Peregrine Falcon seen in summer and Greater Scaup and Surf Scoter in Winter.

About Peggy Amato

When we were kids we used to go to Cannon Beach because our neighbors had a house there. Relatives from North Dakota were treated with trips to the beach whenever they visited. After the death of our father, our mom bought this house in 1974 looking forward to spending her retirement at the beach she so loved. It was a favorite spot for family and friends alike.

Mom wanted to share this beautiful spot with friends and began renting. We are happy to continue making the house available for others to enjoy.

Peggy Amato purchased this cottage in 1974

Girls Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We came on a Friday evening and left on Sunday morning in December and were blessed with the most amazing weather. We even ate lunch outside at one of the restaurants in town.

That aside, the house was wonderful. Clean, well maintained, warm, and cozy. I would definitely recommend this house to others, and will probably be back some time with my family.

Thanks Peggy!

Excellent location and owners are great to work with!

  • 5 of 5

My little family had an excellent experience renting this adorable home. The location was great with an amazing view of the haystack and a very short walk to the beach (down a small path between two houses.) Owner was very sweet and returned our deposit promptly after our visit. Perfect for a family getaway!

Wonderful vacation home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the beach house. House is very well appointed. Little things I always appreciate are soft towels, good water pressure and hot water in the shower lots of extra blankets. There were a couple extra space heaters too if you get cold easily like I do. The kitchen had everything we need to make a nice Italian dinner. We rented a couple movies from the local Mariner market. Enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at the Lazy Susan. The location is perfect, amazing view of Haystack rock and steps from the beach but just a few minutes into town. I would definitely stay there again!

DELIGHTFUL!

  • 5 of 5

Delightful in every way! From the carefully manicured yard, to the well appointed kitchen, and everything in between, our stay at Villa Horner was a delight. What a wonderful and well cared for little cottage. The location is just a stone's throw from the iconic Haystack Rock, and the view from the cottage is breath taking - AM or PM. Peggy and her family have painstakingly restored and maintained their childhood family cottage and it is the perfect place to stay for some rest and relaxation. We lacked for nothing during our visit. Surrounded by lovingly preserved and framed family artwork and artifacts, before our stay was completed, we felt as though we were part of the family. Thank you for allowing us to become part of the history of Villa Horner. We can't wait to return.
