Guestbook comments from the manager

I am the owner of All The Family and am very sorry my guest had a bad experience. I only wish they had let me or Mrs. Pat know of any issues right away. I was unaware that the tropical storm had damaged the upstairs balcony screen door and outside rocking chairs. I was also unaware that the previous guest broke several items in the home. The lady that cleans my home is very professional, but did not notice these issues. I also would like for all our guest to know that we spray for insects very often - being at the beach this is a must. The one picket that was missing has been replaced - the yard is picket fenced - a small dog should be kept inside or on a leash when unattended. We have nailed in the few nails that were showing - the storm moves the dock. Please know that my family enjoyed this home for many years and we want all our guest to experience the joy and happiness of being on Holden Beach. Concerns will be addressed with professionalism and I only wish the guest that had issues would have treated me with the same professionalism to notify me of their concerns.

A great vacation house

  • 4 of 5

OK first, this is not an actual VRBO property. The actual rental is handled through Holden Beach Properties. Not a big deal, but if you are looking to avoid having to wait with everyone else at check-in/check-out, etc. you should know it is not a vrbo. That being said, we had no issues. We arrived a little earlier than the check-in time, but the house was ready so we were able to get in.

I was a little concerned because of a previous review, but we found the house to be perfect for us. Yes there were a few minor maintenance issues - a few nails that needed to be hammered back in on the deck and a couple of slats in the upstairs deck that needed replacing - but overall we had a great stay. There is plenty of room for everyone to spread out and not feel like you're all crammed on top of each other. Beach access is just a house away. The yard was perfect for our dogs to run around in and the dock was great, even though we didn't have a boat. My husband enjoyed fishing from it daily.

Overall we really enjoyed the house and will definitely rent it again next year!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed our home! As I stated in our write up I am way too busy to handle my guest all by myself so my friend Mrs Pat does my payments, keys, and handles any issues that may arise. I think this gives my guest a great deal and personal attention😀.

All the family: should not come.

We were hoping for so much more....our family uses VRBO 5-6 times per year, and this house was the worse experience in our 5+ years utilizing VRBO. Upon arrival, dead bugs were scattered throughout the first floor...so the first thing we did before unpacking was clean. After unpacking, an older adult and child were both surprised when they sat in rocking chairs on the front porch that were broken. Sadly, they landed hard on their bums. No serious injury occurred. The first night there, a storm was brewing, the upstairs bedroom with the balcony, the storm door slammed all night long. It sounded like a backfiring car...all night. It's busted and doesn't shut properly. The oven door is broken, and twice we burnt food because we couldn't open the door to get our food out. Again, no serious injury. There is not enough outdoor furniture to accommodate a family who was clearly under the maximum capacity. The fenced yard is great for dog friendly families. Be cautious of the recliner...it's broken, too. Again, no serious injury. And if your taller than 5'5, take a bath...you'll hit your head on the shower. And don't shower at the same time if you need enough water pressure to rinse off. And if you have a skinny dog, be cautious, they can slip through the broken pickets of the fence. And beware of the nails on the way to the floating dock. They told us when we turned In the keys after our stay we should have called them, they would have had someone come fix things. Yes, that's exactly what we want, a handyman working on our rental that should have been ready well in advance of our arrival. No, thank you. We won't be back.

Owner's Response: I am sorry that our guests were disappointed. If they had only let me know I could have addressed the issues the very same day! Prior to and during the guests stay, we had had a storm, the damaged door was repaired and 4 new deck chairs were purchased and placed on the deck. We furnish more chairs under the decking for grilling and shade. The oven door was undoubtedly damaged by someone and we have since placed a brand new oven in the kitchen. Recliner was checked and works fine. Our home is older and has been remodeled, but bathroom showers are standard. Water pressure comes from the county – we have never had a problem with this for ourselves nor our guests. We do have 2 showers in the home's baths and 2 more outside. The storm caused insects to enter, if we had known we could have taken care of the situation immediately. Please know my family lived here for several years before we wanted to share this wonderful experience with others. We take pride in our home and in our service to our guests! If there is ever a problem we will definitely address it. We want our guests to make memories that will last a lifetime. I also ask my dear friend at a local agency to help me take extra care of our guests since I am sometimes unavailable. That way our guests are never unattended. Our home is named All the Family – because the family is so important to us!
