Enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding Twin Oaks nature preserve on our wraparound mahogany porch in this 5 BR, 3Bath, adirondack-style country home. This lovely, secluded country retreat is just minutes from the MetroNorth station at Wassaic, so a very easy commute back to NYC. Also, just minutes from Hotchkiss prep school, Lakeville, Lime Rock and the Mudge Pond town beach. One master bedroom and two other bedrooms on the second floor, two on the first floor and a fully finished basement with lots of sleeping capacity and a 52 inch rear projection tv.
Keywords: Beatiful country home with wraparound porch to enjoy spectacular views of nearby mountain range. Amenities include a true chef's kitchen, updated baths, office, yoga room (can serve as bedroom), large family room and a wrap around covered deck. Large sleeping area in walkout lower level. Viking and SubZero appliances. Minutes from quiet town beach, Hotchkiss, Lakeville, Lime Rock.
My wife and i bought this house because we fell in love with the area (Sharon/Lakeville/Millerton) and loved the feel of this adirondack-style house with all the modern amenities (it was built in 1996). We spend hours on the wraparound porch just savoring the pastoral views. Our kids love the privacy but also the quick access to local beaches at Mudge Pond and Lakeville.

My wife and i chose this home as a future retirement location. We are very active outdoor types, and we fell in love with the proximity to biking, hiking, and lake activities. Also, there is an abundance of great antiquing, dining options and charming litte villages like Millerton, Salisbury and Lakeville. Lastly, winters are just as fun, as there are three ski resorts within a 30- 45 min drive (Catamount, Butternut, and Mohawk Mountains) and plenty of cross-country skiing.
Our house offers a very secluded setting with great views of the countryside, the perfect place to relax and unwind. There is a big lawn that is great for letting kids run around safely. Probably the thing most people like is the large chef's kitchen with an open layout - perfect for entertaining and cooking!
We traveled far and wide from across the globe for a wedding in peak leaf season. The house and location couldn't have been any better!
For six adults we couldn't ask for a better house in terms of rest and relaxation!
We were pleasantly surprised when the owner called us the first evening, just to check in and see if we needed anything else. He's been great to work with!
The kitchen is well appointed with everything a chef could need. Just bring a deck of cards, your own food & drink, and toiletries, and you're good to go!
Groceries: We'd shopped at Costco in Hartford, but later realized that almost everything we could have wanted was available at the local grocer just down the road. While a little more expensive than shopping in a major city, when you figure the cost of time and gas, the local market is a bargain. They even have a sushi chef making a fresh selection daily! You'll likely run into one of the many down to earth celebs that live in Sharon.
The girls walked down to the local salon for mani-pedis ($40), and raved about the service and prices.
If you're lucky, you'll get to see tons of wildlife on and around the property. We were greeted numerous times by two families of deer, rabbits, and countless birds and owls.
The walk to the beach was beautiful! Be sure to pay attention to the beautifully hand carved gates at twin oaks! You can't see the gates from the house, but you can see the oaks!
Being out in rural CT, the cell service is limited. If you have a wi-fi enabled phone you'll be fine since the house, and most of the neighbors have wi-fi. If you don't, you may want to add Google Voice or another wi-fi phone service to your phone before heading out into rural America.
Be sure you check out the local towns, parks, and hikes! They are all stunning!
Kent: If you head to Kent, be sure and check out Kent Coffee (by the tracks), if for no other reason than to drool over their chocolates! The coffee shop on the other end of town may get more advertising, but don't fall for it, you'll only find tourists and bad coffee. Weekdays are the best.
Kent Falls: go on a weekday! The walk to the top is just that, an easy walk! While a WC or stroller may not make it all the way to the top (OK, they won't), there is still plenty for them to see.
Lime Rock: Go on a weekday, late afternoon. Since they were done with their official activity for the day they let us in for free and "explore", even letting us drive on the track!
I rented this house with a group of friends for a holiday gathering. The house is very spacious and comfortable, stocked with everything you need. Fantastic kitchen for cooking and socializing. All bedrooms are comfortable and there's plenty of extra blankets, linnen etc. Great rec room in the basement, which turned out to be the hangout of the kids. The owner is super nice and accommodating, even had cookies for us uppn arrival! Highly recommend this rental.
We stayed here to ring in the New Year with a group of friends and had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful, comfortable, and in terrific condition. The layout was great for the adults and our young children. Kitchen is well stocked -- we had several delicious big meals, living room is cozy with a nice fireplace, beds are all super comfortable, and basement rec area is a perfect spot for kids to play and watch movies. And the view and surrounding area is gorgeous (we hiked in the Audobon Center which is a special place). The owner of the house is super lovely, helpful and very responsive. Hope to stay here again soon! Fully recommend!!
The perfect place for a weekend stay! We stayed here with some of our family while we were in town for a wedding. The property is beautiful and well maintained. The pool table was a favorite among many people. We have children and they loved the swing on the deck and running in the yard. Wish I could have stayed longer.
Myself and a group of Mom's and Daughters when for a Weekend retreat and we were Blessed beyond our expectations. This home is beautifully done and in a very peaceful area. We had a wonderful time going for walk and just spending quality time with our daughters. The kitchen was lacking nothing and the rooms were so cozy! We are planning a return trip very soon!!! Would recommend this home to anyone!!!!!!!
We had a large group and the home was supplied with everything we needed. There were plenty of linens and towels so we didn't have to pack our own. The kitchen was well equipped and the location was quiet and serene. We also loved the wrap around porches and the fireplace. The owner was very accommodating and easy to work with. We would definitely recommend this home!
Very near Mudge Pond, in close proximity to beautiful Lakeville, Lime Rock, Millerton, Amenia, and Hotchkiss and Salisbury Prep schools. Just minutes from the Lion Rock Farm wedding venue in Sharon. Minutes from Mudge Pond Town Beach and Lakeville Beach. Half an hour from Catamount and Butternut ski areas. Great biking, canoing and kayaking all over the area.
