About Evelyn Santamaria (owner and caretaker)
With our children grown, we wanted a place in Costa Rica. Of all of the places that we have traveled, none have appealed to us as much as Costa Rica. When we come to Costa Rica, we sometimes stare at one another and declare, 'We just love it here.'
Evelyn Santamaria (owner and caretaker) purchased this House in 2007
Why Evelyn Santamaria (owner and caretaker) chose Monteverde
We had traveled many places, but the beauty of this place and the warm friendly people drew us like a magnet. We went to spanish immersion school here and have developed our many 'Tico' friendhsips.
What makes this House unique
We have caretakers who live in a casita on the property and who can direct you to the best attractions/restaurants/hikes in the area. Our caretakers have become part owners and are dear friends. Evelyn is a chef and can also make tipical Costa Rica breakfasts and dinners for you in the house. We have developed a number of friendships, some with other foreigners but mostly with Ticos. It is an easy country to travel in. Dollars are accepted everywhere and in most places English is spoken. The forest across from our property is known for the variety of birds and traveling troupes of monkeys.

Spacious, well located, but a bit noisy.
This was a nice clean spacious property in a good location to access local attractions. But i am unable to give it five stars because 1) it was noisy at night and early in the morning. Dogs howling, wind blowing, people hammering metal, the industrial mixer whining. I didn’t get a decent nights sleep the entire stay. Also, the shower ran out of hot water ( which was never really hot) in a few minutes. With a family of four this meant some cold showers. Finally the towels were worn and stained. Just not up to five stars. The on-site caretakers were responsive, but things like extra toilet paper and trash bags should have been pre-stocked.
Spacious and immaculately clean house
For a traveling family or small group of friends spending several days in Monte Verde, this house would absolutely perfect. It was maybe not the most efficient choice for my mom and I, given that it is on the far side of Santa Elena and we only had 1.5 days in MV so every minute counted. The wind noise kept me up the first night, but was fine the second night (nothing the property owners or managers can do about it, I'm sure you'd encounter it anywhere in MV but it's something to be aware of). Once Leo and I connected on Whatsapp it was very easy to communicate our questions and ask for help when needed, and Leo was very helpful!
Beautiful countryside and cool comfort!
We loved our short time here. A little hard to find at first, but worth the search. The bird viewing from the porch was wonderful!
We went for a 4 mile run through the hilly countryside, it was so beautiful and quiet.
We loved little Bobby and the bananas in the courtyard, also the horse that drifted by our porch during breakfast.
Hope to stay again.
Lovely place in the mountains with beautiful views!!
We enjoyed our stay in Monteverde. The villa was close to both the Monteverde and Santa Elana Cloud forests. It was clean, spacious and had incredible views. It also had lots of wind but that is typical of the area. I would recommend visiting Santa Elana, eating at the Orchid Restaurant, taking a night hike ( you can book through Evelyn) and spending a day at the Monteverde Cloud Forest. We loved our experience here. Evelyn was very friendly and accommodated our every need. It was a vacation that we will long remember!
Paradise above the clouds!
Our stay in Monteverde was made soooo much better by the rental of this home. IT is very beautiful with comfortable furniture and only a 2-3 minute drive from the heart of downtown Monteverde and Santa Elena. The house featured three comfortable bedrooms, 2 spacious bathrooms and a full kitchen, living, dining area with a covered patio for enjoying the afternoon breeze. The weather at this elevation is fantastic year round and the house has many windows providing for a great cross breeze.
The house was super clean and the owners couldn't be nicer. This home is attached to the owner's home and they are very attentive to their guests. They also happen to run a fabulous cafe in the main plaza of Monteverde! They provide on site meals if desired (breakfast/dinner) and can help arrange activities if you need them to. They also provide laundry service on-site. We used them and they did a great job with our clothes. This allowed us to pack light for our trip as they were our 2nd of three stops. We felt right at home and we are sure you will too.
Monteverde is a great place. There are plenty of excursions available including hiking, ziplines, horseback riding, ATV tours or just general loafing around. The restaurants are varied and the food is great. One of our favorite activities was finding a restaurant each evening from which to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the gorgeous sunsets. If you are planning to go to Costa Rica, Monteverde should be on your list!
Roomy House but Minimal Privacy
Our family of five fit well in this two-story home which was about 5-7 minutes from town. The 3 beds were very firm and I believe Full size so sleeping room is a bit cramped for couples. The odd part of our four-night stay was the fact that there was a narrow courtyard between our home and a 2nd attaches bldg where the owners stayed during our visit (I assume they typically live in the main house when there are no guests). However, the double window above our kitchen sink had NO curtain and faced their front door which they left open most of the time. This allowed for minimal privacy as they were going in and out, often waving at us through the window. The owner has a bakery in town called “Evy’s” but we did t make it there. Location is excellent for the drive to Selvatura Adventure Oark as we went there 2 days.
