About Evelyn Santamaria (owner and caretaker)
With our children grown, we wanted a place in Costa Rica. Of all of the places that we have traveled, none have appealed to us as much as Costa Rica. When we come to Costa Rica, we sometimes stare at one another and declare, 'We just love it here.'
Evelyn Santamaria (owner and caretaker) purchased this House in 2007
Why Evelyn Santamaria (owner and caretaker) chose Monteverde
We had traveled many places, but the beauty of this place and the warm friendly people drew us like a magnet. We went to spanish immersion school here and have developed our many 'Tico' friendhsips.
What makes this House unique
We have caretakers who live in a casita on the property and who can direct you to the best attractions/restaurants/hikes in the area. Our caretakers have become part owners and are dear friends. Evelyn is a chef and can also make tipical Costa Rica breakfasts and dinners for you in the house. We have developed a number of friendships, some with other foreigners but mostly with Ticos. It is an easy country to travel in. Dollars are accepted everywhere and in most places English is spoken. The forest across from our property is known for the variety of birds and traveling troupes of monkeys.

Local flair with great neighbors
This beautiful home near Monteverde was huge, comfortable and gave our family the opportunity to spread out. We loved cooking in the kitchen, reading books in the living room and meeting the neighbors/caretakers, Evelyn and Guillermo. They were the highlight of the rental and I wish I spoke more Spanish and had more time to learn their story. I had read the reviews about the wind and thought I could handle the noise but I was unprepared for how loud it would be! My 9 yo son kept asking if we were in a hurricane. I tried earplugs but still slept awful. If you are a sound sleeper, this is a gem of a house!
Great stay in Monteverde
We enjoyed the warm hospitality of Evy, Guillermo and Josline . The house is very spacious, comfortable, clean and has everything you need. Nice to be just outside of busy Santa Elena. Guillermo arranged a guide (Jorge) for a tour of the cloud forest, which was great.
Great experience ....lovely food from our welcoming hosts
Perfect house but windy
The house and host was perfect, super clean and really confortable. The only problem was the wind, it is so windy that You need earplug on night because it is too noisy too sleep. Except that, it was perfect, near too town, beautiful view on montait, super and big house, really Nice.
Unmatched Hospitality at a Beautiful Home
Beautiful spacious home. For us though the hospitality of Evelyn and Guillermo really pushed this rental over the top. We only had one night in Monteverde but were able to fit in a night tour and zip-lining adventure. Evelyn helped us to book and set up the bus pickup. Guillermo did laundry for us that night, made us breakfast in the morning, and even gave us some good-bye pastries. Really none of though I struggle to truly capture the joy of just interacting with them. Great people!
Beautiful house and great hosts
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It's in a good location - close enough to town and Monteverde but in a quiet setting. Evelyn was exceptionally helpful, and was able to deal with our limited Spanish speaking abilities to offer information and suggestions. She arranged a guide for us for Monteverde that was the best we had anywhere in Costa Rica (and all of them were good!). The windows rattle if it's windy, but the house was comfortable, clean, and well stocked in every way.
