Wonderful farmhouse nestled into the Tuscan hills
We spent a week at this property and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The property is a portion of a large stone farmhouse situated at the end of a gravel road surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. It is one of a small cluster of 2-3 (?) houses. The surrounding 2500 acre Villa d'Arceno district is protected and dotted with approximately 20-30 farmhouses. The nearest one outside our compound was approximately 500 yards away.
The apartment is situated over two floors, and each floor has a full bathroom. The kitchen is well appointed and has everything you need to cook meals if you want. The small coop (grocery) in Castelnuovo is less than 10 minutes away and will have what you need.
The entrance to the property is surrounded by a tall hedge giving privacy from the neighbors. Inside is a beautiful garden with roses, day lilies and other flowers. Spectacular!
The two-foot-thick walls ensured we never heard anything from the neighbors. We loved the total silence of the place. No traffic noise, no neighbor noise. Just the birds.
The apartment has a portable air conditioner in the bedroom on the second. The thick walls and shutters ensured the house stayed cool even though the temperatures reached the high 80s during our June stay. We slept with the windows open each night.
Barbara was a wonderful hostess and just a text away if we had a question. We were greeted with a nice welcome basket that included a bottle of wine, dry pasta and sauce, fresh fruit and a few other items. It was nice to be able to put together a quick meal after our long day of travel.
There are a number of charming little towns nearby that we loved visiting. Each had restaurant choices and some had spectacular views of the Tuscan hills. This property made for a great base for exploring the area, its wineries and hill cities.
This was our favorite portion of an extended trip through Italy. We appreciate the opportunity to stay in such a great place. And, thanks to Barbara for being so accommodating and helpful.

Fabulous Place to Stay
A warm welcome from Barbara when you arrive at this wonderful house. Every possible amenity you could possibly need. Just a wonderful place to stay. We shall return!!!
Wonderful, relaxing and serene... Great location!!
We had a wonderful experience staying at Casa Rossella in the Chiante region. A very charming villa with a very comfortable living space and kitchen. The drive through the vineyards and olive groves set the scene for a very enjoyable stay. Barbara was fantastic; introducing us to the villa, the region and interesting sites to explore. We loved being near the village of Castelnuovo Berardegna. We look forward to our return someday soon.
Amazing villa with stunning views
Stayed here for 3 nights- Barbara was such a kind hostess. Loved sitting in the garden, walking the fields and lying by the pool.
Amazing location with beautiful views
Everything was perfect and the property was unbelievable. Communication was excellent and the villa was very quaint. The private patio was very nice as well. We would definitely recommend this property.
A lovely Tuscan villa with all the extras!
We arrived at the villa after a long day of traveling. We had a bit of trouble finding it but, Barbara, the property manager met us in town so we could follow her to the villa. Much appreciated! Once inside, she explained everything and gave us lots of info for our stay. The villa itself was gorgeous! So sweetly decorated, with everything we could need. Barbara and Rossella left us with enough food and wine so we didn't have to do a thing our first night and morning there. San Gusme and Castelnuovo are 2 little towns nearby. Our only regret is that we did not discover the restaurants there sooner, since we would have spent more time in these 2 places and less time driving to the more well-known hill towns. Our only wish was that there wasn't a market/town within walking distance but, as noted earlier, Castelnuovo and San Gusme are a 10 and 5 minute drive respectively. We loved visiting the winery/olive oil place right down the dirt road from the villa. Overall, a wonderful experience, beautiful property (the pool and the grounds were spectacular too....pool long enough to swim laps in!), and very organized and gracious host and property manager.
The Arceno estate is ideally located to visit the most interesting Tuscan towns and cities. Medieval Siena, which is a designated world heritage site,, Arezzo with its rich cultural heritage, Cortona with its magnificent views and cultural festivals and Florence with its museums and spectacular Renaissance palaces and churches provide ample opportunity for the active holidaymaker. Visiting hilltop towns, such as S. Gimignano with its famous towers or Volterra, makes an easy day trip. Radda, Castellina and Greve in Chianti famed for their wines are close enough to have lunch or dinner. To the south iis the stunning Crete Senese where the famous Pecorino cheese comes from and the towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino home to the delicious Brunello wine. Several Spa-towns are nearby and offer apart from healing waters any treatments one can imagine. There is an abundance of activitities the visitor can pursue from wine tasting to cooking classes, riding, cycling and even ballooning.
