My husband and I were born and raised in Florida(my husband in DeLand). We spent 8 years lovingly restoring this1905 southern jewel. We enjoy the many activities and pedestrian lifestyle thriving downtown DeLand provides.
Chris & Rhonda purchased this house in 2001
We have many family and friends who live in Florida. We lived in this home for many years and retained it as our vacation home upon moving for a career opportunity. It is wonderful that we can still enjoy our DeLand roots, home and share it with others.
People ask what is my favorite room and I always say, 'the wrap around porch' : ) Sunset is my favorite time to have a beverage on the porch as the ocean breeze rolls inland and the moss changes different colors from the sun--- A nice beginning to the evening before walking downtown for dinner & entertainment. My children would argue it is the media room/guest suite(loft) on the 3rd floor.
We were in town for our daughter's wedding and needed a large space to accommodate a lot of people coming and going. The house worked great for our needs! Plenty of room. Never ran out of hot water. Heat (yep, we hit a cold spell!) and AC worked well to keep us comfortable. The only piece of advice I would give to anyone considering renting - don't plan on cooking for your large group. The kitchen is not set up well. Very limited pots and pans and not of good quality. Outdoor grill was desperately in need of cleaning. But - it just gave us an excuse to eat out! I still give it 5 stars despite the kitchen because everything else worked out so well for us and we would happily stay again.
Will recommend and stay here again. Great location, clean home, comfortable fits 6 people.
I rented this house and fourth of July 2016 ,The house is beautiful and very big.The owner of the house she was very friendly and helpful.I love the house and definitely I'm going to rent it again. The house is spacious and comfortable for a big family.
This was a great place to stay for our family while we visited my parents. Mom ended up in the hospital our entire stay and we were only 4 minutes away from them. There were plenty of beds and space to spread out and enjoy. My teenagers loved the third floor and quickly moved in to own the space! The owner was super easy to contact with a few questions I had and didn't seem bothered when I couldn't figure out the wifi password or door codes.
I rarely give five star reviews, and did hold back on this one. The 2nd floor shower had minimal water pressure and every time I showered the hot water ran out within five minutes. (Even when I was the only one that had showered) However, two of my kids said they never had that problem, so I don't know what happened there?!? Especially since I am the one who set their shower handles and got them started.
The inside floors seemed dirtier - even on day one - than they should have been. Went outside one morning to use the porch swing and front porch hadn't been swept in a while, and outdoor pillows were pretty filthy.
But everything else was clean and comfortable! Loved the beds, linens, supplies, historical renovations and location! Outdoor space was relaxing and nice. I loved the pond!
I would definately stay here again as long as I were guaranteed a hot shower with more pressure! And to be fair, I wasn't there long enough to try the clawfoot bath upstairs or the shower on the main floor. Maybe they were better.
The house was great! Clean and had everything we needed in the kitchen. The layout was nice downstairs. We didn't spend any time on the 3rd floor, but it had a lot of character. Also the sweeping porch and big front yard with a fence was a nice surprise! Loved sitting on the swing on the porch! The location was great for walking downtown for icecream after dinner. Highly recommend. Rhonda was great at communicating with me throughout the stay as needed.
We loved our stay in this home. It was comfortable and so close to downtown Deland. Rhonda was so accommodating and prompt to respond to any questions we had. We will hopefully be returning soon and renting from the same property. Highly recommended! Thanks again Rhonda and family for allowing us to feel right at home :)
