Portland Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

We offer an airy ground floor apartment, in the home where we live. Walk down the rock stair path through the gardens to your private entrance. The oversized windows bring the outdoors inside.

We live in a uniquely sited place that will soothe your spirit. Come to write, to explore, to read, to unwind.

Our home sits on the edge of Forest Park in NW Portland, which makes it feels as if you were miles and miles from no-where, and yet is 5 minutes by car from the night-life and shops of the Nob Hill area, and the city public transit system.

The apartment.... Walk into the great-room. It has an office working area and dining area at one end and a living-room area with gas fireplace and HD TV at the other. The couch converts to a second queen bed at night, if needed.

Go up the steps to the bedroom with queen sized bed. The bathroom is accessed through this bedroom. It has tub and shower, and the floor is heated in cold weather.

This apartment is self-catered. You walk up another short flight of steps to the kitchenette, with a 4 burner propane stove top, a microwave/convection oven, and an under counter refrigerator. The U-shaped kitchen has bamboo countertops.

The kitchenette also has a washer and dryer.

The house uses DSL for its internet, but only at a rate of 3 mbs. If you really need zippy Internet access, please bring your own AT&T or Verizon cellular Internet service.

The house uses a satellite for TV; a DVR makes recording shows possible, but it has no internet connection for gaming or on-demand movies.

There is one parking space available to you.

Housekeeping services can be arranged.

Keywords: One bedroom, furnished, private entrance, close to downtown, Peaceful, spacious, beautiful, restful.

About Margie Rikert

Goethe wrote, and I wholeheartedly believe: 'Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it.

Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.'

I thoroughly enjoy meeting people, and we have developed friends all over the world. A favorite place is The Netherlands where we once lived, and I dream of returning to Australia for an extended stay. I really enjoy ocean kayaking, rock-climbing, casual biking, and hiking. I am surprised at my 'addiction' to the iPad which I have been able to incorporate into many aspects of my life... working with elderly hospice patients, cooking gourmet foods at home, or reading National Geographic by the fire at night.

We strive for a smaller impact on our world with strong tenets of sustainability in our daily lives.

Why Margie Rikert chose Portland

This is apartment is part of our home.

Forest Park is a magnificent resource for residents and visitors alike. It’s future depends on the personal stewardship gained from appreciation of it’s magic; and that can only be developed by spending time within it… Listening, watching.

Guidebooks are around around for identification of native trees, flowers, birds, and animals… and conversations about invasive species can lead to deeper insight and possible action. The bee hives are a source of conversation (and honey).

The hosts are deeply involved in the stewardship of the forest, and reducing the impacts that the house and guests will have on the ecosystem. The home has solar panels for hot water and electrical generation. It is heated by an air-source heat pump. Foods and drinks served are sourced locally, supporting small businesses. Guest service incorporates environmentally responsible products for personal use and laundry, recycling, and conscious choice. 10% of profits are tithed in support of on-going maintenance and protection of Forest Park.

What makes this apartment unique

walking, birding, just being in a beautiful restful place. We are right on the edge of Forest Park... the 5000 acre wooded park in Portland.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The apartment worked very well for me. The DSL is a bit slow... But I set up my own hotspot. Margie and David reacted quickly when there was a problem. Very comfortable living arrangements, beautiful location. Great for afterwork runs.

Awesome in every way!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the total package...the grounds, the location, and the apartment itself. Margie and David put a lot of thought and effort into making sure everything was perfect for our experience. We were amazed at how immaculately clean the apartment was. The woods were magical and we walked to town several times..the best of both worlds. It was very private and quiet. We sat out by the fountain in the mornings to enjoy our coffee. We felt like it was our home, and we hope to come back every time we visit Portland. It was definitely a high point of our vacation. We also have to mention we loved seeing our favorite dog, Alice, every day.

Beautiful setting!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is spotless, beautifully equipped, spacious and very comfortable. Margie and David are great hosts, and will not let you get lost on all the walking paths in the park. They even provide a map of all the trails and give you tips on walking down into town.

We didn't have a car when we were there, and didn't mind the 40 min. hike down into town, but if you have any mobility problems, it will not be possible to get around without a vehicle. We were exhausted at the end of the day in Portland, and always cabbed it back up the hill in the evening. It would have been very difficult to climb that hill on bikes, as we had originally planned, but probably not impossible. It's very dark , though, and might be hard to navigate after the sun sets.

If you love nature you cannot help but love this property. Highly recommend it to everyone!

Spectacular place, beautiful land, wonderful hosts and convenient location -- PERFECT

  • 5 of 5

Our stay could not have been any better! I don't usually do reviews of anything, but just had to write. The apartment is beautiful, spacious, and set on gorgeous land right by Forest Park. Beautifully decorated and peaceful, but a very quick drive from everything. I will definitely go back, wouldn't consider staying anywhere else but there, it was heaven. Thanks so much Margie!

Owner's Response: You visited Oregon on a perfect week at the perfect time of year... September has such lovely weather! BUT, I have to be honest, its not always like that. However, that said, Oregon and this place have magic whatever is going on outdoors... Come. Stay. Here.

Cannot be beat!!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in mid-June...and our expectations were more than exceeded. First, Margie and David are great people...very warm and inviting. Not for one minute did we feel uncomfortable in their home. You can engage them as much as you like, or they will totally respect your privacy if that's more your thing. The property is truly magical...you are in the middle of the forest...and literally 5 minutes from great eats, shops, etc. The apartment has everything you need, and then some...everything is clean and working. In my opinion...if you're visiting Portland, you'd be crazy to stay in a hotel if this place is available.

This apartment is amazing. The owners renovated this gorgeous house themselves. David is a master carpenter, and the apartment is full of custom-made craftsman style built-in cabinets and furniture. All of the doors are beautiful wood in a cherry hue. I was very impressed. The owner had decorated the apartment for Christmas, which was very thoughtful, since we were bringing our children and arriving on Christmas day. The views from the windows were beautiful, and though it seems to be in the midst of wilderness, it is only minutes from downtown. Lovely trails lead off into the state park mere feet from the front of the property.
