Lovely little village and beautiful appartment
We had two wonderful weeks in Campilia Marittima. The village is very impressive with its narrow streets and all the hidden shops and little cafes and restaurants. Everyday we found something new, at least within the first week. The food was very tasty and the waiters and waitresses were always very friendly. The appartment was very cute, we felt really comfortable in it. The only thing I missed for some time (e.g. within the two rainy days) was a TV. And finding parking slots for the car sometimes really caused us trouble. David was veeery friendly to us, he explained us where to find the beautiful beaches and supported us a lot with any kind of information (we also found a lot of maps and so on in the appartment). The area around CM was inspiring. I would definetly visit again this beautiful place and stay in exactly the same appartment (we were two persons).
Thanks Raoul for your kind words and we are so happy that you liked the apartment and Campiglia. I hear what you're saying about having a TV, however, we decided not to install one so that people could get a real break and disconnect from all the nasty things going on all over the world. With regard to parking, it can be tricky during the peak August period but it normally creates an extra few minutes of a walk. Thanks once again for such a useful review! Looking forward to having you back.

We stayed at Casa Lisa for a week. This apartment was perfect for us as a couple. Campiglia Marittima is a beautiful medieval village and the apartment is on one of the delightful sloping streets just a couple of minutes walk from the main square. The apartment is small but very well-equipped, the owners have thought if everything. The view from the kitchen window, which many others have commented on, more than lived up to expectation. The apartment has just undergone a revamp and everything felt fresh and new. David showed us around and gave us lots if useful information. The village itself has plenty of great restaurants and shops. The beaches are lovely with the nearest just 15 minute drive away. I would definitely recommend both Campiglia and this apartment.
Many thanks Sarah and Ian. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay in Campiglia! Hope to see you again sometime in the future.

We arrived at Campiglia Station and were kindly met by Nicoletta who showed us around the apartment, informed us about the local area and recommended some local places to eat and drink. Although the photos on this website give an indication to the apartment, village and views, we were really blown away when we got there. The view is so wonderful no matter what time of day it is. The locals are all very friendly and life seems to move at such a different pace there. The property itself was well-maintained, very clean and cosy and was equipped with everything we needed for our stay. David and Nicoletta were available at the end of the phone/email should we have any questions and they were both more than happy to help.
We did not have a car during our week at Campiglia Marritima so we relied on public transport. We went to Donoratico, San Vincenzo, Piombino, Venturina and the beach at Mortelliccio all by bus. The bus drivers were generally very helpful! It would be a good idea to pick up a copy of the bus timetable from the train station or newsagents when you first arrive. We also got around on foot, which you really have to do to an extent in the village of Campiglia Marittima because of the tiny cobbled streets. I must mention that if you are disabled or elderly and if walking uphill or any distance is difficult for you, this may not be the most suitable location. To get from the apartment to the bus stop is only a 5 minute walk but there is a fair bit of uphill and downhill walking between the two. We walked to the spa which is shown in the pictures, which took about 25 minutes, as well as a local vineyard which was approximately a 20 minute walk.
I would not hesitate to recommend this property to a friend. We certainly plan to return some day.
"Splendid Summer sojourn in Campiglia Marittima "
"Splendid Summer sojourn in Campiglia Marittima "
At first glance, Campiglia Marittima, hereafter referred to as CM, appears like just another romantic Tuscan hill-top town. However, on closer inspection, it quickly becomes clear that, with its significant architectural features including Pisan columns, stone arches, use of pink & white marvel in its quaint streets & squares, CM was indeed a very important Tuscan regional town. For interested parties, time spent walking the narrow streets & multiple squares is sure to delight. Furthermore, CM offers a fantastic base for anyone interested in exploring Southern, Central, & Western Tuscany. This was our 3rd. time holidaying in CM and staying at this apartment. As a family of 3, with an 11 year-old, the apartment suited our needs perfectly. As with our previous visits, the apartment was spotlessly clean, and complete with all necessary appliances; it also comes with its own picture-postcard view of the island of Elba, from the kitchen window. What a way to start the day - breakfasting on perfectly ripe fruit, fresh crusty bread, and a pot of Barry's tea - with Elba in the distance! Just has to be experienced!! Access to a car, while desirable, is not essential. Travelling by car, rail, and ship, we visited local beaches, the thermal spa in Venturina, Pisa, Carrara, Luca, Vinci, Voltera, Florence, Sienna, & Elba. There is so much to see, do, & appreciate throughout the region, and we haven't mentioned the food & wine. Fantastic! If you are looking for a very enjoyable, relaxing, memory-filled holiday, we can certainly recommend CM, and should you decide to stay we highly recommend this apartment. The apartment will not disappoint. 3 minutes walk to the main square in CM with its bars, restaurants, gelateria (yum), & shops, and free music & entertainment. Children welcome everywhere. 2 minutes walk to car parking, and also recycling & refuse bins. Finally, with Dave's & Nicoletta's help, advice, & recommendations we have, once more, maximised our family vacation-time in this heavenly part of Tuscany. We can't wait to return next year.
Fab holiday location
The apartment lived up completely to the description on the website and was actually larger than we expected. The view from the apartment window was absolutely stunning and the website photo really IS what you wake up to every morning! One additional thing that also really blew us away were the beautiful swallows who glide so skilfully above the town. The apartment was very clean and well maintained and we really felt that we were living the Italian life in this small medieval town amongst the locals.
The owners, David and Nicoletta made us feel very welcome and the tourist information supplied in the apartment was extremely helpful, together with a great selection of guide books of the area.
The town of Campiglia Marittima has a small selection of restaurants and bars if you fancy staying close to the apartment in the evening. However, we would also recommend the towns of Piombino and San Vincenzo with the marina for some promenading and good eating.
The two closest beaches also have beautiful golden sand but the sea can get a bit rough sometimes when the wind picks up so don't expect calm seas if you have small children. We loved the waves though!
Only downside is that you won't have enough time in your 1/2 week holiday to get to see enough of this fabulous part of Italy and the apartment really is an ideal location to get around. We would definitely recommend a car. We also caught the ferry over to Elba during our stay as the port of is a 15 minute drive away and had a two night stay on this beautiful island.
We would definitely recommend this property and hope to return ourselves as soon as we can. Happy holiday!
This is a truly unique and unexplored corner of Tuscany dominated by the fascinating medieval village of Campiglia Marittima with its beautiful cobblestone streets, stone facades and romantic arches. The town has all amenities as well as 6 restaurants/pizzerias and 4 cafes.
Some of Tuscany's best beaches are just a 10 minute drive away with the hot springs (36°C) of Calidario just 5 minutes by car. There are also a number of natural Parks nearby with the Island of Elba just a short ferry trip from Piombino.
The town is an ideal base for simply relaxing, trips to beaches, wine tasting, or even occasional excursions such as:
- Siena in 1hr 30min
- Florence in 2 hrs
- Lucca in 1 hr 10min
- San Gimignano in 1 hr 20 min
- Volterra in 1hour.
