Comfortable, quiet & pleasant - BUT with a WARNING (see below)

  • 4 of 5

Positives: The condo was very lovely and well decorated with very comfortable furnishings. The beds are both king size & extremely comfortable. It was extremely quiet, and the kitchen is quite well "stocked". There is a very beautiful view of the grounds in the foreground & the mountains in the background. There was a sink in both of the bedrooms in addition to the ones in the bathrooms (which each had Jacuzzi tubs). The internet was fairly good, but a bit slow (Satellite). There was a stacked clothes washer & dryer (we did not use them).

Negatives: The exit off the Blue Ridge Parkway is not well marked. The cellphone service is essentially non-existent. The lighting in the condo is sub-optimal especially on the "living room" side. There was only one very small closet in only one of the bedrooms. There are NO alarm clocks in the bedrooms - which could be a problem if you were counting on having one (could be provided for under $10). The "development" apparently "failed", so some of the "community facilities" are not well maintained. (many of units "For Sale"). No "special" coffee was provided as advertised. There is no soap for the showers.

WARNING: When we arrived at about 10:00 pm, we tried the code that was provided to us. Absolutely nothing happened. Pushing the "lock" button generated a locking sound, but the code did not work. We had to go up the Parkway a ways to try to find cell service, but found that the contact phone number we were given was "out of service". We then went back & found a "Help number" posted at the entrance. When we called that number, and they informed us that they did not "handle" our condo. Ultimately, a number of neighbors came over to try to help/investigate. They confirmed that the entrance code we had been given was nonfunctional. Fortunately, we had copies of our rental agreement with us. An "anonymous" individual with "certain skills" was able to get us in. After we got in, we discovered the entrance code had NOT been programmed in. After WE programmed the lock correctly, it worked fine for the rest of the visit. "Somebody" forgot to set the code! Had we not gotten in, we would have been "out in the middle of nowhere" in the middle of the night without a place to stay. All this was very stressful & wasted about 2 hours late at night. BOTTOM LINE: Before you rent this condo, make sure you have a valid contact number (test it!!) & make sure the code has been properly set!! {Note other reviews}

Had a nice stay, despite problems getting in.

  • 3 of 5

This is a really nice villa. We had a good stay and would consider it again.

We were given the wrong entry code by VRBO, which resulted in a lot of problems as there is no cell service. Sending the correct code about the time we were due to check in is really no help, as there is no internet unless you are inside.

The lodge, restaurant and pool are closed, so don't count on those, but for a weekend on the Parkway, it is very nice.

Clean unit and kitchen well appointed.

  • 3 of 5

There was an issue with the keyless entry so make sure you network prior to arrival. Owner did not respond. Just happened upon the cleaning lady and she got me in. Think it would have been a bad situation had she not been around.

Beautiful Cozy Getaway Near Blue Ridge Parkway

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay. The location was beautiful, and the accommodations were clean and nice. We only stayed overnight and left early the next morning, so we didn't take advantage of much more than the bedroom, but it was comfortable. The keypad on the door wouldn't work, so we had to contact the owner to get in. Her contact info on VRBO wasn't correct, so we had to contact VRBO to get in touch with her. But once we did, she was very nice and was very helpful. We couldn't get the internet to work, but since we didn't stay long, it wasn't a big deal. This is a very nice place to get away! I would recommend it.
