Lovely 4 bedroom renovated stone farmhouse in an idyllic rural setting in the hills of northern Portugal, within easy reach of Porto airport, which is 90 kms away. A place to get away from it all and completely unwind, being as lazy or as active as you want to be. Ideal for those who love the countryside, authentic areas and the great outdoors - hills and forests on your doorstep, 20 minutes to the scenic river Minho on the border with Spain, and 25 minutes to beautiful blue-flag, white-sand beaches. Large secluded garden on terraces with pool, barbecue area and magnificent views of the valley and surrounding hills. Spacious and fully-equipped open-plan kitchen/living room. . Central-heating in all rooms, plus two log fireplaces. Sleeps 9, ideal for families and groups. Table football, rowing machine and exercise bicycle in the old winery where there is also a bar and extra dish washer, this room leads out onto BBQ area with outside dining table.Large selection of books(mainly in English)
I live 5 mins walk down the lane.I have now been in Portugal for 22 years, previously I lived in Brasil and USA.My husband worked for Taylors/Fonseca port wine company until he died in 2010.
I love this beautiful area, laid back, little traffic, lots of places to explore, beautiful beaches, both in Portugal and Spain and very few tourists.
Adria Corrie(owner) purchased this villa in 2003
Casa das Oliveiras is very spacious, plenty of room both inside and outside in the terraced garden. The view from the house towards the Arga hills is spectacular. The kitchen is very well equiped, and guests have enjoyed using the BBQ and experimenting with the old bread oven in the garden.
Originally this was two small farmhouses which we made into one.It was a ruin covered in ivy when we bought it and restored it in order to rent out for families to come on holiday.
The unique benifits are that it is big enough for two families to share, the pool is big and it is not shared and I live just down the lane, nearby to give any help or advice if needed.
We had a great holiday in this lovely villa in a stunning location.
The villa was spotless and well presented on our arrival. We also found the villa to be very well equipped, and had everything that we needed. The owners had provided us with some bread, cheese and ham etc that was very welcome after our journey. There were 6 adults in our group and there was ample room for us all! All the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and well furnished. The communal areas were able to easily accommodate us, with plenty of chairs and table space. The provision of a dishwasher, and a washing machine, were really useful.
The villa is easily accessible from Porto via the motorway and took us approximately 2hrs from collecting our car at the airport to arriving at the villa (which was easily found using the owners directions). After leaving the motorway, ensure to take care on the roads leading to the villa - it's a winding road with lovely views, but not to be done in a hurry! A car is essential in this area, though it is possible to walk down the hill to Covas where there are shops selling essentials and a couple of cafes. The nearest supermarket is a short car ride away.
We spent much of our week exploring the local region - the wonderful national park and the beaches along the coast. The villa was in a quiet setting, which was ideal for relaxing with a drink and a good book by the pool. The owners have an amazing library of English language books in the villa so we weren't short of things to read! We had several BBQs at the villa throughout our stay, but we also had some good meals out and didn't find the region to be expensive. I'm sure this won't be the last time that we visit this lovely place.
A very spacious and well equipped house, with a welcoming atmosphere which makes it easy to feel at home. Here you can stay and just relax enjoying the great view over the Covas valley from the terrace, one of the balconies or the pool. The pool is big enough for your daily swim. The house is also perfect as base for day-trips to many interesting places in northern Portugal and Galicia. Sandy beaches by the sea are only 30-45 minutes' drive away. We appreciated the genuine rural environment and all the friendly people. Fresh bread available all day in Fontela café/shop/restaurant which also serves delicious food. House, garden and pool are well kept. Host lives nearby, which feels good in case any problem would arise (which did not). We recommend this place to anyone who wants to "get away from it all" and still have all services "around the corner".
Do Santiago de Compostela około 1,5 godziny. Gorąco polecam.
The Villa is AMAZING, the views from the villa are also AMAZING of the Coura Valley.
The villa is situated near the top of the Lugar de Serra road, Covas. The four bedrooms are very good sizes and well furnished, the bathrooms, all three of them are great to have when you all want a shower at the same time. There is also a shower room near the pool and a downstairs toilet. The facilities in general are extremely good with no expense spared to provide everything you need from shopping bags to tissues, cling film and a vast quantity of towels for the bathrooms and also pool towels, heaps of them. The games room/ gym are well equipped and great for children and adults alike. The area provides some beautiful country side to run in as well, although the hills are steep, but challenging to any runners who want to keep up their running programme. I loved it.
The villa has a homely and welcoming feel to it and has some lovely Portuguese plaques and pictures. I would certainly very much recommend this villa to any family or group of friends wanting to switch off and have a really relaxing holiday in the Minho area of North Portugal. The Corries are extremely helpful to any needs you may have and very hospitable.
Wonderful Villa made for a wonderful holiday for 2 families, 4 kids! Everything said above is true. A very relaxing holiday, and the owner's really made us feel like part of the family with recommendations for site seeing, which port to buy, and even being a tour guide (thanks Alex). Hope the kids didn't wear you out!
Great set up for kids- lock for the pool fence so we can close it down to the young ones so we adults could sleep late....
Stunning views and so close to Spain and kid friendly beaches. Wish we could have stayed longer. Maybe next year....
We are the 5th to review and we second all that was said before. We have spent a week during August 2011: two families with a total of 4 adults and 4 kids; 6,7 and 8 years old. House was plenty big and comfortable for our group.
We are lucky enough to spend over 12 weeks every year on vacation in Europe and the US, always renting houses for our family. This is definitely one of those properties that as you walk in you immediately realize the photos and description on the internet DO NOT do it justice - it is MUCH better.
The only real problem is that once you settle in, next to the swimming pool, you no longer feel like leaving to explore the area....
Local mini-supermarket, bar, restaurants, bank machine, post office within a 5 minutes drive. Large supermarkets, banks and good choice of local restaurants within 25 minutes drive, in both Portugal and Spain. 20 minutes drive to the scenic river Minho on the border with Spain. 25 minutes drive to river Lima. 25 minutes drive to Foz do Minho and Moledo beaches. 40 minutes drive to Baiona and the Galician 'Rias Baixas' indented coastline. Ponte de Lima 18 hole golf course within 30 minutes drive. 1 hours drive to Porto airport. 40 minutes drive to Vigo airport. 90 minutes drive to Santiago de Compostela airport. Hire car essential.
Lovely walking in the local Arga Hills, where wild ponies roam, or further afield the beautiful Geres/Peneda National Park.
Golf: Golf course at Ponte de Lima, 25kms away
