VERY close to Akaka falls, delicious bakery around the corner, beautiful setting. All new and well cared for. Kitchenette small but adequate for simple meal prep. No oven or stove, but outdoor covered grill available.

It was very quiet, beautiful and clean...we truly felt that we were away from the hustle and bustle!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay there. I had messed up our dates and Ronnie was so helpful in getting that straightened out. There were little signs just where you needed them explaining thing like how long to wait for hot water, how the hot tub worked etc...those were very helpful. It worked perfectly for what we needed.

lovely site. amenities essentially as advertised. perfect place to relax.

  • 4 of 5

We do have some minor suggestions. Ad should be clear that there is no cooktop of any kind; just microwave and outdoor grill. Should also warn guests arriving late that NOTHING in the immediate vicinity will be open. We arrived at 8:00 pm and had to drive back to Hilo for groceries; would have saved 30 miles of driving had we known that in advance. Sliding barn door dividers look quaint but any attempt to use them would destroy the bamboo flooring: just put I'm heavy curtains. And SOME sort of table inside for meals would be handy. We ate microwaved lasagna off our laps sitting on the sofa.....a potential recipe for disaster. To be clear, none of these points ruined our stay but we were only here for two days. Had we planned a longer stay, shared with a second couple or had some inclement weather they would have been more significant irritants

Lovely Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We found this vacation rental lovely, clean and very spacious. Location was good. The only negative was the kitchenette. I have many food allergies and therefore, we planned to cook most of our meals. I do not feel the owner misrepresented the rental in any way, however, the kitchenette area was so small it made cooking and cleaning difficult.

Owner's Response: Im so glad you enjoyed your stay. As I have said many times before the County of Hawaii does not allow full kitchens in the vacation rentals. With all the fresh fruits and vegetables and seafood it is super easy to make a quick meal using the grill, or as many guest just get take out or dine out at one of the many great local restraunts. In the future we have plans to have a very nice outdoor kitchen for our guests.

Charming bungalow, perfect for two.

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here with my husband for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Any longer though and I would have preferred a full kitchen, but this worked out just fine for us, as we enjoyed eating out at night. It was very clean upon entering, but because it was all closed and locked up, it was very hot and stuffy. We opened the windows and turned on the fans, which cooled it down well enough. I'm not used to the humidity, so it took some getting used to.

The house is small, but perfect for two people and for a short stay. Another review mentioned they thought it was more like a studio, and I would have to agree. Even with the wall dividers shut, it wouldn't be very private.

I enjoyed a fabulous afternoon, with a gentle breeze on the lanai while reading a good book, it was picture perfect. Ronnie texted me to make sure we made it inside okay and to make sure things were clean. She also texted me the next day to make sure we were enjoying our stay. I appreciated the attention. I really liked how close we were to all of the shops and found the town to be very charming.

Evenings were pleasantly cool, private and quiet (with the exception of the birds and frogs, which we enjoyed). The bathrooms were very nice, but it did take a long time for the water to heat up enough to be slightly warmer than cold. Since it was hot and humid outside though, I didn't mind.

I would recommend this place and would consider staying here again.

Owner's Response: Mahalo for your kind review. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. One of the things we love too is all the cute little shops and places to eat just in a short couple minutes walk! Regarding the hot water in the shower, we have an on demand hot water tank so perhaps the propane was getting low and that's why it wasn't heating up quickly. We have changed the tank so there should not be any further issues with that. We would love to have you as a guest again in the future.

Better than advertised! Very clean, comfortable, relaxing. Great place!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my husband for three nights and we loved this place. We spent our days out-and-about exploring and this was the perfect place to come home to each evening.

The property is located on a nice quiet private street in Honomu. We enjoyed walking a very short distance to the local coffee shop and bakery each morning. We found Honomu to be a good centrally located place to stay for exploring the Hilo side of the island. We hiked the Waipio to Waimanu Valley (and back) to the north on one of our days here (AMAZING!!!) and on another day, we snorkeled the Kapoho tidepools and visited Ahalanui geo-thermal pool to the south and also hit the more touristy sites like Rainbow Falls, Boiling Pots, the Botanical Garden, Onomea trail, and Akaka Falls. Hilo also isn't too far away from Honomu and we enjoyed getting take-out from Sombat's Thai Restaurant and eating it on the Lanai, which is so pleasant. Suprisingly, it wasn't buggy at all. We had no issue with the furniture being loosely tacked down. At the table, there are two chairs. I imagine if there were more people staying here and everyone wanted to sit around the table at the same time this might be an issue, but there is also plenty of outdoor couch/chair seating space around a small coffee-table for a larger group of people.

The kitchenette was more than adequate for our purposes --no complaints here. We used the dishes, fridge and freezer (for ice cream!) and had no issues.

The bathrooms were clean. The bathrobes provided were a nice touch. The double-headed showers were great too.

The bed was very comfortable. There is absolutely no need for air conditioning here (and we're from Alaska!) as there was a nice cross breeze through screened windows and there are two ceiling fans. There is another floor-based fan provided that we found in the closet on our last day, but we didn't need it anyway.

Having a hot tub was awesome. It is for shared use with the other units on the property (I'm not sure how many there are - maybe 1 or 2?), but we did not see any one else using the hot tub while we were here. The stars are amazing!

We ended up communicating with the property owner, Ronni, about a small issue with the hot tub that has since been resolved. She responded very quickly. We found her to be very honest and fair. No problems or complaints here. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thanks Ronni!
