Difficult to relax and enjoy a 21st Century family holiday.
Our original plan was to fully use the apartment, but we swiftly realised that this would not be possible. The internet is (was) extremely poor; it felt that we were sharing it with the rest of the residency. It should either be updated or removed from any advertising (this is 2018). Also there was NO Sky TV. The description states"The apartment boasts Sky Satellite (Sky viewing card needed for some programs) 42' Plasma TV that pauses and records all programs" not true. The kitchen was found in a not so clean condition; the oven was dirty - aluminium foil was used to cover extremely dirty shelves. The kitchen cupboards were greasy and dirty. We were comically surprised to see that 1cm of toilet paper was left for us in both bathrooms. On to the quality of the beds: the beds were hard, and the pillows seemed to be older than my adult boys. Sadly, the whole apartment seemed to be dated, unloved and not a place that is suitable for a relaxing modern family. The pool and gardens are immaculate! However, the rules and regulations are far too strict - the natives are not friendly - it felt more like a retirement village.
So now the positives, things we also thought mentioning
1. Balcony was a great place to "quietly" read in the morning.
2. AC very good
3. Water pressure excellent
4. Very kind neighbour helped us when we arrived
5. Restaurant Villa Linda is great and needs to be visited, great food - too good to be empty on a Friday.
6. Benahavis is worth a visit, if you fancy a go at canyoning.
In summary, the apartment could be a great place, but needs modernising, cleaned properly, welcome pack needs to be given more thought and a brief chat with the residency "committee" to allow some time for fun during the day would improve things greatly. Sorry to be brutally honest, but we regularly rent cottages, villas and apartments and felt that this villa just did not cut the mustard.
Facilities were great and people were really friendly!!
Property was modern and clean
Beds could have been alittle more comfortable. Disappointing we couldn't use our lido in the pool!
Just back from a weeks stay!
I've stayed on this complex probably 5-6 times now and it's very high end. The décor and condition of the complex is very nice, and the surrounding grounds very well maintained. This was the first time staying at Jason's apartment and the booking process easy, as were collecting the keys. The quality of the apartment is very good with all the appliances and equipment needed. The balcony is well equipped with sofas and dining chairs/table. In terms of locality there is a bus stop outside the complex to grab a lift up to Mijas village for a few drinks and some great food if you want to leave the car behind, and beaches are 10 mins away. The village is very old Spain, and a breath of fresh air. Would highly recommend to anyone, both couples or families looking for a great break, in a great area, staying in a nice resort. Will be back soon. Cheers Matt
Thank you for your review Matt, I am pleased you enjoyed your stay.
Great accommodation in a lovely location
Have stayed at Finca San Antonio many times. Never been disappointed. Very well appointed apartments in lovely grounds with two pools
Nice accommodation ideal for those wanting quiet holiday
The location is half way up the hill to Mijhas so a car is essential. Location I would describe as quiet so if you are wanting everything on your doorstep this is not the place for you Jason the owner was not very good at communicating with responses to questions. The accommodation was lovely apart from the beds were hard and I wouldn't call them comfortable. Nice balcony. Kitchen could have been better equipped it was sufficient but on a number of ocassions I found that I needed various items. E.g the knives were blunt, plates were chipped , the property needed some maintenance work e.g the door frame around the kitchen door frame was coming away. There was a problem with the key fob and the electric gates to the underground car park admittedly we did report then towards end of week they did get it working. The complex is residential and this accommodation is definitely not for families with young children there are too many rules around the pool don't do this and that it needed adding on don't have any fun! Having said that it did suit our needs we travelled with my elderly mother in a wheelchair and accessing the pool and the accommodation was easy. If you want a quiet time away from it all this is the place for you. Fuengirola is a 10 minute drive away. There is a lidl and Aldi not far away.
Overall reasonable accommodation what I would expect.
Great apartment, but a few issues & problems...
The size of the flat is great with a decently large bedroom & superb living space. The complex of Finca San Antonio is, overall, excellent & top quality. What let flat 38 down to us was a very hard bed & no sunbeds or sunbathing area.. more later.... plus there was no "arrival information pack" which was pretty poor: fortunately, we know the area like the back of our hand, but people unfamiliar with the area may struggle?
Without doubt, we will return to this complex and, indeed, have requested another apartment here for 10 days time for another couple of weeks here.
BUT.....
There were a few annoyances! Regrettably, the cleaner hadn't been so it was very dirty when we arrived. Communication with the owner was somewhat haphazard, but he did end up sending us a couple of bottles of wine after the cleaner didn't materialise a second time. (PS We cleaned it!!). The Sky TV didn't work, but a friend gave us his box & card so we were OK.
There are NO SUNBEDS with this flat which is infuriating to us Brits as we love lying on them for most of the day by the pool..... but you cannot leave sunbeds (if you have them!) next to the pool unless you're actually there - meaning you would have to carry beds to & from your apartment - as leaving them is strictly forbidden on this complex. There is a "storage" room but it is full & you are politely asked not to use other people's sunbeds. In the 12 days we were there, we only went in the pool once - we went elsewhere.... not good!
We had a lovely holiday using this as a base. We intend returning to the area in 10 days time and would have stayed here again but it is booked out - but we have requested another apartment on this same complex so that speaks volumes.
Map
There are bus stops directly outside Finca San Antonio for easy access to Mijas village or Fuengirola every 15 mins.
Mijas is one of the most beautiful Spanish villages on the Costa del Sol, some argue the best. The apartments location is peaceful and within walking distance of Mijas village. The views are breathtaking from the apartment on a clear day the mountains of Morocco can be seen. Listed below are just a few of the local shops very close to Mijas/Fuengirola: El Corte Ingles, Hipercor, EuroMarket, Lidl. Restaurants are too numerous to name but for a special occasions the Valpariso is less than 1km from the complex. Mijas is also very close to many attractions such as Tivoli World (Benalmadena), 2 AquaParks (Fuengirola and Torremolinos).
Ski: In the winter periods it is possible to travel to Sierra Nevade to try your hand at skiing.
