Wow. I stumbled across this place relatively late in my planning for a little getaway for my daughters and partner.. it sounded lovely, but really... at this late in the season, why was it available?! We lucked out.. This cottage is lovely. Becci is a gracious host, friendly, helpful and ensuring all was what was expected. We appreciated not only the full kitchen but also her supplying those items that are a pain to pack but don't want to buy a whole new bag of sugar, or tea, or coffee, or spices, or oil.. Freshly made scones were waiting for us, as were fresh flowers from her amazing gardens.. Always friendly and enjoyed talking about her property, the nursery and and answering questions about various plants, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Wandering the property in awe, and finding little hidden gems throughout.. sigh.. if only we could stay another night. But.. we will be back. thank you Becci!
What a beautiful, tranquil spot of heaven. Becci has created a gorgeous garden and a quiet, peaceful and private cottage to share with guests. Becci was a wonderful host, making sure we were comfortable and then giving us space. If you're looking for a quiet, serene, comfortable and lovely vacation rental, you've found it. You'll also be close to acres of forest and trails (through the private, locked door in the back fence), and great restaurants. We ate at the Spice Box, the Waverley Hotel, Rider Pizza, Salmon Point Marina, Gladstone Brewery/Guerrilla Pizza. Gladstone has the best pizza north of San Francisco. Pick up good sourdough bread at the Comox Bakery on Church Street. Be sure to visit Cathedral Grove and Cameron Lake...if you can tear yourself away from Becci's garden. It won't be easy!
Stone Tree Cottage and Gardens is everything in Canada that is truly beautiful. An astonishing and breathtaking slice of beauty surrounding and encompassing the Russell family and those fortunate enough to stay awhile in their cottage. Our Fall experience with them was a holiday dream filled with excitement and peace.
Keith and Becci Russell personify quality and style. It isn't very often that you come across a gem when searching in this human pan for gold. We discovered two & it was a pleasure to be in their company. Thoughtful, practical, kind, funny and informative. Their daily work ensures each guest is comfortable in their cottage and in their country. Stone Tree Cottage and Gardens provides an utterly ideal retreat for the naturalists nature lovers or simply someone needing to rejuvenate. It's also ideal for families, couples, singles and adventure seekers as it's close proximity to the surrounding valley and island is fantastic. Everything is within walking distance yet a feeling of distance, time and seclusion envelopes you as you enter through the handcrafted garden doors. The gardens are idyllic and will make your heart sing in appreciation of the beauty of your surrounds. The depth of colours and textures provide so much alluring beauty in every direction and Keith and Becci are on hand to answer any questions you may have about any subject, from botanical names of plants to wildlife spotting areas. Long time locals, this area is their playground and they can guide you off the beaten tracks and beyond, enriching your Canadian experience. If it's solitude you're seeking you won't see them as they are intuitive and respectful to those sharing their space. The cottage is perfectly placed and provides peace and security as well as comfort and care. Spacious, fresh and inviting.
Tucked in between the artsy, eclectic villages nestled at the feet of the majestic Beaufort Mountains and the busy bustle of Courtenay. Tucked in between clean sheets on a bed akin to a cloud. A home away from home.
If Canada and all the beauty of this country and it's people could be popped into an acre. This is it.
My husband and I have just returned from one of the most peaceful and relaxing vacations in a very long time. We stayed a week at Stone Tree Cottage, having been enticed there by the promise of a beautiful garden in a peaceful setting. We were not disappointed. Because of the 4 months drought, I had feared that the garden would be dry and brown. When we arrived and Becci opened the wooden doors from the courtyard into the garden what a delight to see this incredible creation of a one acre garden. The garden itself has so many treasures and surprises, we spent a lot of time there just drinking in the beauty and relaxing. Coming from Vancouver, the cottage, set in this stunning "mini Van Dusen Botanical Garden" provided a totally tranquil place for meditation and renewal. Birdsong, eagles overhead, the 'girls' clucking and muttering in their run next to the cottage, all added to the gentle buccolic atmosphere.
The cottage is nestled towards the back of the garden and the whole property is sheltered from the road and neighbours by tall conifers and closely planted hedges. The cottage is cosy and very comfortable, with excellent beds. You can see it has been lovingly maintained for the enjoyment of guests.
Becci and Keith are friendly and helpful hosts. Their little Yorkie, Teka, is adorable and really friendly. She never roams loose so no need for concern if you aren't a dog person. We enjoyed some very interesting conversations in the garden and learned useful tips both for gardening and for sightseeing in the Comox Valley area. Becci even loaned us a laptop when our tablet crashed. We enjoyed the "welcome basket" of breakfast starters including freshly baked muffins. Becci also kindly shared tomatoes freshly picked from her garden. They were delicious.
The Comox Valley area is truly a beautiful part of this province, with farmlands, mountains, ocean and gulf island vistas at every turn. If you come to this area be sure to visit Goose Spit and spend some time on the beach there no matter what time of year. A trip to Mt Washington is another must. In the winter it is a popular place for skiing and snowshoeing. In the summer months, and shoulder months Fri - Sun, you can ride the chair lifts up to the peak at over 5000 ft. Once up there, hike some of the trails and enjoy absolutely stunning vistas in every direction.
Thank you Becci and Keith for providing us with an absolute dream home for a wonderful vacation. We plan to return.
I have stayed in many VRBO rentals for years, but this cottage was far above what I have experienced in many ways! The location is perfectly situated---close to town, but set back from the road and very, very quiet and peaceful. To experience the gardens for what they really are, you must stay there! Because the pictures don't do it justice at all! This is a miniature Butchart Gardens for sure :) The owners used to have a nursery, and definitely know what they are doing with gardening. Everywhere you look, there is beauty, and even along the path that leads back to the cabin there is wonder as flowers abound and the air was filled with the sweet smell of honeysuckle! There are many varieties of conifers as well as other trees and beautiful vegetables growing. The accommodations in the cabin are modest, but Becci excels at customer service and was by far the most helpful and accommodating hostess I have ever had traveling! If there was a concern, she was on it immediately. For example, she asked how I had slept the first night, and I answered that I slept pretty good, but I was getting used to the bed. That night when I returned to the cabin, there was a memory foam mattress topper on my bed!! I had not even hinted for one at all, but Becci was always a "step ahead" and took care of it that day. She even made me vegan muffins from scratch, which she had not attempted to do before, and they were not only made from love, but very yummy!! She had soy milk available in the frig as well. We loved staying at the cottage so much, we stopped on our way back down to Victoria and stayed one more night. It was very hard to leave this beautiful and precious "jewel" , and I would go out of my way at any time in the future to return to Stone Tree Cottage!! Thank you Becci, once again, for everything!!!! You are truly an amazing woman, and your joy for life and your job shine like the stars and is so contagious!!
My husband and I, along with my sister and her husband , from Saskatchewan were fortunate enough to stay due to a cancellation. We felt so lucky as we weren't looking forward to hoteling it! We stayed for 2 nights while attending the VI MusicFest last week-end. Wish we could've stayed longer to explore the woodland trails as it was such a tranquil setting. The cottage was very clean ,comfortable and well appointed. Our hosts very engaging and inspirational garden enthusiasts. Thanks again Becci and Keith
